While the background car is a '56 Buick, and may, or may not be involved in the collision,

Closer exam makes me believe the wrecked car in the foreground is a 1957 Pontiac Chieftain

Look at the script on the front fender,

as well as the grille:

Was this a Buick?

A 1933 model, but a couple of years old, wearing a 1935 Massachusetts license plate?

Maybe the smile is for having survived hitting his head on the windshield?

Looks like kids from a school glad that the principal’s car was damage!

Hi Rivnut,

Per your question: "I looked at some pictures on Google images and thought it was a '34.  What are the distinguishing differences between the '33 and '34 years?

Thanks, Ed"

1934 & almost identical 1935 grille is split at center, wider at bottom, bumper has center dip, mascot is on center strip instead of radiator cap, no running lights on front fenders.

I Will add pics when my laptop comes back to life.

Pics of 1934 added

Buick wins!!

😉😆🤐

Now, how would you get them apart without more damage?

Back the Ford up with the wheels turned hard to the left and drive the Buick forward at the same time with the wheels turned hard to the right?

Looks like the Buick is in need of a new front bumper and bumper bracket at the very least.

Nah !!

Just turn the Buick's steering wheel to the hard right and roll it forward - possibly have to move the Ford slightly straight ahead at the same time.

rammed him through the concrete wall 😬

There’s not much damage visible to the front end. Maybe old James was a big, round, soft old gent. Also note that the wife apparently found the brakes once Jimmy was outside. Smells fishy.
