I've posted my Dad's cars earlier in this thread but have to post this car of his. He bought a 1928 Whippet as a project from a car club member after having changed hands several times to get it to this. Mom thought he was nuts! It was his attempt at an amateur restoration and took him all of 28 years to finish it but did get to enjoy driving her till his eyesight failed. Hence the blank photo (no photos at all) but I'm enjoying seeing everyone else's family photos as it gives me hope for me and my son who is now 34 and as I hope to be a grandfather soon. After 34 going on 35 great years now with my wife and having two kids I've done what my ole man never had the balls to do (be a family....) 👍 Enjoying everyone's photos. However, this is my great uncle, my grandmother's brother. I think the car is a Hudson. He was the chauffeur for a well to do New London family who had a Model 48 Locomobile. The next one was taken about 1942 and is the 1924 Studebaker Big Six they owned through the late 1930s and through the war years. My father had not yet been born. The date would be about 1926. The man driving the dray was a neighbour, George Ashby, who worked for my great grand parents for some time. Here's a picture of James, my grandmother Addie, and I think it's my father Ellis in the back seat, probably about 1920-22. My grandmother never drove a car. My grandfather drove a Rickenbacker at some point; it even had small flower vases in the back seat according to my grandmother. Much later, they had a 1937 Plymouth that they sold to my father in 1947 so that we could move from Seattle to Baltimore. I have some memories of riding in the back seat of the '37 Plymouth on that trip, squeezed in there with my older sister and younger brother. There was a little fan on top of the dash as a defroster. Some days, my 18-month old brother rode in one of those kiddie seats that hung over the top of the front seat, so I got a little more room. The second is also my Grandpa (smoking a pipe) with a fishing buddy and his 1946 Ford. Both pictures were taken in upstate NY. Again...I could be wrong about the make and model years...but I was told he was always a Ford man. He died in 1961. Third picture was taken on my birthday in Florida with my late Dad's 62 Vette in 1986. This is October 1973 and this is probably the weekend after he bought his 1934 Ford Deluxe sedan at auction. I distinctly recall that we all got dressed up to go out to dinner in it. My mother had him pose in the parking lot with the car. My father is 35 years old and dressed as I always knew him: in a suit and tie. You can see 3-year-old me in the windshield with a red hat on. This photo is bittersweet. This was the start of our hobby together and I'm glad to still be on the path that started right there and then. I miss the car, which was a good one. My father is a young man in the photo (he's almost 81 today) and in the prime of his life. He's also 13 years younger than I am today. Time is short, don't waste it. Over the summer they assembled the car and drove it through high school. The car was sold when my dad went to England in 1957 but he was able to get it back in 1969. We've had the car ever since. I inherited it last year after dad succumbed to Parkinson's disease. While he initially liked the car, as I came along and did my sister, the 2 door was a pain so went out to buy a "family" four door. Learned that the resale price was as he put it, Like throwing cash in the river! 😝 He found this 1955 Oldsmobile 88 at a fair price as the replacement and it converted him to a GM Olds / Buick follower! My Granddad is with him in the photo. While I'm at it, I'll ask if enough of the roadster is showing for anyone to identify it? I remember my Granddad talking about a Studebaker he had at one time way back, but something tells me that this is not that car. My mother bought this 1948 Ford Deluxe Club coupe from Elmwood Ford in Chicago in 1953 for $561.00. It had the flathead V-8 and was a dark maroon color. She had just sold her previous car, a 1930 Ford Model A, to a farmer for $100.00. 61polara Posted December 30, 2018 Share Posted December 30, 2018 (edited) It's time for a real photo of my signature car. A 1961 Dodge Polara 2 door hardtop. Bought new by my Dad in September 1961. I was 8 years old at the time and with Mom and Dad in the showroom of Hutton-Scott Dodge (Randolph Scott's family). Mom fell in love with the Dodge in the center of the showroom and we came home with it. Dad drove it until 1965, traded in Mom's 1956 Chevrolet 150 and it became her car until 1969, when it was passed down to me as my first car. Mom got a 1968 Dodge Charger as a replacement. I still have the car and hope to get it out again in 2019. These photos are from the last major trip I drove it on from North Carolina to the UP of Michigan and back. I saw the Northern Lights for the first time as we were driving into the UP. Space age Dodge and the Northern Lights...….what a combination! You either love or hate the look of this car.
