Raise your hand if you drove at least one old Buick this weekend

Tonight was the first of the local cruise nights to start and we had lovely weather for it. I drove the Electra, and there were 160 cars there but I was the only Buick!

One car you don't see too often was this Cosworth Vega, and a very original example. The little screamer puts out in the region of 200 HP with 7,000 RPM redline.

Like @EmTee mentioned, we were together at the Rhinebeck 2023 car show. I had taken Annie on Saturday because we have a new member in our Chapter and he wanted some information on the 54 convertible he just had delivered. So after a thorough trip thru the junk in the swap meet I headed over to his place on the way home.  Imagine my surprise when we arrived and found this 26k sweetheart20230506_174615.jpg

20230506_174655.jpg20230506_174630.jpganyway that would be a whole different story.

Did the 180 mile round trip in the 56, and had a slight problem close to home.  Still not sure how to even describe it but Annie made it.

Sunday I took the Queen right back there. That really is a fablous ride in that car.

20230507_100702.jpgHere's the group touring together.  Everyone was offered the option of going on ahead of the 29 Model A, but everyone chose to slow it down and run with Lee.

Here is our Buick Club class. 16 cars to begin with.

20230507_113636 (1).JPGFor a moment I was wondering if @Dandy Dave had painted the Chartreuse Lady, but no, this is a 2nd one in this area.

The following were the three awards we were able to give out in our class.  No formal judging, just the assistant director and I made the choice and presented our awards

There were a lot of other Buicks on the show field, but I have shot pictures of them all in the past,

Thanks for sharing that JD. 🙂 The 15 Buick you saw is a C-24 which is the small roadster. It is owned by Jeff Morton. He has photos of it when his mother was young and having fun in it. It is an excellent example of that model. Note that the fuel tank is just behind the seat and round. That is the easiest way to know the difference between models.

the 54  that had just been delivered.   Typo or did he not know?    Beautiful car.

  Ben

He did not know.  The short version of the story is this;  his family knew the original owners family as friends in New York City, where the car was purchased.  The Buick was used there and eventually wound up in Ireland with another relative of the original owner.  Stored more than used in Ireland, when that relative was done with it no other relative wanted it so they offered it to this fellow who had it shipped back to the USA.

And since I brought it up @Dandy Davewas showing his restorative skills resurecting and now driving this White Truck, with a load of goods including a White sewing machine! What a blast!

🤣😂🙃 Don't tell no body but them feed sacks is full of corn mash fer makin moonshine. This has been more of a "resurrection" project than a "restoration" One thing fer sur is getin by the DOT is easy as pie. They just roll on the ground and laugh when I roll by in this at the truck inspection stop. 😉 Code name for the White Whiskey operation is Al Coe, Hauling. One call does it all. 😁

A cruise Night in my town before they close the Erie Canal lift bridge on Main St for 18-24 months on Monday.

My car with the '35 Studebaker that was written up in Hemmings Classic Cars a few months ago.

But I have a Rat. I bought that from Ed Roth when he was a guest at a local meet. We got a chance to talk and share stories for a while that day. At the time I owned a Jaguar XJS. We agreed the place for the rat was inside the cat.

No cats at the moment so it resides in the Buick.

Drove out to a local swap meet this morning looking for a few parts. No Buick parts left empty handed.

Stopped at the $100 store on the way back home. All I needed was a hearing aid repaired no shopping for me, a few minutes later I was on the way.

After two plus years of sleeping in the Buick Barn, I finally got a new magneto coupler installed, set the timing and drove it from the barn to my home shop.  Now, to polish the nickel and do a good lube and adjustments in preparation for the NW touring season.

Yesterday was car moving day.

The '86 convertible spent 5 months away from home to give me elbow room during the winter months.

New hydraulic top cylinders last year. This year new front struts and a little paint work. Surprising to think I bought it in 2011.

Sadly, my Skylark will be off the road at least until mid-July. Need rear axle bearings, I have to remove the intake to re-drill and tap the water fitting for the stock carburetor (coolant-operated choke), and it developed a leak in the timing chain cover where it meets the driver side head. Humbug. I really shouldn't complain. I put more than 10,000 trouble-free miles on it since September. I guess it wants a rest.

On Friday I picked my Reatta up from where it had been stored for the winter. The deal was a friend wanted me to sort a few things out on his '40 McLaughlin Buick coupe over the winter, and he would provide storage for one of my cars, the Reatta in this case.

