The asking price was $17,000, but I kept in touch with the seller (in Penna.), and the car sold late that year for $13,000. However, in my younger days I would not be as appreciative of the body style of this vehicle for sale. I prefer the 1932, 1933, and 1934 models. The price offered at $12,000 appears very releasable for a vehicle that appears to be dent free and has what appears to be good bright-work. What can you buy today for $12,000 ? At the rate of inflation these days $12,000 will soon be worth $1,200 and my retirement age will have to be re-calculated to 98 years old. Hudsy Wudsy Posted June 15, 2022 Share Posted June 15, 2022 (edited) In case you didn't know, the radio is behind that fold-down "tambor" door in the center of the dash. I always thought that was a silly useless detail, but it made for a clean uncluttered look to the dash. Nash promoted a foot-operated pushbutton switch which, when pressed, would advance the radio tuner to the next station, so a person could hunt for stations without raising the little door. I recall that Hudson offered the same option in the forties, but I don't think that I have ever seen that feature on a Step Down Hudson. That six Is no Hornet, power-wise, but it has seven main bearings. I honestly think that it's a shame that they can't command better prices these days than they do. Some of you might enjoy reading the brief Wiki article about them. It is now almost January of 2023 and I am still trying to get the car registered and titled here in California. New York changed the Vin number to this car way back in the 50's or 60's and also do not title cars older than 1972 so it is turning into a problem that California can't seem to get a handle on. The Vin on the car no longer matches the Vin on the renewable registration but the DMV here tells me they will get to the bottom of it hopefully in a few more weeks. StillOutThere Posted December 29, 2022 Share Posted December 29, 2022 When I lived in CA over 20 years ago, I had trouble over a antique VIN and Sacto said they would get it straightened out. Filled out multiple forms to them. Local DMV inspection, CHP inspection, everything they asked. Then NOTHING from Sacto for a YEAR. I demanded the paperwork all back and got it. I went to a "dealer title service" business (specializing new and used car dealers) and explained the problem. He asked how I wanted the title to read and it came in about 3 weeks in the mail and was LEGAL. Unless things have changed drastically, the CA DMV is totally grossly incompetent. It seemed that some Dealers in NYS registered the car with the engine number when sold new and some with the VIN, until around 1957-58. Very inconsistent to say the least.
