Last week in Cyprus as winter approaches, tourists gone , be tucking up Ruby this week , so made the best of this week end , Saturday went to beach restaurant , but season finished , deserted , but still did a good omelette and fries.

Today in U.K. Is Remembrance Day , Here in Cyprus the brits held a memorial service for the 400 British soldiers killed here in 50s and 60s by EOKA Greek terrorists. Ruby wore a poppy .Had a nice lunch in Turkish restaurant, fresh sea bass , starters and wine only $25 total , but obviously a bit sombre , my dad was 8th army in North Africa WW2, looked after Sherman tanks which were American.

I wouldn't have expected winter to be a significantly different season in Cyprus. You learn something every day.

the cyprus season is mainly May till October,  when most of the tourists come, however some of the tourist hotels offer inclusive bargain deals during November and there are quite a few older folk from mostly European countries, but they rarely  swim or visit restaurants, mainly they are bused around the historical places of interest and dine in their hotels 

please excuse the term older folk, I'm 70 and don't feel to old , but quite a few of these folks are 10/15 years older, amazes me how they manage the  rigours mentality and physically of touring , hope I'm fit enough then. ?

Local charity wanted our car club to supply some "collectable cars" for a photo shoot, did not get much detail and it was poorly organized.

Santa was wearing purple sequin Santa suit (stolen from Elvis)  I did not take the camera but if we get some photos I will post.

Beautiful crisp sunny morning here.  Got a few miles in on the 56 going to Church and a few errands.  It really has been like a new car since replacing that power steering pump.

We took our 68 Riviera to the Carolina Collector Auto Fest car show in Raleigh, NC this past weekend. We took home the  "Best Buick" trophy. We went home pretty pleased with ourselves and the Riviera. (yes that 1970 Cuda convertible next to us is fully restored and is gorgeous!)

AACA - Texas Region meeting at a member's "car barn" in Decatur, TX today - about 60 miles from home. It was a beautiful clear and cool day, so the meeting was well attended and a number of members drove their club cars.

I was working in the garage yesterday, getting ready to one of the two new doors in the back. I had the Park Ave convertible out and around the block. Then parked it off to the side of the yard for the afternoon.

 

When I got in it put drive back into the garage I reached for the door pull. That big snowflake that hit the door panel seems about half the size of my hand today.

Spent a good amoutn of time on Thursday night putting this cool 1969 GS 400 back on its feet and took it for a drive on Friday when it was sunny and dry. What a great car! Smooth, powerful, fun to drive with the 4-speed and a burly 455 under the hood. We upgraded the wheels/tires (it had some goofball '80s Centerlines on it) and adjusted the ride height because it looked like it just came off the drag strip in 1981, and now it runs and drives like a Buick should. Also reinstalled the stock GS ram air air cleaner on the engine so it looks right. Smooth, comfortable, solid. Not exactly quiet with that 525 horsepower motor, but not crude in the least. I'm very pleased with the car in every way. Someone's going to get something AWESOME--if this was a Chevelle or a GTO, I could sell it for $60,000. Buicks are half price for reasons I don't understand.

 

 

Just another reminder why I love Buicks. They just feel different.

Fall is winding down here, and it actually snowed a little bit yesterday.  It's certainly been cold!  But today was another bright, crisp, sunny day and had a chance to get the 56 out for a breakfast run.  After reading the positive review on this place on Sunday, Ed and I decided to meet here:

 

 

When I pulled in I thought  I was lucky to get this spot in front for a picture.  But then I realized the place was closed on Tuesdays.   Just my luck!

 

So when Ed arrived we cruised over to another spot in town and got a nice parking spot right in front anyway.

 

 

It was great to get the car out !

I took my 73 Century Gran Sport Stage 1 4 speed to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont Il. last weekend. It was great to see so many beautiful Buick's. It was also great to see so many Buick friends and to see the BCA had a spot in the show to promote the club. Too many names to mention them all. This year was the largest amount of Buick's ever entered. My car won a Concours Award with 999 points (really 1000). The car also won the Platinum Pick Award Judges choice for best Buick in the show! I only drove it to the trailer and back tho.

That color is so rich!  Can't remember ever seeing it on any of the cousin brands?  But Congratulations on a beautiful Buick Philip!

Needed to go for a ride after work last night and used the excuse I needed to gas up the tank.

Today, I spent most of the day at a local car show. I am one of the two local AACA members who run this local show for a local non-profit organization. I drove my 1937 to the show. We also had two other local 1937 Buicks and a local 1935 Buick among the 124 cars at the show.

Took my '71 LeSabre to the garage for it's annual oil change this afternoon before I put it up for the winter. It needs some mechanical work, but hate to not get it serviced. Only drove it 64 miles since I put it up last year.

