  1. Some more links to the re-do of the old train station. Lots of excitement here in Detroit. https://michigancentral.com https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2024/06/03/see-before-and-after-photos-of-restoration-at-detroits-michigan-central-station/ https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/michigan-central-station-opens-this-june https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/michigan-central-station-opens-this-june
  2. For those of you that get the Wall Street Journal, In today's paper in case you missed it commutes are getting longer. https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/workplace/americas-commute-to-work-is-getting-longer-and-longer-0fbf79c3?mod=wknd_pos1 Headlines for the article and a couple of sentences of the article. America’s Commute to Work Is Getting Longer and Longer Drives to the office that take over an hour are becoming more common—and even more palatable By Anne Marie Chaker June 3, 2024 9:00 pm ET The American worker is making peace with a longer ride. Big shifts in the way people live and work are making commutes of over an hour into the office more common—and even more palatable. Rising housing costs have prompted many to move farther away from city centers, while the staying power of hybrid work means they don’t have to drive into work every day. The share of super commutes—those 75 miles or longer—have grown the most and are up by nearly a third since 2020, according to new research from Stanford University. And the story continues.
  3. For finding leaks, use the dye that can be seen with an ultraviolet light. Easy & high success rate. Here pick one depending if the system is open (with a hose not connected) or all closed up and has been evacuated. https://www.google.com/search?q=ac+refrigerant+with+uv+dye+kit&client=opera&hs=y0w&sca_esv=b061e2632347ae6b&sxsrf=ADLYWIIHFNh8T7QMbdOTCop0EbKRg0HrlA%3A1717521703225&ei=J01fZs-2DdamptQP9fmU2Qw&oq=a%2Fc+dye&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiB2EvYyBkeWUqAggAMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHMgoQABiwAxjWBBhHSPEjUABYAHABeAGQAQCYAQCgAQCqAQC4AQHIAQCYAgGgAgWYAwCIBgGQBgiSBwExoAcA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=a%2Fc+dye&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
  4. Personal preference and a lot of it depends on how big of a person that you are and what your comfort levels require.
  5. The condenser is in front of the radiator and the evaporator core is in the passenger compartment. To fix an old A/C system the first thing to do is to see if it is still charged. If it is still holding refrigerant then the problem is probably electrical or maybe mechanical. If there is no pressure in the system, then you will need to find the leak. This is usually done by putting in a small amount of refrigerant along with a florescent dye that can be seen using a ultra violet light. Fix the leak and many times you will fix the system. There are some other things that probably need to be replaced along with the defective part and that includes the receiver-dryer and the orifice if the system has one. Always on old systems look at the hoses closely for any deterioration. Especially look in areas where the hoses might run close to exhaust manifolds, etc.. Replace as necessary.
  6. 10 hours ago, CarNucopia said: Growth slowing is not a decrease, its a smaller increase. They are taking lessons from the federal government where budget reductions means less of an increase.???
  7. In the Detroit area we are having burglar gangs from Chile targeting homes in nicer areas. Usually homes in nice subs backing up to natural areas. https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/sheriff-chilean-gangs-are-back-targeting-high-end-homes-for-burglaries-in-oakland-county https://www.police1.com/organized-crime/mich-le-agencies-brace-for-more-burglaries-by-south-american-crime-tourists I am on the HOA for our sub and I would report anything out of the ordinary. Just common sense in my world. PS: And I do not live in one of those homes that the reports are talking about.
  8. I would have probably called 911 and gotten the license plate number. Cell phone pictures also come in handy when talking to the police.
  9. Yup, that what we do. Usually put about 2,000 miles/year on the '13 Buick and many miles on the other cars/trucks.
  10. We took the '13 out for a drive yesterday as it was a beautiful day. Drove to the grandsons baseball games, the store and finally for an ice cream. Put on about 65 miles. Getting ready to go on another tour this month.
  11. I used to drive those type of truck when I was on the FD.
  12. We were in Thailand in January and even saw some MG trucks. https://www.rushlane.com/2021-mg-extender-pickup-gets-updated-12396828.html
  13. Is it an oiler or an air pump for some of the vehicles that had positive pressure fuel tanks before fuel pumps. Looks more like an air pump.
  14. If you can find a similar brand car of the era, the seats might just bolt right in. In the 60's and probably into the 80's & later the seats in a full size GM car like a Buick, Cadillac, etc.. would bolt directly into a full size pick up truck. No modifications necessary.
  15. American Cemetery at Normandy above Omaha Beach landing on D-Day. I have been there and it is a significant emotional event.
  16. IMO, modern antifreezes are fine for any and all cars except the new OAT antifreeze which is purple. The OAT which stands for Organic Acid Technology is currently being reviewed in my mind as to it's use in the old cars. Look here for more info on OAT antifreeze. https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=oat+antifreeze+meaning&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 Modern antifreeze/coolants have a chemistry to prevent corrosion between dis-similar metals along with water pump lubricants and anti corrosion inhibitors. I put typically the fluorescent yellow like Prestone in my cars because it is the most available for the best prices.

  18. Pictures posted here would help a lot
  19. Something that you might think about. A couple of weeks ago I was having a problem with our T and it just would not run right. All of the coils buzzed when turned over, but it ran like crap. The car had four rebuilt coils, so I thought they should be good. How we(also a friend of mine) found the problem was to take all four plugs out and connect them to the coil wires with sparkplugs shell grounded to the head. We slowly turned the engine over and looked at the quality of the spark on the four plug when each of them was sparking. There was one that showed a weaker spark than the other three. Changed that coil and voila, the car now runs great. Just at thought.
  20. I had a '63 Skylark wagon. It had an electrical gremlin and it turned out to be the red positive wire that went through the dash on the drivers side going to the fuse box got skinned and corroded. It caused a high resistance in the wire. After I tracked it down and did a wire repair, car fixed. My symptoms were the car would start/run in the start position using the key. As soon as the key was put in the run position the car/engine would turn off.
