Raise your hand if you drove at least one old Buick this weekend

Today, was a low mileage day. We enjoyed a guided tour of the historic Dekalb County Courthouse. We got to go into some private areas behind the scenes to see the details of the construction of the stained glass dome and other interesting features from1911, including the elevator equipment that is still in use from that time period. We rounded up most of the group for a group photo outside of the courthouse. After a lunch downtown, folks were free to take their own choices of tours of local museums, such as the ACD Museum and the NATMUS museum. This evening we enjoyed our closing banquet at the host hotel. Tomorrow some will head home and others will be staying for the upcoming AACA Auburn Meet, Swap Meet, and RM Auction.

325-mile round trip in the '70 stick shift Wildcat today for a N. Texas Chapter meeting in Hillsboro, an hour or so south of Dallas. Photo is taken in downtown Waxahachie. I'll also include a photo of the Ellis County Courthouse, which is one of the most beautiful courthouses in the state, right across the street from the first photo.

was a 45 mile day in the GS.  Gassed it up and when entering the data in my file, discovered the last time I put gas in it was back on October 17th 2017.

This week was the start of the local cruise nights, so I took the Reatta, for its' unveiling, so to speak. Also there was a Mazda Miata, that had been converted to a V8, by way of a shop in the US which changes the entire driveline, strengthens the chassis, so it will handle the power of the GM crate LS3 engine. They call themselves "Flying Miata"

I can get myself into enough trouble with the 165 HP the Reatta has, never mind 500+! Zowie!

Cruising the Pre War tour at the Gilmore Museum near Kalamazoo, Mi and one of the stops on our 75 mile drive was the home of civil war hero General Benjamin Pritchard.  I parked my 1913 Model 31 in front of the home and two civil war re-enactors.  Pre '42 car show on the grounds tomorrow with activities.  Lovely drive today, through rolling countryside and 75F with sun.  Life doesn't get much better does it?  Regards, Gary

These rainy days are really adding up.  I feel for those who need it and wish I could send it your way.  But regardless of the weather the 56 went to an annual show at the Saratoga Auto Museum.  This event normally draws several hundred cars.  It would be surprising if it broke 100 altogether today.

It's for all makes and models and there was a wide variety.  But here's some I thought were special:

John, in your first photo it looks like there's a tiny red Triumph or MG. I recently found out my uncle has a 70 Spitfire, they seem to be interesting little cars, though I don't think I would feel comfortable being as tall as a sixteen wheeler's trailer tires. :P

And rain? Pfft, come on guys. :P

Beutiful weather , this week end 36degrees , haven’t been far , just for a beer , but as Beemon was talking about small British cars thought I’d post picture of my visitor  , 1966 triumph herald (2 door 4 seater ), owner friend says it could fit in Ruby’s trunk

There's another view of it in the 4th photo.  It was an MGB Convertible.  Honestly, I felt like I went to a foreign car show today.

My first car I bought was an MGA, 61 I believe.  IT was really rough.  So bad the car was given to me for free.   The owner hooked up a battery backwards, ( negative ground) and melted a good portion of the wiring harness.  The good news is there wasn't much of a wiring harness.  I spliced numerous wires together and it was a fun little runner.  But my father threw a fit and so I gave it to my friend whose father did support the project.  I always loved driving that car on the midnight runs around the block!

I once had a '68 Triumph Spitfire back around the early seventies.  I highway drove it 30 miles each way to work , and I can tell you that sixteen wheelers' tires were in fact taller than my car.  I'd look over while driving and see the center of those wheels at eye level.  Had to have a lot of respect and keep out of the way of those trucks!

I had a 1957 Austin Healey 100-6, BN4 that I occasionally drove to work.  It was low enough that I couldn't tell the difference between a patch and a pot hole.  People behind me probably thought that I'd had one too many the way I dodged every dark spot on the road.  I agree, it was really spooky driving next to an 18 wheeler.

As far as rain goes, it would usually stop by the time I got the top out from under the rear seat and snapped into place, then dug the side curtains out of the "boot" and got them bolted to the doors.

bet you wish you should have kept the healey , good restored 70/80 k some more ?

funny how you mention being low down , think small British sportscars  and big American trucks not a good match , don’t think British trucks were as big in the fifties , so not so scary , similarly big American cars were a mismatch for English roads , first motorway opened in 1959 sometimes things don’t travel well.

John, it looks like a good venue for a car show.

I too, like those little English sports car, but on major highways, they would be very scary. Even full size SUV's are intimidating, never mind 18 wheelers! Never owned one myself, but several friends did in the 70's, and they were fun to drive.

Though I have become very spoiled with my big Buicks, so I don't know if they would feel too rough and noisy for this oldish dude now. Still enjoy the look of them, though.

Some more aimless wandering this evening.  It was a late start with some long shadows.

I got a jump on the weekend by taking The Aqua Zephyr out for a sunset cruise to the nearby town of Parkton, North Carolina. They have some cool old buildings that serve well as picture backdrops.

Being retired, the weekend for me consists of seven days ! The '25 coupe just made it's first 10 mile run for groceries. It never missed a beat.Probably it's longest run in at least 30 years.

I too went the local Wed night cruise in in the Reatta. Quite a few cars in what was near summer like weather. Most of the cars are American iron of some kind, but there was this mid sixties MG Midget with a for sale sign nearly as big it!

We took the Electra on a tour Sunday to the Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park. We then went a few miles over to  a park and had a nice picnic lunch in a Gazebo with a stone fireplace around 200 ft. from the Hudson River. Wet roads in the morning and then a few showers on the way home. We drove 179 miles roundtrip.

Our Texas Region AACA hosted the 65th Annual Texas Tour this past week in Nacogdoches, Texas.  The host hotel was The Fredonia Hotel, which had a 17 million dollar remodel in 2017.  It was built in the mid 50's, and was restored in mid 50's modern style.  We had over 80 cars and probably 180 or so people.  We drove the Buick down on Wednesday and assisted with registration, parking lot marking, tour routes, and tour leading.  The Buick logged 590 miles and performed well, considering the water pump had dribbled some before we left.  I got a replacement pump from Bob's that arrived Monday before we left.  I took the new pump with us, and installed it this week when we got back.

Photos are on my wife's' phone, so nothing to share yet.

Today we all met up in the small Northern town of Bancroft, Ont., for the start of a McLaughlin Buick Club tour. Nothing too old on tour this time though, the oldest being a '69 Skylark convert.

I drove the Reatta about 200 miles, and here's a picture of it opposite a lookout. This is a very rugged, but scenic area.

Took the 80C to a little show around the corner...vapor locked on the way home, again???..new mechanical fuel pump and one replacement fuel line didn't fix it. Electrical fuel pump wont over come it...I'm gonna get the spare carb rebuilt  and swap it on to the car and replace fuel sending unit with a repro, then I've replaced the whole fuel system except the tank...

So tired of chasing this...☹️ so tired of not being about to do a 6 mile round trip...?

Brian,

What is that saying about 90% of fuel problems are electrical??? I have never seen a vapor lock situation that was not solved by an electric fuel pump. Unless the electric fuel pump is bad, I really think I would be looking for an electrical problem, perhaps you might want to try a different coil from a good running car?

I attended the "Made in the USA" car show today at Lake Wheeler Park in Raleigh, NC. I was parked next to a beautiful 1968 Electra 225 convertible. The owner is in the same Buick club as me.
