Raise your hand if you drove at least one old Buick this weekend

Hi All,

I am a little late posting this but the other weekend my two Buicks final got to meet fender/mudguard to fender/mudguard. They both had a run as I have one at home and another at a local storage unit and have started to change them over as they take turns going out for a run. Unfortunately, they cannot be stable mates at this point as all of my efforts in trying to convince my wife to sell her little used Toyota GT86, which has barely covered 15000 kilometres in 7 years, have been unsuccessful...damn! Cheers Paul

Can you convince her to let you build a bigger stable? 🙂

After two plus years of sleeping in the Buick Barn, I finally got a new magneto coupler installed, set the timing and drove it from the barn to my home shop.  Now, to polish the nickel and do a good lube and adjustments in preparation for the NW touring season.

That’s beautiful!!

We had a nice Buick weekend. On Saturday we took the Electra out for breakfast, etc., a drive of about 35 miles or so. Then today it was so nice I drove the Reatta, top down, to another city to pick up some items, almost all of it two lane paved roads, just a few miles on a major highway. I didn't take note of the mileage but it was something like 110 miles total.

Not the weekend but apparently a nice quiet week of relaxing in the good weather. Had the '60 up to the other end of town for coffee with the old farts and warmed up all the car fluids.

Now it is almost lunchtime.

Motor Muster at Greenfield Village (The Henry Ford Museum) is held annually on Father's Day weekend.

@1957buickjim brought his Special 2 door sedan and his Special Riviera Estate Wagon, I brought the 58 Caballero.

We parked all 3 together; you can see Jim's wagon in the reflection on my car in the last image.

It was fun talking to so many folks about station wagon memories.

Jim has a very nice display, complete with period "tunes" played through drive-in speakers that attracted a LOT of attention.

It was a wonderful weekend!

Interesting to see side-by-side the developmental changes between these two cars that occurred within just six years...

I agree, you look at the design evolution of modern cars and there is little difference between a 2005 model and the current models

I wish, it would mean a large block of land and with prices in and around Sydney over $900,000US average for a postage stamp property I don't see a sign off!

IMG_20230621_171620280.jpg.a70e7a794e9c4605db8dabff4859a9e4.jpgWent for a test drive / stress drive.  Outside temperature 105°

  Engine temperature 200 to 210°

Factory air conditioner only drops the temperature 20° so it was a little uncomfortable at 105° outside.

All that is tolerable as long as I don't get stuck in traffic.

If I'm going to drive this thing to Spokane I have to drive through temperatures like that for at least the first day.

Hopefully temperatures will moderate before I leave otherwise I won't be driving that car or I won't be going at all.

263 miles to Morgantown PA  yesterday. And odd gas milage results.  On the leg with 182 miles we were traveling roughly 55mph on all highways. The Super got 15 mpg. On the 2nd leg for 82 miles we had maybe 1/3 rural roads through some small tow with traffic and it only got 10 mpg.  I probably did not completely fill the tank at the first stop.

Otherwise I was pleased with the cars performance.

Had dinner tonight at the Shady Maple Smorgasborg. A great visit with @parkertom and @Buick Regal GS and many others.

So - averaging somewhere closer to 12.5 mpg, which is nearer what I get on my 1954 Caddy when not being overly cautious?

Thanks for your drive and pic of your lovely Buick - '56 is one of my favorites !

Thanks to @dibarlaw for leading a 81 mile tour thru the PA country side yesterday.

We went to the 100 year old pagoda lookout  for a view of the valley, then 20230622_102356.jpg20230622_101609.jpg20230622_101130.jpg

Then to a candy factory and shop, then to a the Boyertown museum of Historic Vehicles, a teriffic car museum

with a fantastic preservation of a carriage factory, all of which were very interesting.  We also got pictures in a wooden bridge and stopped for lunch at a great pizza shop before taking a route guaranteed to make us all lost if we got separated. Did about 81 miles for the 6 hour tour.  Annie kept up with Larrys car and the others with no complaints.

A great trip for which I took more pictures that I will need to process before I can post.

Thanks again Larry and John Scheib for the accomodations.

Home tonight.  The trip today took a long time as I was stopping a few times for rest breaks.  So glad I got the wiper motor rebuilt.  Needed them quite a bit on this leg.  Discovered I have the Bowden cable hitting the motors on-off switch with enough pressure as to stop the motor from turning off.  Made a field adjustment but will have to find a better solution.  Also finding my accelerator has a sticky point unless I massage the pedal to one side while stepping on it.  Will have to go after that right away.  Discovered I really miss power windows too,  🤔  haha...!

Anyway, 708 miles, and overall MPG of 16.1.  Annie felt very strong on the run, and it was a fun time at the Meet.

Spent many many summers and thanksgivings at my grandmothers in Morgantown and of course shady maple IGA. Best ring baloney.  Best potato's from the Amish. I get shoo-fly pies sent down to Texas every Thanksgiving from there still. Thanks for bringing back many long forgotten memories. Last time I was there Shady Maple was just in the start up phase of the resturant.

Sounds like it was a good shakedown cruise.  Take care of the items that you mentioned and drive on!  ;)

Thanks for posting your photos John! My mileage varied also. Coming to Morgantown, touring and going home.

Here are a few I took.

Arrival after 106 miles at about 15 mpg.

