Today I needed some posi lube for my Corvette so I went to my local NAPA store, then to Autozone, O'Reilly's, Pep Boys, even my local GM dealer asking them all for some "big slip daddy fluid".  They all stared at me like I had antlers growing out of my head... except for the old guy working the counter at the Chevy dealership.  He called security and had me escorted off the property.

Another silly word in car-for-sale ads is "Wow."

Is the seller really that excited about his car

that he writes down the exclamation?

If so, wouldn't he be more inclined to keep the car?

Or is he trying to create false enthusiasm in a

prospective buyer?

 

I appreciate sellers who are genuine, honest, realistic

in their pricing, and thorough in their ad text!

I stand corrected. Raised has been misused by many for Razed and I fell into the same trap. Thank you for educating me and causing me to look up both words. WOW......haha

And I always like to hear when a noteworthy old property has been restored.

 

Even better, maintain a building so it doesn't have to be razed or restored.

No, I thought only the M22 was the 'Rock Crusher' because it was designed to that the torque of the GM big block.

I cut and pasted this from my comment on the 770K on Bring a Trailer.  What ever happened to "best to remain silent and be thought the fool then open ones mouth and remove all doubt".

 

This is public service announcement. The three most trite comments you can make are:

1. Associating Hitler or Nazis with every single prewar Mercedes that show up for sale.

2. Assuming Jay Leno wants to buy every interesting car that comes up.

3. Associating all prewar sedans with “gangsters”.

This car has only hit on 2 of the 3. I eagerly awaiting the last comment.

When I ordered the F-41 Ride & Handling Package  with the new 1969 Pontiac Custom"S",

I custom ordered quite a few things not generally associated with a mid-size family sedan, but more in keeping with my racing, and sports car preferences - keeping my upcoming marriage and family plans in mind. 

Along with the Pontiac (not Chevy) 350 ci, M-400 Tranny, limited slip differential, Rally Gauge Package, Disc brakes, Variable ratio Power Steering I specified the F-41 Ride & Handling Package. The heavier front anti-sway bar, along with stiffer springs and shock absorbers along with an immediate swap to Michelin radial tires, made the 4-door sedan corner more like a sports car. The rear was improved by addition of the F-40 Package as a Trailering Option.

 

For a 4-door sedan, that Pontiac would really "Handle".

 

PS: The color was Mayfair Maize, a pale yellow, but is was absolutely NOT a Lemon, driving some 435,xxx miles before being donated to a friend.

Why didn't you order the Police Package?   

 

About the only item not part of the police package would have been the Rally Gauge Package.

November 1968, I ordered my H-O LeMans a 354" with high compression #48 Big valve heads (2.11" intake and 1.77" exhaust valves) 330HP with a THM400 and 3.23 Safety Track. I picked it up just before Christmas 1968. Still have it. It still has its original vinyl top and interior.

The local dealer would not allow me to order the Police Package, knowing me and my family, and that I wasn't actually "Law Enforcement",

We got into a serious discussion over that and I almost pulled the order, but was planning to move south and didn't have the time

A serious answer to a tongue-in-cheek question:

Because a parkway was intended to be like a 

beautiful park.

 

A true parkway, as produced in the early 20th century,

had a park-like environment as its focus.  The grounds

on the sides of the roadway were often manicured and

green, even with some garden areas;  and the bridges

were architecturally designed to look beautiful.  The word

is not a synonym for freeway.

 

Similarly, any "Park Avenue" typically had a wide median

between the lanes--to serve as an attractive green space

or narrow park.  New York City's Park Avenue once had

a wider median, with landscaping, a winding sidewalk and

gardens, and park benches.  That median was later

narrowed for traffic.

There are quite a few "lingos-you-hate" mentioned.  Some I never heard of.  

But this I do not understand.  Why would an internal engine NOT be called a motor? Hasn't it always been a motor and hasn't it always been called a motor?  I have seldom or never heard:

engine oil

engine mounts

engine city

Ford engine company

engine head (as in he is a motor head)

etc.

Why is "motor" amateurish?  

Help me out here

In the early 1970's I asked a Ford salesman if I could order the Interceptor (police) Package on a brand new Torino.  He said yes, it was available to the public.    Perhaps it was at the discretion of the dealer whether they would order a private individual a police package car.

Most people in the dealership including a sales manager in the 50's, 60's, 70's didn't know about some of the things you could order. My dad and I both ordered or cars out of the zone office.