Drove my 67 LeSabre to the local Lowes today to get a new humidifier.  If you don't have a truck, you need a car with a real trunk to go to Lowes.

I drove George to Arlington, TX  Saturday. Chapter meeting.  Good food! Good time. Car performed well. Total drive was 281 miles. I had topped up the tank as I left town. At 250 miles, at a pit stop, topped him up again. Only held 13 gal!  That, friends, is 19 mpg!  Did not baby it. 65 and 70 most of the time. Miles and miles of metro driving. Makes me happy.

 

  This was the longest trip I have been on with the 263. Continues to please me with the performance. I can't say if this good or not, but felt good.  62 mph to 80 mph in just under 5 sec. I do not have to hesitate passing .

 Believe me when I say I'm not trying make anyone here look bad. 

It's just that with having been off the road for the past 12 years (yes not a typo) I had fun making up for lost time.

And by no way an excuse but funny how "Life just gets in the way sometimes".

 

I did keep track of things this year though and did put 1,070 miles on her. 

 

Will be doing a few minor things over the winter so next year should be smooth sailing.

I have just arrived back from a cruise around New Zealand. A highlight for me was visiting the Art Deco town of Napier on the east coast of the North Island. I am quite the fan of Art Deco architecture and carry a camera everywhere I go for work and overseas just in case something pops up. The other highlight was meeting up with local Neville Smith, whose 1936 Buick has featured on the cover of Buick Bugle in the past. I have driven my own '36 many miles but have never sat in the back seat of one so here are a few highlights of a very special day. Enjoy!!!  Picture 1: the '36 and '38 down by the water front. 2. We took a long drive amongst the ranches of this beautiful Texas Hill Country.  The car is parked at one of the low water crossing on the upper Guadalupe river. We ended up downriver a ways and had a steak for dinner. While we were sitting on the patio, the sun went down on the same river.

We've driven it several times in both directions, and it never ceases to amaze.

Like TX Hill Country, went to school at Kerville. Used to drive a 66 Opel Kadet station wagon back then but used to sneak into the Bolero Drive In in the trunk of a 64 Impala!

A visit to the exotic animals at the Y-O Ranch, and then driving our '37 Roadmaster (and another time with the '41 Caddy cabriolet), and then visiting Comfort, Medina's Apple Store for pie, and along the Medina River over the pass to Kerrville, spend some more time honoring Admiral Hyman Rickover at Fredericksburg's Museum of the Pacific War - shopping in Bandera - another drive along the South Fork of the Guadalupe River with the river on one side and the canyon walls on the other - you just want to drive back in the other direction for the sheer beauty of it.

 

By the way, the Texoma Region of VMCCA is doing a Spring Tour in that area April 5-7

 I haven't posted here for a while, as the only Buicks I've been driving is my '02 Rendezvous, and my wife's Envision (when she lets me), but last night I took the '41 Roadmaster to the gas station to fill it up, just the latest snowstorm hit Toronto. No salt on the roads yet, and the previous salt had been washed away. It still had only an eighth of a tank or so, from when I put the gas tank back in, and wanted to get it filled up before all the salt was dumped on the roads again.

 She was quite a grumpy lady for a few minutes, and for the first mile or so, which was nearly to the gas station anyway. Ran nice on the way home though. Now she has a full tank! No extra driving, just the 2-3 miles to and from.

 No pictures, but I kind of wish I'd taken one under the gas station lights with the snow covering the hood to show you folks.

Can't say I drove anywhere (besides, too much salt) but fired the Special up to move her out of the garage during our last snow fall (which you probably got too Keith) to have room to work on a broken down snowblower.

 

Left her running enough to heat everything up and ensure the battery was charged while I struggled with the snowblower.

Car.... just fine! Snowblower..... TOAST! 

 

Hmmmm, wonder if I should adapt a Buick V8 on my snowblower for some dependability??

We got snow a few days ago, so I drove my daughter's 2009 Enclave.  I figure that counts, as it was my "old Buick", since I bought it in 2012, then I bought a Chrysler 300S and gave it to my wife in 2016, and we just got her a 2017 Enclave and we gave the 09 to my daughter two months ago.  :>)

CJP, I just checked your profile (sorry)  and saw you're from Kent, as well. Small world! You must be on the lower end because I was tearing up the upper end from Benson to Petrovitsky during the initial snow fall in my 56 Buick. It was kind of nice, I was shielded by two car lengths on each side!

I started the GS and the Electra to warm them up and recharge the batteries. Sure do miss the nice weather!

35* and cloudy here, but dry, so took the '39 out for some errands.  Put about 18 miles on it and had it up to 50 mph a couple of times.  First time I have run the heater since probably March (after turning the shut-off valve back on).  Always nice to get out in this temperature and not have to worry about any possibility of overheating - ran at about 170-175* the entire trip.
