I have come back to this thread today and enjoy seeing the family cars and stories you have shared.

I've posted my Dad's cars earlier in this thread but have to post this car of his.

He bought a 1928 Whippet as a project from a car club member after having changed hands several times to get it to this.

Mom thought he was nuts!

It was his attempt at an amateur restoration and took him all of 28 years to finish it but did get to enjoy driving her till his eyesight failed.

I still have the car, wish I could still have Dad...

Never met either of my grandfathers and piss ant left us six kids when I was 10 so there's that...

Hence the blank photo (no photos at all) but I'm enjoying seeing everyone else's family photos as it gives me hope for me and my son who is now 34 and as I hope to be a grandfather soon. After 34 going on 35 great years now with my wife and having two kids I've done what my ole man never had the balls to do (be a family....) 👍

Enjoying everyone's photos. Good stuff guys keep them coming 😀

What a great photo Harry, thanks for sharing it. Love the clarity and setting,... (you don't see many like this).

Something tells me the two rascals in the back seat on the left loved to scrap... I noticed the one boy in the middle has a shiner.
Which one is your parent in the photo ?

A picture of my dad's # 89 race car at his service station in Manhasset, NY. I just noticed an interesting convertible just behind it, any ideas on what that may be?

He kept racing until my mom gave him the choice of racing or her, it worked out okay.

Only one of my grandparents even drove - and that wasn't until the 30s when he was in his 40s. However, this is my great uncle, my grandmother's brother. I think the car is a Hudson. He was the chauffeur for a well to do New London family who had a Model 48 Locomobile. They bought this so he could use it to run errands etc.

The first photo is the only one I have of the 1917 Studebaker Six that my grandparents owned in the 1920s.

The next one was taken about 1942 and is the 1924 Studebaker Big Six they owned through the late 1930s and through the war years. The woman holding the slate is my grandmother, born 1890.

This one predates the car. The two children are my uncle - now still alive and well at 97, and my late aunt. My father had not yet been born. The date would be about 1926. The man driving the dray was a neighbour, George Ashby, who worked for my great grand parents for some time. I have an idea that horse collar is still hanging in the stable.

My grandfather James Ash had a ca. 1912 Mitchell when my father was a young boy.  Here's a picture of James, my grandmother Addie, and I think it's my father Ellis in the back seat, probably about 1920-22.  My grandmother never drove a car.  My grandfather drove a Rickenbacker at some point; it even had small flower vases in the back seat according to my grandmother.  Much later, they had a 1937 Plymouth that they sold to my father in 1947 so that we could move from Seattle to Baltimore.  I have some memories of riding in the back seat of the '37 Plymouth on that trip, squeezed in there with my older sister and younger brother.  There was a little fan on top of the dash as a defroster.  Some days, my 18-month old brother rode in one of those kiddie seats that hung over the top of the front seat, so I got a little more room.  Eventually, the '37 got traded on a 1950 Plymouth.

I'm not sure about the exact model years of the cars, but the first picture is my late Grandpa (smoking a cigar) with his 1933 Ford. The second is also my Grandpa (smoking a pipe) with a fishing buddy and his 1946 Ford. Both pictures were taken in upstate NY. Again...I could be wrong about the make and model years...but I was told he was always a Ford man. He died in 1961. Third picture was taken on my birthday in Florida with my late Dad's 62 Vette in 1986.

First, last, and probably only photo of my father with one of his old cars. This is October 1973 and this is probably the weekend after he bought his 1934 Ford Deluxe sedan at auction. I distinctly recall that we all got dressed up to go out to dinner in it. My mother had him pose in the parking lot with the car. My father is 35 years old and dressed as I always knew him: in a suit and tie. You can see 3-year-old me in the windshield with a red hat on.

This photo is bittersweet. This was the start of our hobby together and I'm glad to still be on the path that started right there and then. I miss the car, which was a good one. My father is a young man in the photo (he's almost 81 today) and in the prime of his life. He's also 13 years younger than I am today. Time is short, don't waste it.

PS: I never noticed and did not remember that this car had a sealed-beam conversion. Yuck.

In 1952 my dad together with his brother bought a 1926 Ford Model T Fordor Sedan in bushell baskets, literally a basket case. Over the summer they assembled the car and drove it through high school. The car was sold when my dad went to England in 1957 but he was able to get it back in 1969. We've had the car ever since. I inherited it last year after dad succumbed to Parkinson's disease.  Here it is as it looked in 1974 (dad behind the wheel) and as it is today.

Dad's one and only "new car" purchase.

While he initially liked the car, as I came along and did my sister, the 2 door was a pain so went out to buy a "family" four door. Learned that the resale price was as he put it, Like throwing cash in the river! 😝

He found this 1955 Oldsmobile 88 at a fair price as the replacement and it converted him to a GM Olds / Buick follower!

Many a trip was made in that car.

One more shot to share. This is the same group, minus my dad at dad's memorial service last year.

This photo was taken in 1927.  My Dad standing on the running board was 2 years old at the time.  My Granddad is with him in the photo.  While I'm at it, I'll ask if enough of the roadster is showing for anyone to identify it?  I remember my Granddad talking about a Studebaker he had at one time way back, but something tells me that this is not that car.

I have this photo of my Dad and Granddad with my Dad's very first car.  What I wouldn't give to have that little car now.  Photo was taken sometime in 1929 or 1930.

Slightly off topic but I recently posted this on the AACA facebook page. My mother bought this 1948 Ford Deluxe Club coupe from Elmwood Ford in Chicago in 1953 for $561.00. It had the flathead V-8 and was a dark maroon color. She had just sold her previous car, a 1930 Ford Model A, to a farmer for $100.00. She kept the car until 1960 when she inherited my father's 55 Ford.

It's time for a real photo of my signature car.  A 1961 Dodge Polara 2 door hardtop.  Bought new by my Dad in September 1961.  I was 8 years old at the time and with Mom and Dad in the showroom of Hutton-Scott Dodge (Randolph Scott's family).  Mom fell in love with the Dodge in the center of the showroom and we came home with it.  Dad drove it until 1965, traded in Mom's 1956 Chevrolet 150 and it became her car until 1969, when it was passed down to me as my first car.  Mom got a 1968 Dodge Charger as a replacement.  I still have the car and hope to get it out again in 2019.  These photos are from the last major trip I drove it on from North Carolina to the UP of Michigan and back.  I saw the Northern Lights for the first time as we were driving into the UP.  Space age Dodge and the Northern Lights...….what a combination!

You either love or hate the look of this car.  There has never been any in between.
