Went out this afternoon for 1.5 hr run out to an antique store I have been wanting to visit.  Buick ran great and was nice to stretch her legs a bit after a long winters nap.

The Aqua Zephyr took home a "Best GM 1980 and Below" trophy at the 'Whole Vet Building Lives Together' car show hosted by I-95 Muscle Classic Car dealership in Hope Mills, NC. 

 It was an unexpected surprise!

Show here last weekend blew.  If it was pre 1955 it was one class. One award. If you were in the back they never walked back there to judge. (Evidently they didn't have cars 1956-1966)  But if it was 1967-1969 they had like 40 classes. Best brake shoes on a 1969 camaro, best seatbelts on a 1968 camaro, best dipstick on a 1967 camaro. If you had a 68-70 Charger you all took home co best of show with any GTO, Camaro, and Buick GN.   Pre war was pre-Gulf War. Yeah it was that bad.

The Buick Club of NSW had it's monthly run 60 miles north of Sydney on the Old Pacific Highway to a place called Harvest Garden, a small cafe with vintage goods and local produce where we had a great lunch under the trees on a sunny and warm Autumn day. When we arrived the car-park which is shared by a couple of other business was full of members from various car clubs including Ferrari, Ford and Holden clubs. The Old Pacific Highway is now a Mecca for car and bike and enthusiasts with it's sweeping corners, undulating terrain and fantastic views across the Hawkesbury River.  For a change, I didn't have a 2 hour drive to get to the start of the run, Harvest Garden being an hours leisurely drive without traffic along country roads from my home on the Central Coast with a round trip of 52 miles. Went back out to “The Bend” racetrack at Tailem Bend a few weeks back and just got these today. We were able to complete 5 circuits, three of the International Circuit and two of the GT Circuit at a reasonable pace.

 

Must admit that tight corners and a heavy car did not make for astonishing lap times or even a pole position given that we were led by a slow circulating Mustang pace car. Did give some throttle up the main straight as you would but very easy to let it go to your head and lose it on one of the fast approaching corners.

 

And having Jo alongside urging me to go faster, faster (I think that’s what she was yelling!) kept it reasonably safe !

 

Great to have had the experience!

Hey Rodney, I just noticed that the sequence of photos makes it look like you are going backwards (based on the grid numbers) 🙂

I had a chance to drive my '36 around Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney....of course my race gear was an original 1940's pin striped suit and fedora hat!

The organisers asked me to drive the ‘63 Riviera in reverse otherwise it would have disgraced all of the lap times of the V8 Supercars if it was running forwards 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

 

It was possibly the sequence of the photos sent to me. Was originally going to post just one, but thought some would think it was just parked! But it also might be different photos from different laps as we did five runs of the main straight. 
 

Eastern Creek in your ‘36 would have been a hoot! I’m not really a full on racing enthusiast, I like Bathurst and some of the other races but to get the chance to drive a racing circuit is a great buzz anytime. Will probably do it again, but next time in the Skylark.

Back in 2006 during the Post National Tour we all got a run around Bathurst - lot of fun in the 1950 Jetback.

 

Looking forward to the NSW 50th next year in Dubbo, just hoping Covid is under control.

Dubbo is coming along nicely. A bunch of us from the Buick club are heading up to Dubbo for a multi-club pre 1931 meet next week during which we will be looking at possible runs and other locations for next years Nationals.

Spent the afternoon removing the old top and windshield preparing for a new top.  My Model 31 speedster looks so good and after 4" of fresh snow last week we had to try the car out.  Wind in my hair and wearing sunglasses, all is good.

We did an unexpected midweek cruise with a small local group out to a popular surfing beach to catch the sunset, almost. Was a short drive out but still wary of the kangaroos that like to appear at that time. Four of us ended up back in town for a pub meal and some chat. Couple in the Jaguar “drophead coupe” braved the cool conditions with the top down but look well prepared with scarves and hats.

Today our local BCA Chapter toured with the local Cadillac Club chapter back to the dealership in Glenns Falls, NY.  This time we took a more direct route but still maximized back roads, which took us on roads through the Moreau Lake State Park.  Some roads I have never seen before. 

