2016 Buick Club of America 50th Anniversary Event

Recommended Posts

All,

The website for the 2016 BCA 50th is now live

http://www.buickclub.org/2016anniversary/

Also we have a new feature, online registration. I tried it out already and it is pretty slick and i think you will like it.

Please direct questions as per the registration form indicates as i do not have specific detailed information personally.

NOTE: Hotels will not take Reservations until August (inside of 1 year out)

Moderators if you would be so kind as to leave this in the Buick -General section until June15th before moving to Buick-events section it would be appreciated. Thanks,

Said it before, and I'll say it again. It is really sad that the BCA sees fit to promote next year's meet before this year's meet has even happened. It steals the thunder from this year's meet and no doubt makes some members postpone coming to this year's meet in favor of saving up for next year's. In years past, the BCA NEVER promoted the following year's meet until the current year's meet had been held and finished.

Pete you are correct. Please keep in mind the meets are no longer chapter run so thus one chapter is not "stealing" attendance from another but simply from one BCA run meet versus another. Registration for Springfield is closed and the BCA specifically waited for it to be closed before publishing the the website for '16 which has been ready for over a month.

That said attendance at Springfield is liter than normal and for our members in this area having a smaller show with less Buick's could be disappointing to them so you make a very valid point.

Having problems with the Hotel portion of the site.   The website won't open this portion.   Is there a PDF of this information?

The website has a link to the PDF. Please try it again?

A simple question that I believe deserves an answer and not to be continually deleted.  Why is there a registration fee for our cars for the 2016 national meet over and above the meet registration when there is no formal judging? It has always been the case that cars entering in the national meet pay an additional fee to help offset the cost of judging and trophies.  So this year there is no judging (another can of worms) so why the fee over and above registration to bring our cars?

Keith and others,

There will be tropheys and other goodies for cars that are registered along with something special only for people with cars.

Having a registration fee and a car fee with no judging  is not unusual as both the Flint meets had charges for cars with no judging.

2003 meet  - $30.00 Registration + $30.00 car

2008 meet  - $30.00 Registration + $30.00 car

Greetings and Salutations from the "organizer" of the 2016 Buick CELEBRATION.

It is NOT a National Meet. It is a 50th Anniversary Celebration.

There WILL be awards give out but not for each specific car-rather-special awards.

There are costs to running this meet that have to be covered so therefore, the cost of Registration.

May I help in any other way?

Good enough, thanks Bill

INDEED. Thanks Bill. I was just about to look back at my '03 and '08 issues of the Bugle to try and glean that info.

I somehow liked Bill's answer better. I understand there are costs to put on the meet, but why should the ones bringing the cars carry more of the load than no car attendee's. Wouldn't be much of a national (excuse me) anniversary (btw that doesn't sit well with me either) celebration without the Buick's there. Now the way Bill put it, he thought every car was going to get a special something, and the way I read how JB put, it that is not the case. Which is it? I'm okay with the extra registration fee for the car owners if we are getting a special keepsake such as the license plate from the hundredth anniversary celebration, but I call foul if not. We have been told from the beginning that this is a non-judged meet, if there are going to be special awards given out to certain cars and that makes it a judged meet as someone has to go around and choose those cars over other cars. So that just opens that can of worms on that meet not being judged.

In the "Buick Anniversary" meet in Flint in '88, a non-judged BCA meet, there WERE awards, but not from BCA operatives. The awards were recognition awards from civic leaders in Flint, hotel managers in Flint, union operatives in Flint, etc.  No different than a local show held at a Buick dealer where one of the awards is the "Dealer's Choice" award or awards presented in the name of show sponsors.

On Pete's and Brian's comments above, even in the earlier years, we knew where "the next" BCA meet was going to be well before the current year's meet took place.  This would allow members to decide if they wanted to plan on attending or "sit one out".  What did NOT happen was the promotion of that "next year" BCA meet until after the current year's meet's awards banquet.  People from the "next year" host chapter would be in the foyer with meet information and registration forms, plus some handouts and goodies to take with you.

Granted, this year's meet registration deadline has passed, but it's still possible for some registered for this year to make a decision to "sit one out" (although already registered, confirmed, and paid for) at their discretion.  Still, these decisions could have been made in '88 as well as in 2015.

