RansomEli
My wife is writing a news article about women (senior citizens) who work on their classic cars. Problem is, she can't think of a good, snappy title. The titles I offered were not suitable for print. They were very funny, however. Can anyone come up with a good title? Remember, this is a family website. If nothing else, this will keep y'alls amused for a few hours. Winner will get a free cup of coffee at Chickasha (must be present to win). lump
Hmmm...I like the challenge. I do a bit of copywriting as part of my work, so I couldn't resist contributing. LOL. Anyway, off the top of my head I came up with one idea, and added several variations on the theme: Classic Lovelies Renewing Lovely Classics Classic Lovelies Reviving Lovely Classics Classic Lovelies Repairing Lovely Classics Classic Lovelies Working on Lovely Classics Classic Lovelies Repairing and Renovating Lovely Classics Of course, you could replace the word "Lovelies" with "Ladies," in any of the above titles, if that better suits the tastes of the author. My grandmother did some of her own auto repairs, and my Mom enjoyed trying to help my dad. They would have enjoyed titles like the above. Good luck to your wife. I hope she will find the headline that suits her. Edited March 14, 2018 by lump (see edit history)
mhocker
The first thought that came to mind was "Gals in the Garage." I realize you need the connection with senior citizens, so you could modify it as needed. IE: Senior Gals in the Garage. My colleague also mentioned Garage Gals.

Classic Lovelies Renewing Lovely Classics Classic Lovelies Reviving Lovely Classics Well, Mr. Lump, I vote for the first two of yours-- the ones I have copied above. It's clear that you have done this before, because news stories should usually have headlines with verbs, connoting action. (That's not necessarily the case with feature stories.) And your wordplay is excellent!
Gunsmoke
"Wenches With Wrenches", or perhaps "Lipsticks and Dipsticks", or "The Lipstick Garage", or "Cars and Dolls". So many possibilities. It is a fine balance that needs to be drawn between being chauvinistic about a title, and simply feminizing a traditional (but not exclusively) masculine hobby. Most people would assume a mechanic was a male, while the term includes any gender. So assuming the objective is to make it clear this is an older woman focused old car article, catchy has to avoid stereotyping. "Cars and Dolls" is a nice play on words, reflecting the "Guys and Dolls" play from many years ago.

Gunsmoke
Perhaps a bit esoteric, but since you are a fan of the brand, maybe REO MADRE might work (Mother REO)! While RIO MADRE is a wine listing, nothing wrong with a bit of artistic license.

Maybe not... As I recall, REO Company sold their cars under the RIO name in Spanish-speaking countries because "REO" had an unfortunate connotation in Spanish slang, perhaps something to do with female genitalia. Gunsmoke
Agreed, we lovingly use the term "Old Car Guys", so why not use "Old Car Gals". The "Old" can refer to the car or the gal interchangeably, and if she's into OLDSmobile's, there can be a 3rd hidden meaning. Seems there are lots of good titles to pick from. The authors of the most recent Presidential Critique supposedly stuck for a catchy title, asked a granddaughter who suggested the only thing she knew "Russian Roulette". Bingo. I took this picture from a 1968 kaiser calendar. Yes the script is Sun Goddess .. I do not know all the history on the car.. If it was a Pro type car.. Someone on the west coast has it and is doing makeover on it.. Here is a KF post : The Sun Goddess was a "concept car" that KF had built to test the idea of a 2 door hardtop. It was built with a unique interior that featured power windows. Interestingly, when the car was semi-restored about 20 years ago, it was found that the rear windows were stationary and that motors had never been fitted to raise or lower them. The rear window itself was plexiglass and done in two pieces with a seam running down the middle. The car still exists and the last I knew was located on the west coast.