With his just about ready to go back to him I wanted to bring the Reatta home so I can drive a bit in the nice weather we are now having.

The car was on a battery maintainer all winter, and it started right up like it was yesterday! With a check of the fluids and tires too all was well and I drove it 70-75 miles home and a side trip. Ran and drove great.

I love my oldies a lot for sure, but wow fuel injection and electronic ignition sure is nice too!

We did a 60 mile round trip to the AACA Gettysburg Spring meet. We met the Kiktas for lunch and had a drive down the old Lincoln Highway.

Beautiful day for a ride with my riding buddy, Teddy. Sunny with a nice breeze too. Took a ride around town on the backroads. Went by a car meet with 60-70’s cars.

Well, the Riviera got out of the garage today to shake off some of the paint dust.

My personal schedule said this was supposed to have primer from the rear of the door opens aft and the roof, last week. Maybe the week after next.

IMG_0278(2).JPG.3c6d7d65d990b2bbcd862107bccd06a0.JPG

It looks like the #240 grit prep will work. Once the primer is on I will cut a few long sanding sticks. In 1980 all we used for filler was primer and I am expecting a repeat of that this time.

Soon the chrome trim comes off- but not for long... according to my schedule.

Yesterday it was such a nice day, but I had to go to my daughter's place to do a some of work in the backyard so I drove the Electra! That was about 125 miles or so round trip, a warmish day so we ran with the AC on most of the time. The car ran great plus I took a more scenic route as part of a major highway was closed for some weekend repairs, so it was a very enjoyable drive.

Sorry folks, no pics this time!

Saturday was car day, Sunday and Monday have been house work days this weekend. We are cleaning things up to prepare for a party to celebrate my daughter’s upcoming high school and community college graduation. Did take some time on Sunday to attend our town’s Memorial Day service though.

Drove the Centurion on my first outing to a small car show about 25 minutes away. When I got home, took the LeSabre convertible out for the first top down drive of the season and stopped by the restored Sinclair station for a photo. Great weekend here with some much needed rain falling this afternoon.

Had the 61 out for a short drive on Memorial Day. My dad, who served in the Air Force from 53 to 57 would have loved the ride, and this 225 is a tribute to the one that was his pride and joy through most of the 60s. A hearty thank you to all who have served.

It’s right down the street from White Post Restorations in the village of White Post, VA. It’s at the main intersection with the name sake white directional post placed by George Washington.

Since it is nice and warm, summer like temps here in Southern Ontario we took the '56 Roadmaster to a large cruise in Port Dover, and old fishing town now a tourist town on the North Shore of lake Erie.

Our old faithful, the '56 Roadmaster has had very little use recently, so we gave it a wash job and took it for an afternoon of hardtop driving! The smooth flow of power and the muted growl from the 322 nailhead with the buttery smooth Dynaflow makes it a nice drive.

Less than 50 miles round trip but all of it on well paved country roads.

The only other Buick there was this Skylark which was a bit of a custom, still running a nailhead though. The paint was extremely well done, kind of like a root beer brown with a hint of burgundy in it. The interior and dash were customized as you can see.

Well not over the weekend but on Wednesday the 31st. We finally moved into the 21st century with a newer Buick. Wife Joan now has a 2020 Envision. Now we have the 2 Buicks 95 years apart.

Hey Larry, nice choice of colors.  It would be great if you painted the Envisions hood black to match the '25.

Today my son and I took his '55 to an upholstery place in another town, to talk to them about getting the seats done, it was about 75 miles round trip. The temps are hot here running in the low 90's to about 95 F, and the engine held it's cool throughout including some traffic. Oil pressure stayed great too, so a successful run.

This was the longest it's been driven since we got it on the road last summer, and the hottest drive too. We took the secondary highways all the way and it cruised comfortably in the 55-60 indicated range.

Here's a shot of it in front of the shop while we were waiting.

John:

Depending on the light many assume the 1925's hood to be black. It is brewster Green.

DSC00746.JPG.57c85566a5334c64fed4aef33142243b.JPG A little better contrast between the Green and the black of the black front fenders. When I redid the front clip after the engine rebuild I did the fenders in what was supposed to be JET BLACK. Compaired to the splash shields which were probably painted in DuPont DUCO or LUCITE #99 Jet Black back in the late 1960s. I sprayed the front mud pan with leftover DuPont Centari #99.  I did not see the difference untill I installed them. The fenders between the splash shield and the mud pan look to be more like a dark charcoal gray.