I understand Brian's orientation, also.  It's good that the website was "laying in waiting" a good while before it went live.  I also understand the desire to get things up and running as soon as possible, which can be a pride in what's been done issue.  TWO valid points of view!

On the subject of the cost of the Hospitality Room:  When Buicks Were Fine in 99, I/we allowed free access to soda and water in the Hospitality Room. Members took "scoops of drinks" filled their coolers (it was hot) and I paid $30, 000 out of my pocket - yes you are reading it correctly, to make sure folks were HAPPY.  Happiness is a Cool drink on a hot dat.

On the subject of Host Hotel in Allentown: The Renaissance is the Host Hotel BUT, there are MANY hotels to chose from with a wide price range.

On the subject of a gift in Allentown?  Everyone  LOVES a surprise and there will be many!

On the subject of early Registration before the Springfield Meet?  Registration for Springfield is CLOSED.

What Exactly will the additional registration that the car owners are paying provide over the standard registration without a car?

Keith, I too am interested in hearing answers to some of your and others concerns. I think Jeff is trying to be nice and help answer our questions. I read and reread your last post and I think it would help if you would be more brief and to the point with your questions and cut some of the antagonistic and superfluous dialogue. The gentleman is TRYING to be helpful.  I'm not reprimanding you Keith, I'm JUST SAYIN!!!

We are operating the 2016 Buick Celebration in close contact and cooperation with the fine folks that support Nicola Bulgari in the United States.

During the past three years, we have had many planning sessions to provide THE BEST experience to members of the Buick Club of America.

There will be many "surprises" in Allentown that will take place.

When the Celebration is over, THEN you can let me/us know if the value you received was commensurate with the Registration cost.

See you in Allentown!   JB

Ok, I changed my post to keep it brief and to the point.  With the latest answer I am not seeing "helpful"  -  It's obvious the BCA has little to do with this "celebration"

The question asked seems to be:  what exactly does one get for the x-tra $25.00  to register a car?  The answer seems to be "many surprises".   Telling what the surprises are makes them no longer a surprise.  It appears the decision to be made now is pay the $25.00 for the surprises and go on blind faith, or don't pay the $25.00.

Jeff, you sound like my mom when I use to ask what I was getting for my birthday. Answer was always "It's a surprise". Good enough then, and given the 3 years planning and knowing some of the people involved with  this Celebration, good enough now.  I for one am looking forward to this event and will be there. Thanks Jeff for all your hard work in helping plan and coordinate this great event.

Been to the movies lately, $25 will barely get you in and a bag of popcorn and cola. I sorta suspect we will be treated to a bit more than a movie and popcorn for the 25 bucks to add a car. If these guys want to throw a party and invite the BCA the more power to them.

If you have ever met or worked with Jeff Brashares or Nicola Bulgari then you know what kind of people they are.  Both of them love Buicks and the Buick Club of America and I have no doubt they will put their best effort forward to make the 50th Anniversary a special event to remember.  Just bring your Buick to participate and enjoy the celebration along with other BCA members from around the world.  You won't regret it.

Based on what I have seen so far,  it appears the format will be similar to Flint 03 & 08,  Ames IA,  where everything was held at one site and members stayed at the hotel of their choice.

It would be a nightmare if the host hotel had some of the meeting and the Bulgari site had others,  people would be shuttling continuously.

Jeff,  please say that everything will be at the Bulgari site.

I concur with TxBuicks and Mr. Earl . . . better to sign up for "The $25.00 deal" for vehicle registration as I highly suspect it'll be a more memorable investment than a fancy steak dinner,  a movie (both of which can be easily forgotten after a week, or sooner), OR about 8 gallons of gas exiting your vehicle's exhaust pipe.  NOT a whole lot of modern money to gamble, all things considered.

The current plan is that the daily events will take place at the Bulgari site.

The Thursday Cruise In will take place to/from and at Dorney Park.

The Buick Heritage Alliance dinner will take place at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center.

The Saturday grand finale will be a buffet in the Park.

There may be groups that wish to meet offsite and we have rooms set aside at the Renaissance which folks may use....or not..     JB

 Guess nobody cares?

Peter Gariepy is testing the registration software before handing over to the registrar. I suggest sending him a PM. He may not be watching this thread.

I would be more than happy to follow up with him myself if you would prefer.

Thanks,
