Buicknutty Posted July 3, 2016 Share Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) We took the '56 Buick out to a cruise night tonight, just a bit out town, about a half hour's drive each way. A really lovely night to be out. We get so much lousy weather here that it is so nice be out and about, and not battling against the bad weather. A very nice '65 Riv parked near us, and it had wheel covers so much like the ones on the Electra, except for the centre emblem. Also, I took a few pictures of a Nash Metropolitan. dship Posted July 3, 2016 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Got rear ended in my 92 Riviera on the way home from the ROA National meet. Happened in NJ in stop and go traffic on the highway next to an exit ramp. Somewhat of a small tap but enough to push in the bumper absorbers thus creasing the side impact rubber. Buicknutty Posted July 8, 2016 Share Posted July 8, 2016 I've been driving the '56 Roadmaster quite a bit, what with it being at the house, and then the modern Buick had to go into the shop for some work, so that was my ride for the day. Also, I took it to a couple of local cruise nights this week. My friend's '53 Caddy, recently on the road after a long restoration, the colour rendition on the full side is more accurate than the close up. A Vet that was nearly the same shade as my Castle Grey Buick, only a bit darker. I didn't get to talk to the owner, but I think that it must of been a stock colour. The Manitoba Classic & Antique Auto Club was one of the featured clubs, so we were able to park together. For a time, we were the only Buicks there, but eventually '65 and '67 Riviera showed up, a '72 GS, a '54 LeSabre convertible (I've seen the car before, but couldn't find it after seeing it drive into the lot) were there as well as a Skylark convertible that was outside the show area. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

SpecialEducation Posted July 12, 2016 Share Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) Big downtown car show this weekend. 800-ish cars. Not many Buicks, but chatted up the owner of a couple nice Opels. Made a banner and threw across the back seat; it started a lot of conversations. Dad won his 3rd award at this show, and the GT its first. Sure hope to see those Opels again. Three tribute cars, the General Lee, Starksy and Hutch Torino, and a Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am, A nice '73 Riv GS that I had never seen before, my car and a couple of other Buicks, with a '48 Monarch mixed in. Plus one of a varmint in our backyard. Sorry, a few pictures wouldn't upload. I'll try tomorrow. First 100 miles so far so good. Fine tuning the automatic choke but other than that its running great. I always thought it would be fun to have a collection of TV/film tribute cars, although I'd swap that Torino for a Beetle named Ocho. Of course, a brown '74 Century is on the list. JZRIV Posted July 14, 2016 Share Posted July 14, 2016 Thanks John - I was surprised to get questioned at the ROA meet about if color was an original 66 Riv color and am sure some viewing this may also be wondering. It is shadow turquoise and was rather uncommon in 66 as white and earth tones were in vogue hence this was originally a light gold car. Buicknutty Posted July 21, 2016 Share Posted July 21, 2016 I had the Electra out to a local cruise night last (Wed) night and after a few adjustments, it is running good. My wife had had a tough day at work doing a training session, so she came with me, and won the 50/50 draw! I've bought tickets for years, and never won it. It was a nice night here in Toronto, in advance of another heat wave, at least that's what its called here, temps are predicted to be in the 90F and 90+F range for a few days, so lots of folks were out enjoying the weather. No pictures of the Electra, so you'll have to trust me on that, but I took a picture of an interesting line up of cars that I have never seen there before. A 74 or 75 Eldorado, an LTD of similar vintage, and an MG TD, I think, finished in British Racing Green, with tan interior. I really like these little English cars, and have sometimes thought about buying one. For now though I'll just enjoy looking! Cheaper too. Buicknutty Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 I took the '41 Roadmaster out to the storage facility I share with a buddy early this afternoon, but was hot, nearly 95 F, and I hit a lot of traffic, so the engine built a lot of heat, over 210F at one point. The worse problem was when I was in moving traffic again, it had cooled to just under 200, and going up a slight incline, in traffic, on a major highway, it started to lose power, till I finally had to pull over and it stalled. Fortunately, the shoulder was wide and I was well off of a live lane. Also, my wife was following me and pulled in behind me. I let it cool for about 10 mins, and it started up quite easily, and I tried to drive, but it would not pull, ie no power, and I made it about a 1/4 mile on the shoulder and had to stop again. I let it cool again, then poured water across the rad from the top, and also over the coil. It was not boiling over, though quite hot, but I wondered if the coil was breaking down due to the heat. This time it worked, I was able to pull back onto the highway and it ran well at 55, which was what the traffic stream was traveling at. We pulled off at the next exit and we took secondary roads, through some towns and such the rest of the way. It held temp at about 190F the rest of the way, except when going through towns, but otherwise I was driving the speed limit of 50 MPH. Put her to bed for a few weeks and came home. A little linkage adjustment and need to do some other checks. She sure drew a crowd. Noone had ever seen her! Mark Shaw Posted July 24, 2016 Share Posted July 24, 2016 (edited) I took my 38 Special on the Centennial Gorge Antique Car Tour yesterday. Drove from Vancouver WA to Troutdale OR for a pancake breakfast, to Crown Point, Hood River OR, The Dalles OR on America's first scenic highway 30, and back across the Columbia River to return home on HWY 14. The OR Dept of Transportation sponsored the event and provided escort vehicles at key intersections to block traffic for about 70 prewar cars. It was a long day and we had not issues other than a short wait to cool off the engine after stopping for gas. It wouldn't re-start for about five minutes due to vapor lock. Late afternoon temperatures were in the upper 80's at the east end of the gorge, but in the low 70's when we returned home. KAD36 Posted July 26, 2016 Share Posted July 26, 2016 Been driving between 100-120 miles a day every day the past week to get the new engine all "broken in" before Allentown. Fixed some annoying rattles, got a fresh coat of wax on the chrome and rain-x on the windshield. Good to be back on the road.