 

The day started out cool, and yes, it was downright COLD.  IT had dropped into the high 30's overnight and was just breaking into the low 40's when we assembled.   there was just around 20 cars altogether.  I took the Queen.

 

 

Then we attempted to cruise as one big group, which was not very successful.  Along the way I remembered @EmTeesuggestion of a picture when it turned the odometer, but I was almost 6 miles too late to celebrate. 

 

And the road traveled alongside the upper part of the Hudson  River.

 

 

But being in the group I could not stop for pictures.

 

 

With multiple turns, and tons of traffic signals, not to mention the increasing amount of traffic as the day brightened and warmed up, we inevitably got broken up into multiple groups.  But eventually we found the first stop,  a body shop in the area which has done work on many classics and restomods and hot rods.  Some customers brought their cars to show em off.  And many of us showed what we brought to them too.  It was a nice gathering.  I got a chance to park next to Pete's 53 with the Queen.

This one I believe was a '50, with it's original flat head straight 8, factory power steering, and a 3 speed stick, in a 2 dr hardtop to which was added aftermarket AC.  I just thought a 3 speed with power steering was exceptional.

 

After this we retired to the dealership which provided some generous box lunches without the boxes.

When I returned home I went back through the park again.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And I rolled into the driveway just over a hundred miles for the day. 

The Queen is such a pleasure to drive.  I felt like I could have just kept going.

Hi all, not sure if being a "passenger" counts as driving an old Buick but I wanted to share photos of a pre-1931 multi-club event I attended over the last 6 days in Australia in and around the western New South Wales town of Dubbo which is about 240 miles from Sydney. We had in excess of 125 cars attended from around Australia of all makes and models including about 10 Buicks. We went on a couple of country road runs including a morning tea break at a country school with only 12 students. I think we increased the town population by a factor of four!.  We also dropped in some new Buick Club of NSW members along the way which gave us a look at a 1917, 1918 and 1919 Buick along with a late teens V8 Cadillac among other cars. I jumped into a number of Buicks for a ride including 1925 and 1928 tourers, a 1929 Marquette tourer and a 1929 roadster.  Hope you enjoy the photos,  Cheers Paul

 This is no where near as fabulous as the previous posts, but last night I had the Electra out for about a 20 mile drive, no pics, latish and after dark.

I had been doing some maint. on my daughter's 2005 Chrysler Sebring convert for the last couple of days and first test drove it to make all was well to take it back to her tomorrow, then just wanted to do a cruise, so I hopped into the big girl for my cruise.

Last weekend took the Electra on a run with the local Chevrolet Club to Toodyay, about 80 miles from home. Beautiful weather.

The kids in our local school have a field trip each year to the Henry Ford museum in Detroit, but obviously last year and this year it was cancelled. So to give them something to do as the school year winds down, Melanie arranged a show of a few cars for the kids. Several hundred 4th, 5th, and 6th graders came one class at a time to see the cars we'd brought, as well as to visit with some of the ladies from the local historical society and some vets from the VFW. A living history lesson, so to speak. We took a 1931 Model A coupe, the 1941 Limited, the 1956 Chrysler wagon, a 1958 Dodge Power Wagon, the 1966 Mustang convertible, and a 2007 Shelby GT500 Super Snake convertible. We had little cards on each car that the kids would read aloud to their classmates as they moved from car to car while Melanie and I took questions about each car.

 

Without exception, the kids were interested, careful, respectful, and attentive. Some were obviously more into it than others, but they were all well behaved and engaged. We tried to keep it light and quick so we didn't lose their attention, but it was a huge success. We were there for about 6 hours--long enough for me to get a sunburn on my forehead despite the chilly temperatures.

It was the first outing this year for the Limited and while it started up instantly after being parked for 6 months, it was very grumpy during the drive. It was about 48 degrees out and it never really got above 150 degrees so it was coughing and sputtering the whole way to the school. Guess I have some more tweaking to do on the choke...
