Paul White
Having had a fantastic run of warm, blue sky days but being caught up with family responsibilities over the weekend I grabbed an opportunity to fire up the Buick to deliver a parcel to our son who lives a few miles away. Having completed my good deed for the day, I decided that a little trip down the western side of Tuggerah Lakes was in order. I even located my Grandfather's holiday house that I spent many weekends and holidays at during the '70s. The weather was so good and I was having so much fun I continued on and having circumnavigated the lake I finally arrived home 2 hours later having had a few stops here and there to take in the view. Seems lots of others had the same idea seeing an AC Cobra, '68 Camaro, '35 Ford coupe hot rod and had a chat in a petrol station with an old timer called Roy and his wife and his magnificent red '68 fast back Mustang (one of four Mustangs that he currently owns). I enjoyed myself so much I forgot to take photos...
Buicknutty
Doug, the time chatting was great, and kind of a "cool down", as I was a bit buzzed after the banquet. Your company was greatly appreciated! Keith
Barney Eaton
I drove my 1991 Reatta from Georgetown TX to Brookfield for the National meet. Using the GPS it showed 1064 miles going up.....same route back and no side trips the GPS showed 1180.... I must have pushed the wrong button on the GPS somewhere along the way. No problems except as I started to leave Sunday morning, the "Service A/C" light came on... I just happened to have a can of 134 and hose with me, no further problems.
JohnD1956
We left Brookfield and headed home, the long way. After a good breakfast yesterday, we headed to Milwaukee and up Rt 43 towards Green Bay. Along the way we found a quaint town with access directly to the Lake. It was a beautiful spot, and I got my toes in the water. It was too cold for me though it was a pretty spot. but we had a ways to go so we moved on. We drove almost to Green Bay and found some non ethanol 91 octane for the queen. Also this... I did pass him but then he kept pace with me for roughly 40 miles. Then continued northeast to Marinette. Here two towns come back to back , one in Wisconsin, the other across the bridge, Menominee, is in Michigan. And here, Rt 35 travels right alongside the lake. What a gorgeous ride. Felt like I was back up in the mountains of Oregon. With a few stops along the way for photo ops, we make it to Escanaba MI for an overnight. Here we found a nice local restaurant which had an awesome display of decanters. An easy 255 miles, although the Queen is only getting about 14 mpg with the AC on all the time. Buicknutty
I took the Electra to the Tues night cruise. A nice warm summer evening here, over 80 attended, which is pretty high turnout for this one, as it tends to be a smaller cruise. No pictures, but the Buick count, was 2 Grand Nationals, a '71 Skylark, a '72 Riv., and my Electra. Keith
JohnD1956
Today we continued to drive East after a so so breakfast. I cannot recommend this place for food quality although the service was excellent. At this point Rt 2 takes over for Rt 35 and it is again an interesting ride. First we saw this steam locomotive. These wheels are taller than me! That had to be one powerful loco. Then we stopped along the way at various scenic overlooks. Right before lunch we stopped at this park and got the feet wet again. I was really tempted to get into the water here. It was not that cold. But we kept on moving and after lunch we caught sight of this storm coming on behind us. So we hit the road till we got to the Mackinac Bridge. I just wanted these pictures so we took a few moments to get them. Afterwards the ride south on Rt 75 to our destination in Michigan was another beaut! 217 miles today.

JohnD1956
Pushed a measely 167 miles yesterday to Frankenmuth ,MI. As a town geared to tourism many of us probably have visited it. Linda did so on a tour with the 2008 National in Flint and wanted to go back ever since. It was my first visit and it is picturesque. Later we shopped @ Bronners Christmas Village. The store is amazing in its inventory and probably noted for the permanent displays.

Mark Shaw
JD, Sorry you missed the Forum get-together, but It was good to see you at the meet. Once again, many thanks for the ride from the airport in your Electra....
Thriller
He did make a brief appearance. Drove the Wildcat and others drove the Electra about 450 miles today to make it home. I never realized how much I missed my easy chair. The Wildcat was good on the initial legs, but on the last leg again did some hesitating and stalled. I've gotten too good at popping her into neutral and restarting. I seem to have lost my A/C in the last 60 miles, when I had the sun beating on me. Suzanne has plans for me now...she rode with me for a stretch and she expressed some ideas for what we will bring to future National meets.
JohnD1956
My pleasure Mark. Sorry I got us lost though! Meanwhile it was a catch-up day for Linda today. So we stayed put and I went to Junction Valley Railroad to revist an excellent experience from 1996 or thereabouts. But somtimes you cant go home. It was very disturbing to find the RR ran its last season in 2016, and no, I could not go down in the layout and take pictures. These will have to do. RIP JV RR. Ps: there still is a rr hobby business here, but who knows for how long....

Seems these RR ventures are getting harder to keep interest (not unlike antique cars I guess...). Meantime, Loving your journey home pictures! Since you like trains too, had you known, you should have stopped in to see the Huckleberry RR at Cross Roads Village. Live steam, restored narrow gauge (36") coaches and a fairly long ride for the money. You are past it now as it is near Flint but if you are this way again, a must on the to do list. I understand that this location is a possible car show since the Henry Ford imposed a few changes (which they have apologised for) but will see how that goes.... Wishing continued safe travels to you.

But I had only been to Junction Valley once before, and wanted to experience the ride again. We did try to visit it in 2008 during the National Meet in Flint, but it was a hot day and several issues came up that prevented us from getting there then. Basically it's just proof that one should never put off till tomorrow what ought to be done today.