Took about a 120 mile round trip up to Buffalo for an ice cream social with the Cadillac Club.

I took my Buick, sat at a table with a member that drove a Lincoln, and talked about AMC cars and the Nash national meet coming up in Batavia.

I do enjoy that group.

It rained a little on the way there and a cloud burst coming back. Stiil had tiny spots on the Rainex after supper.

I bought the car in 2001 with 67,000 miles on it. Almost made IMG_0295(1).JPG.d09d5ae02e37917d0a3c0a58b6a37de0.JPGa milestone.

And the door roller down for the night.

By the way, there is a~20 year old Cadillac in the back corner but the Buick really needed the run.

Finally got some seat time in a Buick today and was able to get the wagon out to stretch its legs.

There is nothing like a sweet running Buick with working AC to make you regret life choices, like deciding to skip the Nationals due to work… oh well.

Out touring with the Snapper's Brass and Gas Touring Region of the AACA last weekend.  When I said the mist in the trees was lovely I was corrected and said it was smoke from the wildfires.  BTW, the car in the foreground is a 1913 Renault, 2 cyl French car driven, by my friend who turned 89 years old this week.

Regards, Gary

Drove the ‘63 Skylark convertible a distance of 70km or 43miles on Sunday to meet its new owner Kevin. Kevin test drove it last Sunday and was impressed how smooth and quiet it was, even able to talk with the top down around 50mph. He was hooked and bought it and my task was to deliver it as it is on historic registration which is not transferable. A happy and sad task all the same. Picture of the new owner Kevin and his friend Pauline and my chauffeur Max in the background with his 2002 Five Series BMW.

I drove the '53 in our local car cruise for charity, and spent a day wheeling out the old paint on the Riviera and giving it a coat of wax.  It will never be more than an old paint job, but it's good at 10 feet.  PXL_20230707_205638783.jpg.a00be443e2fee9c16024665961ddcaf1.jpgPXL_20230707_155411443.jpg.40da9f0f99930d90a308ddcdcadd93b0.jpg

On Sunday (7/9/23), I attended the Endicott Estate annual car show in Dedham, MA with members of my BCA Minuteman Chapter.  We had 16 Buicks participate.  This car show attracts at least 1500 cars of all makes and models.  To my left is a '34 Model 60, and to my right is a '56 4 door hardtop.

I just returned from Highland Park (just north of Chicago) with my new prize.  The trade has been successful and while I "could" have tried to start it to pull it out of garage I decided to just push/winch it on instead.  Once home I decided to see how hard it might be to start (the fuel tank is out due to leaks) so I dropped a jerry can in and gave it a try knowing the battery hadnt been check/charged in over a year since I had it running for them last summer.  Slow at first but then picking up a little speed (starter) she cranked right up and I drove her off the trailer.

There is something special OMO about the hood lines of this generation of Buick and how a good wax job just seems to make the paint look liquid in nature. Like nature itself is just sliding down off the center.   My 49 at the local 4th show.

The kind that looks like its going to blow out when you look away yet somehow stays inflated for a decade.  I think its for some military truck???  I have 4 new tires as part of the deal so she will be getting new shoes.

Hi All,

Just returned from a trip out to the south-west New South Wales and a country town called Leeton (Picture 6). The town was founded rather more recently than I imagined (April 1912) which would seem to account for the large number of Art Deco buildings that make up most of the towns CBD and is the home of a number of iconic Art Deco water towers designed by an American architect, Walter Burley Griffin who is famous in Australia as the designer of our national capital, Canberra. This makes Leeton a great location for an Art Deco festival and the reason why my wife and I and eight other friends set off last Thursday for the 1000 mile round trip with me in the '36 and my friend Michael in a '41 Sedanette with others following in modern vehicles (Picture One). The trip took in as many small country towns as we could (Pictures 4 and 5). We broke the journey at the 320 mile point with a stay in a beautiful historic bed and breakfast in a little town called Grenfell which has a small Chrysler museum of all things. The following day we set off for the short 130 mile hop to Leeton. We spent the next few days attending activities around town and dinners and balls at night staying in an historic hotel (Picture 2) up on the hill in the centre of town. We ran into a local fellow who owned a 1934 convertible coupe he had found rusting in a paddock in 1981 and restored it as a restomod with Holden V8 and running gear and '36 Buick front suspension pulled from another paddock wreck. (Picture 3) Monday we set off further west to a small town call Whitton and a recently developed whiskey and gin distillery called the Whitton Malt House. The place processes grain for the attached restaurant and tasting business but also provides grain to most of Australia's beer production industries. We stayed in boutique cabins arrayed around a made-made lake and spend a relaxing evening chatting over drinks and cheese before setting off back to Grenfell again for the night, finding a 1927(?) Buick radiator cap in a local antique store, and then the long trip home on Tuesday.  Both Buicks ran well without any problems.  I used 90 gallons of fuel at the rate of 12 mpg at a cost of $400.00 USD, Cheers Paul    image.jpeg.61b5dd2306d574e7f1c7c765a69b9555.jpegimage.jpeg.6ffd52622c71ef058c0bdead3406d979.jpegimage.jpeg.ff6f9634aa9248e70cc91b5dcaebdbe0.jpegimage.jpeg.fa051134df693b35e19f299770b12739.jpegimage.jpeg.dc64fe19b09dc379ea0b11f725772684.jpeg
