Who likes Old Vintage Trucks ?

Recommended Posts

I've always like vintage automobiles ( that will never change ), but a few years ago, I got bitten by the truck bug. I have friends that are into the 60's muscle cars but now are into 60's and 70's pick up trucks - original / restored.   I've always enjoy taking one of my cars to a show, but the few times that I have taken the truck, I've actually enjoyed it more since I can park the truck and walk around and enjoy the show. My cars on the other hand, I would not feel comfortable leaving them unattended.

So, how many members here have vintage trucks ?

Steve

I have always been an old truck fan, especially Fords and have owned many; '57 big back window, '60 F250 4x4, '42, '53, '68, '70, '73 and '79. My latest is this '51 F-1. My Wife likes old cars but she LOVES old pickups!

I had a 49 F3 Ford I rebuilt. The cab was too small to feel safe once I got the braces on my legs so I sold it. It was a good truck I did a lot of work on. Loved the look of it and the bed I did in black walnut looked awesome.

My first vehicle was a truck, 65 f 100 that was a hand me down that started with my older sister, then brother then it was mine. I loved that thing, and working construction my daily driver was and still is a pick up truck. I have had my butt in the seat of some big ones as well and like them. On my 'down' time I like to drive around in a car though. I wouldnt mind having an old truck but there is a list of cars I would take first.  No offense meant, but my one pet peeve with a restored pickup is a shiny, varnished wood bed. They just werent like this. There was an article in Old Cars recently with a beautifully restored vehicle and they painted the bed wood black. I had to give kudos to them for the effort.

I bought this truck from a farmer who sold produce door-to-door from it thru WWII until 1949.  I have now owned it for over 50 years.

Gee Matt you've had it a while,  you should be driving it by now.

Of course after messing with my Plymouth , and that's a good clean original car, Seems like every little task fights you.  I ask myself,  does everyone have these type of problems or am I just completely incompetent or the lucky one to get things that aren't quite right?

Here is mine.

47 Hudson 48 Brockway and though it doesn't qualify,  I like my Superduty as well.  Hopefully I can keep it long enough to fit into the old truck category as well. The turbo diesel with a 6 speed manual is fun to drive.  It only gets summer use now on nice days,  so maybe.

This one isn't really a labor or service problem, it's a paperwork problem. Seller passed us a forged title and now we're trying to get a good one. I don't want to spend any more money on the thing in case I have to sue him and/or give it back.

I've always liked old trucks. Most have been posted on here before. The '46 1 ton (seen here on a teeter-totter was the first, a nice old survivor. The '21 came next,  purchased in 1972 and still in my fleet. I had the '31 Chevy fire engine for quite a number of years, winning many trophies. The '72 C20 ,bought as a modified stepside in 1984, is still my tow vehicle.

My '64 Dodge D300 - was a $500 Ebay purchase from Wyoming that my parents dragged back, I suspect along much of the same route that Billy just took, as they took in Mt Rushmore while they were out there.  I've posted it here before, the truck still earns it's keep as a shop truck hauling scrap, mulch, parts to swap local swap meets.  We've never really been able to figure out it's history but has A/C with a second air compressor under the hood to run air tools.  The shifter has two additional shifters attached to the shaft that you would think would be to run a PTO and for a two speed rear end but the truck has neither.

I don't own them but I do have the pleasure of maintaining and demonstrating them. I was on the fence whether to include or not but... the manufacturer referred to them at various times as "Tractor trucks" and "Auto tractor trucks" so I guess that's close enough.

I also like old trucks, I have had a few over the years. Currently have 3, a 1951 Crosley FarmOroad Pickup, 1947 Crosley Pickup and a 1950 Ford F1 stake bed.  The 51 and 50 tend to get put to work from time to time. The 47 is being worked on to make it road worthy, currently fighting with the mechanical brakes. Crosley didn't give up on mechanical brakes till  early 49. I may cover it to hydraulics.

FarmOroad setup with 16gal water tank to water 7 new trees that we planted this Spring. I also have a weed sprayer that I mount on the back to spray the Kudzu a couple of times a year.

Here is the 47, I plan to leave it cosmetically pretty much as it sits, but make it safe to drive. Historic plate is attached with magnets.

50 bring home a load of mulch and fancy stone for the flower beds this Spring.

Two of my favorite that I let go down the road was a 58 Willys FC170 and a 66 Ranchero, but there were a few others.