60FlatTop
Pretty nice just hanging out in the back yard. Took the convertible out to lunch, pulled a couple Ebay parts off the '29 Doodlebug, and shot some grease in the front of the Alley Cat. Cadillac Club meet in Buffalo tomorrow. I'll take that open Buick and hide it on the side street. It is going to roll over into the 55,000's on that ride, about 65 miles each way. JohnD1956
Rolled into the driveway around 10:30 last night. Ugh, sorry vacation has to end, but happy to be sleeping in my own home at the same time. Traveled 2,620 miles this trip. Used roughly 169 gallons of fuel, 2 quarts of oil, 1 quart of antifreeze, 1 can of R-12, and one A/C thermal fuse. Also added 5 lbs of air pressure to each tire, if all maintenance is to be reported. Got just under 15.5 avg per gallon, with the A/C running the entire trip. Have to say my favorite parts of the trip were the National Meet and the Upper Penisula of Michigan. But lots of great memories. Also lots of kind compliments on the Queen, which is was very appreciated! By the way, if you ever find yourself in Birch Run MI for breakfast, check out Tony's I75 Diner! In terms of quality, Excellent! In terms of quanity, that meal can last the whole day. Took a side trip to see Michigan U Stadium in Ann Arbor MI. It's my wife's and son's favorite college football team. Drove through Toledo on Rt2 in Ohio. Rt 2 is a beautiful road from start to finish except where it combines with rt 90 through Cleveland, where we encountered another major traffic jam just East of the infamous Z turn. That lead to a frustrating trip through a great park to find rest room facilities. Which , of course, lead to another frustrating trip through a time worn part of town trying to get back to the lakeshore drive. Along Lakeshore drive I got this last lakeside shot, and asked the Lord that, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, I hope for me, it's by a beautiful sea shore! Now back to the regular scheduled program...cutting the 2 1/2 weeks growth of lawn! Edited July 17, 2017 by JohnD1956 (see edit history)

Beemon
Today is monday, but since I'm on medical leave, every day has been a weekend for me these past few weeks. Today I took my grandpa to the doctor's. He had bypass surgery and his heart had gone into fibrillation. After several blood thinner visits, he finally had a new pace maker installed. I always joke, it's like that new car part you install in your vintage car to keep it running. Anyways, that was a year ago, today he's doing well. He doesn't like getting his picture taken, so I snapped these: Later we went for breakfast (at 5pm) and he talked a bit about the car, among other things. It's always funny, he brings up the Boeing aircraft seat belts he installed in 58 every time he gets in the car.

Beemon
Thanks for the kind words, Doug! I started this project to save an old, depressed man after the death of his wife and I think I've succeeded. I keep moving forward because I unlock the memories and see the joy it brings. One of his care givers told my mother he's only got a couple years left in him so it pains me to go off to college, but at the same time I'm glad he got to experience the car he started a family with again.
dei
Went to the weekly cruise in last night. Came real close to winning the 50/50 of $155.00. Have to watch the car more as someone was picking at the driver seat stuffing where the stitching has let go while we were eating...... Otherwise it was a nice evening weather wise.

Buicknutty
I took the '41 to the local cruise night, where it garnered quite a bit of attention. A perfect evening in Scarborough, temp, humidity, all just right! A Riv that is often at these cruise ins was there, but I'm also added a few pictures of a 1978 Mustang II. A completely original car, bought new in Calgary Alberta, but has led a papered life in Toronto, since 1983, and the current owner bought it from the original owner only a year or so ago. It has less than 25,000 kms, documented, and that is well under 20,000 miles. You might notice the pop up sunroof, which was an Ford option, and it has a cover that goes into place in the headliner. The selling dealer's plate is kinda of neat, with the cowboy on one end, and an oil derrick on the other, two things that Alberta is famous for. As much as it seems nostalgic to drive a '37 sedan across country, I can only imagine the hardships in the heat in the closed car, in heavy rain storms, in todays "push you off the road traffic"! Then to have repairs afterwards on top of that really, sucks! Hope the repairs go easy.
dei
No pictures and not the weekend yet but took the car and wife for ride after dinner last night to cool off as the heat here has been in the upper 80's and low nineties during the day these last three days! So far the battery seems to be holding a charge nicely but noticed when driving over one particularly rough road section the ammeter was bouncing to discharge and charge till the road soothed out. Then, my turn signal column collar seemed to be loose and when I moved it, sure enough, the ammeter started jumping around! I promptly headed back to her garage and disconnected the battery before any possible fire took hold..... Will be pulling the steering wheel and see what is going on inside that turn signal area tonight as there is a fund raiser Car Show Saturday I was planning on attending. Buicknutty
Just getting caught up here. A few nights ago I took the '41 Buick to another cruise night and a friend was there with his '41 Special, so I was able to park beside him for a photo op. Also, amoungst many others, there was a neat little Nissan Figaro there. A 1991 model imported to Canada from Japan, which is why it is right hand drive, like cars from the UK. There is a company that imports cars from Japan and Europe into Canada, as when they pass a certain age they can be imported even though they didn't meet the regulations of the time. Malo48
Just got back from a rather serendipitous drive in my '41 - the local pizza shop owner had his '51 Roadmaster parked in front of the shop, so I stopped and we had a great chat about it, the '68 Wildcat he used to own, then went into his garage to see his '75 LeSabre convertible. We could have had a small Buick show right in front (and probably will in the future!) Here's the '51. 9 1

60FlatTop
Not the weekend, but I got in a good ride on a warm night with the top down on the Park ave. One of the fuel injectors had a slight leak in the body. That was a new one on me. And it even had a slight skip. A Rock Auto email came listing close-out parts for the car. A $50 injector was $20 including the shipping. 10 minutes after the mail came I was rolling. It came in a Federal Mogul box with Carter on the end flap. Maybe I will grab 5 more.
