Raise your hand if you drove at least one old Buick this weekend

Did a bit of fall foliage tour for Nickel era cars in Maryland. Only 131 mile round trip for us since we could not attend the second day. About 20 cars participated 1914-1928.

Had the wagon out finishing some bodywork and wet sanding. Pulled the 47’ out and gave her her final bath before tucking her away next week for the winter.

We are finally get perfect driving weather here in North Texas after a pretty hot summer. But I sure miss the leaves falling and the brisk mornings of the northern states.  Doubt we get much color this year with the drought. Had a great mid afternoon drive today with it right around 80 stopping for lunch at my buddys place.

Seems like I spend a lot of time restoring, like shuffling things around from one point of storage to another. Well, it got the old Buicks out into the yard with their new friend.

The Chrysler is slated for a drive train rebuild. After its long storage I could only get about 40 degrees swing out of the engine with a flywheel turner. I did the obvious checks and decided even if I got a full revolution I would not be satisfied so I will dive in after a couple of priority jobs get done on the Buicks. Probably sell the convertible to fund the job. My wife had trouble with the heavy doors but now she can't even get into it.

The Chrysler is a '48 Saratoga. Originally a straight 8 well optioned car. It has a 350 Chevy with a Camaro subframe and all that goes with it. Seating is very close to our Avalanche. I mainly got it for her but sitting/riding time is about 30-45 minutes now. I only put 400 miles on my '60 Buick this year so far, usually it is about 1600.

So I am shifting and adapting.

Hi All,

Last weekend was the return to the three day event called ChromeFest here on the New South Wales Central Coast. It is the first event since 2019 (covid cancellations of course) so it was with great expectation that hundreds of cars would converge at my local sea side town called 'The Entrance'. Arriving at our staging point at the Returned and Serviceman's League Club (the Australian version of the American Legion) I was advised that the local Council had cancelled the event due to rain. As we had already lined up the Buicks (13 or 14 I think) we decided to stay and went off to breakfast together in the Club. When we emerged an hour or so later other event attendees must have seen us parked there and joined in for what became and impromptu show and shine. By 11.30, the sun started to show and we drove down into town to find lots of classic cars were still around and the place was packed so we ended up having fish and chips and beers for lunch down by the water front. Despite the event being cancelled it there was still enough to do and see to make it a worthwhile trip and also to catch up with lots of Buick Club members. Cheers Paul

Over the weekend, I had my two oldest cars out for a short drive, the '16 McLaughlin and the '41 McLaughlin Buick. (The '16 uses a Buick engine and running gear, just fyi)

About a dozen miles on each, so not a lot of driving but it was a lovely weekend here in Ontario with temps in 70 F range. The cool thing as we were coming home and were stopped at a stop sign a gent at the opposite sign waved to us and shouted "Can I take a look?". So of course I said yes,  then offered him a ride which he gladly accepted.

Part of my intent when I bought the '16 was to share it with others, by letting them sit in it and give rides where possible so folks can get the experience of early motoring. He was very surprised at how comfortable it was riding in the backseat, and how roomy it is too.

It was well after dark when I drove the '41 so the pic is taken just after it was parked in the garage, my wife's Wildcat is in the background.

And people ask if these old cars are reliable. Proof in the pudding.

For the most part they can be as reliable as today's cars, IF you keep up with maintenance (oil changes every 3,000 miles or so, points, cap, rotor, chassis lube, trans fluid, etc.).

On Saturday, I drove 60 miles round trip to go to a car show in Southport NC. The weather forecast called for some spotty showers in the morning so I had to put the top up on the 80C for the drive down. It actualy rained almost all the way down. A fellow local AACA member sent me this photo of me pulling into the show. After I arrived, I put the top down and we did not have any more rain.

Just spent 6 days travelling down south (of Western Australia) with a couple of Oldsmobile's, a bunch of Ford Model A's, a couple of Ford Falcon's and a Wolseley. Drove 840 miles. It is late spring here so some of the wildflowers are still out but the weather is touchy. Had a storm blow through, you will see be the bottle brush flower drop on the Electra! Only issue I had was it looks like my wiper switch is playing up. I changed the wiper motor but still have a problem so had to use the "wiper in a bottle" (rain-ex).

The temperature here was in the mid 70's today (November 6).  I had to check the calendar before resetting my clocks to make sure I was going in the right direction...  ;)

So, with a day as nice as this, I decided to take the '38 for a ride 'downtown'.

Hi All, my wife and I attended a warbirds event in the New South Wales town of Scone located about 220 miles north west of Sydney. It was a hot and sunny day with a bunch of great aircraft. The Buick helped us get some behind the scene action and the opportunity for some great photos. I got to drive the 1925 this week after a month of trying to chase down gremlins causing things to run crappy. I thought that I finally solved the problem. Drove it Thursday and then Friday morning and all went well! On the way home from breakfast Friday morning the different coil I had installed shifted in the holder, shorted at the contacts in against the holder and took out my newly rebuilt combination switch. Good thing I did not fully install the switch back into the dashboard, keeping it on the test cradle that I made.

Friend Dave B and I had to tow her home with my S-10.

It was very nice here yesterday and so I took the 56 for a ride to the farm market. On the ride I was thinking how much quieter the car was and then remembered I never put in the hearing aids. I think that is how I will drive it in the future.  Lol

Anyway, just 15 miles of smiles..but better than nothing.

LOL.  I LIKE leaving the hearing aids off once in a while.

If I ever need hearing aids you can bet I'll never turn them off. I'm much too nosy, and don't like to miss anything that's going on.

Our AACA Chapter regularly transports local elected officials in Convertibles for the City's Annual Holiday Parade. Now that I own a convertible, I consented to carrying the Mayor in tonight's parade.
