  1. I bought two Corvairs in about 1972 for $20.00 total. The '64 Monza I fixed up and my wife/then girlfriend drove it another 50,000 miles before we parted with it. Fun car with 4 on the floor. We put radial tires on it and it would go through any depth of snow fall. Lots of good memories.
  2. You guys are better than me. I lost count the number of cars & trucks that I have owned over my life to this point in time. And that does not even count the hundreds of company cars that I had when I was still working.
  3. It was a great time for most all of us baby boomers. All of the things we could do without supervision by just "go outside and play" stuff we did it is a miracle that any of us survived compared to today's bubble wrapped kids. It was a great time of imagination where we did not have the diversion of electronics and could expand our imaginations and learn lessons that would last a lifetime. My car stuff besides working on cars with my Dad at that age, I participated in the Fisher Body Craftsman guild and built two cars that I still have. Good memories.
  4. I am planning on being there some time during the weekend with a friend. Trying to fit in with other commitments at this time. This is the first time I will have been there. Any suggestions?
  5. They look just like the growth of pick up trucks in the last 20-30 years. Every update gets bigger.
  6. Howard, I would put money down that your axle is a Weston-Mott axle. Looks identical to the early Buicks that I have. Might look for some Buick parts/used parts to get you going. Look here, there is one on Ebay for $100.00 that might work. You will need to take some measurements. If you can send me some exact measurements on pictures I can take a look and see if I have some parts.
  7. The Model T Clubs have done a coast to coast progressive tour in both 2008 and I believe 2018 or '19. That was with a group of I believe 50 cars. I am hoping they do it again in 2028. Below is a video of a group from Germany doing a coast to coast trip. Here is a link of one of these experiences by a group from Germany.
  8. Being the other Larry, I would not trust compression fittings.
  9. I disagree with your statement. All of the lights on your trailer run off the 12 volt car battery and they do not burn out the wiring. If you are burning out the wires in your trailers you have a short somewhere in the system. Putting in a smaller battery just runs dead quicker because of the smaller energy capacity of the battery. The only place that might cause the wires to melt are the two wires that go to the trailer brakes. If the emergency switch pin was pulled and left out it might be possible but unlikely that the wires would melt as they are usually larger than the wires for the trailer lights. The wires go to an coil magnet that is sized with the proper resistance to have the correct voltage drop without melting wires. If you are melting wires with a car size battery look for the short in the system. I personally use a marine battery in my trailer so I have enough capacity to power the winch and interior lights. By the way, nice trailer.
  10. I agree except I was always taught to get maximum vacuum and then back it off a couple of degrees so you do not need to worry about spark knock.
  11. The easiest engine exchange is if the car has a 3.8 V-6 in it, then get another 3.8 V-6 to replace it. Less stuff to worry about and an easier hook up. Just IMO
  12. IMO, does not look like too hard of a repair. Just need to get a wiring diagram and trace the circuits to get the correct wires connected. Just be sure to solder the wires after connecting so you have a good worry free electrical connections.
  13. Not a turn signal switch. It is a high beam/low beam foot switch that was used up to about 1980 +- depending on the car line. It was located on the left side of the driver foot well area next to the kick panel.
  14. Absolutely true. I have breakfast with him every Thursday morning along with some other car guys.
  15. I have a friend that drove a 1912 Winton from Detroit to Yellowstone and back a few years ago. I also have another friend that drove a 1929 Buick from Toronto to Washington state and back last summer. That IMO is a long distance drive.
  16. The V6 even fire and especially the 3800 engines were basically bullet proof when the regular maintenance was done. Most common problem is customers would not change the oil. I inspected one car when I was a rep, about a 1981 that the engine locked up at about 32,000 miles. It had the original oil filter on it and the customer eventually admitted that he did not change the oil because it was on a 36,000 mile lease and commented "why waste the money on oil changes". He paid for the engine repair.
  17. Dean also has a book out on carburation.
  18. KDKA in Pittsburgh was before that. I believe it is the only station east of the Mississippi that has a K first letter in the station identification. November 2, 1920 On October 27, 1920, the Department of Commerce issued the first commercial radio station license under the call sign KDKA. On November 2, 1920, Leo Rosenberg broadcast the Harding-Cox presidential election returns, marking the first broadcast by a licensed radio station. Under the call sign KDKA, Pittsburgh's Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company transmitted the first scheduled broadcast on Nov. 2, 1920. KDKA's Leo Rosenberg announced live returns of the Presidential election between Warren G. Harding and James Cox.
  19. Good road car if sorted out well and brought back up to factory specifications.
  20. I agree with Joe that it has a Cadillac look including the rear hub caps. Can't tell about the front ones. Might be damaged. Not sure on year.
  21. I now tow with at 3/4 ton Silverado with the 6.6L Diesel. It has an 18,500 pound towing capacity. The biggest issue is that you need to keep reminding yourself that there is a trailer behind you. The truck does not even know you have a car & trailer that you are towing.
