The original post says "highway in the lyrics" but all the answers have been "highway in the title". 😉

Highway Star - Deep Purple

Roll on Down the Highway - BTO

Rockin' Down the Highway - Doobie Brothers

Now for songs with "highway" in the LYRICS, there's Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
In whatever comes our way

Ventura HWY is in the title and all throughout the lyrics.

Jessie Collin Young/Youngbloods, "Pontiac Blues":

Cruisin' out on the highway, Highway 49,

She's layin' back in my arms and sayin' Baby this sure is fine,

I found out what my baby likes

She likes a whole lot of lovin in my straight 8 Pontiac

She says "I like you daddy but I love your Pontiac.

Grateful Dead  "Ripple"

"there is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night"

Ripple is a great song by the Dead and that is a classic line in the song.

How about the Grateful Dead's "LA Fadeaway" with "Red light on the Highway, Big Green light on the Speedway". in the chorus.

I am surprised that the Woody Guthrie song “This Land is Your Land” hasn’t been mentioned yet. Verse 2:

As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway
Saw below me that golden valley
This land was made for you and me

On titles with the word "highway":

Highway Blues

Highway 80 Blues

Lost Highway

If we can substitute the word "road" for "highway", the title song to one of my favorite movies: The Ballad of Thunder Road.

Will pass on the lyrics; my memory doesn't remember all of them, and too busy to crank up the turntable.

And while the word "highway" is not mentioned; everyone knew the song referred to Highway 61: Chief and his G.T.O.

I have a database of 1584 albums and singles relating to automobiles, motorcyles, and racing listed by: title, label, number, artist, and RPM which I would be happy to email to anyone wishing a copy. Just PM your email address, and desired format (microsoft access, microsoft excel, text, etc.).

Here are a few that are pretty obscure - from my collection of automobile related sheet music.  I've got around 300 and many of them have "highway" in the lyrics - but you were probably not talking about some of this early stuff.

Considering all of the "lay ups" and then all of the tricky ones that should have been right up there with the lay ups

Whats this one?

"Shes the terror of Colorado Blvd". or something similar.

You might be thinking of Highwayman with Waylon, Kris K., Willie and Johnny Cash

"A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado"

Another forgotten one is "Key to the Highway" by Led Zeppelin on Zepp III album. A little to obscure to enjoy on the road though.

Save it for a 70's bar crawl ;)

However, Mark Knoplfers "Long Highway" is an epic listen on a cool desert night when it's just you and the road at 2 am.

*John Denver Country Roads deserves a place in this thread*
