I deeply regret missing this and was very happy to see Lamar this morning in the car corral. I didn't realize you guys were like 50 yards from our space--my list said you were in the Red field for some reason. I'll see you next year, save me some!

Was really great catching up with everyone.  Having a few beers and talking about  Buicks. Met some new people.  Matt Harwood, john DeFiores son, (name is escaping me at the moment) and many others.  I managed several scores on things I was needing, caught up with some old friends and managed to make seceral new ones. Cannot wait for next year. Going to run the tires off my convertible going places.

Managed to finally catch Doug Seybold and introduce myself.  He already knew who I was.  Just needed a face to put with the name.

Have to say.....car people are the best people

Matt

also forgot about Larry DeBarry??, saw and talked with Pete Phillips on the show field Saturday. Met a lot of people who had cars 38-41 on the show

field but weren’t members of the forum. John Steed, Ed DePouli should have been in the picture, but was demonstrating his putting trash in a can from 15 ft away for $5.00!  BTW, I still have my $5 in my pocket.

Just curious why the Hershey show program says the swap meet/yard sale is going on all day Saturday as well as the show but 70-80% of the vendors are already gone?

If I am a vendor, unless I’ve sold all my goods or have minimal stuff left to sell, why wouldn’t I take the opportunity to sell my loot on Saturday as well since the car show brings in some prospective buyers!??

Last year I went to the swap meet on Weds with my Son, told my Wife how amazing it was and then took her to the show on Saturday rambling on about how amazing the swap meet was and I couldn’t wait to show her!  I know last year brought some bad weather so to my surprise when we arrived that Saturday (2018) the kits were nearly empty!!

So this year I took her to the swap meet Thursday (Weds I was hoofing it alone and got more accomplished though not as fun as being w someone as pretty as the Mrs!😇🔥🔥), so she could really see the swap meet in action and she was blown away!!

But again, why do vendors not seize this opportunity to sell on Saturday too?

It's become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Most buyers now realize that few vendors are open on Saturday, and/or want to walk the show field instead.  Why was a hundred feet for one vendor?

Most sellers think that there will be no buyers, see above sentence, so why set up? Also, a lot of vendors have been set up since Tuesday, so four days of vending and by the one is tired of looking at car parts, or want to get home for the weekend.

The early week set up doesn't bode well for a Saturday flea market....

Plus the site is not really friendly for doing both the swap meet and the show field.  I was there Weds am and walked 9 miles as per the counter on my son's phone app.  That was just the green field and the Chocolate field North, and half of the car coral.  Supposedly clocked 25 miles by Friday afternoon and finished all the fields and all the car coral.  Still missed a lot.  Saturdays show wasn't even within the swap meet field, but was adjacent to the Orange field and car coral.  It would be close to a two mile walk just to get to the opposite boundary of the furthest red field ( where is where I finally found someone willing to entertain an offer on a Tonka Dump Truck, the absolute last vendor in the field!  lol)

But had a great time! Thanks to @jackofalltrades70, @NC-car-guy, @MrEarl, @Pinhead63, @38Buick 80C, @dibarlaw and several folks who do not participate on these forums.  But most of all thanks to my son Justin @Jstbcausd93, who convinced me to go and spent his week off with me!  That was the best part for me.

I had the opportunity to say hello and meet for the first time MrEarl

We talked Buick of course in front of a 1958 Buick Caballero.

Spoke of the late Bob Coker and his Buick Landau amongst other things.

It was good to meet "Mr. Earl".

According to the program the swap meet is all day Saturday too, nothing with the car show would prevent the vendors from vending!

Great time and we are pooped. We were packed up by 12:00 on Saturday to spend time at the car show. Caught Mr. Bulgari at David Landow's car's location.

Then to the HPOF section to hobnob with Buick brother Schramm.

Vendors want more than the opportunity to sell---they want actual sales.  If experience shows very low sales on Saturday year after year, why stick around?

Experienced buyers know to be there earlier in the week, and know it takes more than 1 day to cover the fields.

I've always enjoyed selling on Saturdays at Hershey. We pack our "good" parts up Friday night, mark the prices way down and lay out a BIG spread of stuff we don't want to take back home. As the surrounding vendors leave one by one our spaces of parts are very visible to everyone still walking the Green Field, an island in a sea of parking lot.  Everybody notices and they have to come and check out what we have. We sell a good bit of stuff and we meet many interesting people. Some thank us for staying open! We're out by 3 p.m. or so. One of my favorite days of the meet, weather permitting of course.

I for one truly enjoyed the camping experience vs a hotel room. Nothing better than sitting around a campfire grilling Yeungling brats, drinking Yeungling beer followed by a few shots of Bullit whiskey and roasted marshmallows. Oh and smoking seegars and telling lies......

We knew it was going to be a good week when God graced us with this unbelievable rainbow at just past  break of dawn the first day

I think most of the total sales are vendor to vendor and happen early in the week. I have made some prearranged purchases to pick up on Friday, but carrying distances for large items is really far. Impulse buys are driven by weight and usually just a souvenir.

One year I stopped at a friend's space. He asked if I had bought anything. I had two 1930's road maps in my back pocket and showed him. He said "I have a bunch of those at home". At the tip of my toes was a few cylinder heads. He complained they weren't selling well.

My fav part of the actual car show on Saturday is at 3pm when the parade of cars leaving rolls by!  To see all these works of art move, smell them, hear them, and see the delight of the owners face as people say "cool car, nice car, and wow look at that one!" and the drivers/owners hear them!  THAT is my fav part of the show!!!!

Could NOT get a clear shot of this guys unbelievable car for all the spectators surrounding it all day. It drew the most attention of anything there I think. Will not be surprised to hear it received Best of Show if there was such a category!

Awesome restoration @95Cardinal Enjoyed meeting and breaking bread (and Spam) with you Joe😀

Surely I'm not the only one who worked summers on the farm and whose dad was a professional mechanic.  There was a special hook outside the door to the garage where dad hung his coveralls.  Had he of taken off overalls in the garage, Mom wouldn't have let him walk in the house just wearing his whitey tighties. 😎
