crowvet Posted August 12, 2020 Share Posted August 12, 2020 I like to mix up the tires and wheels on my cars every now and then. My 65 has the Buick Rally wheels or what some call road wheels on it. I like them, but am bored. Post pictures of your wheel and tire combos. Not currently on the Riviera but with the 5 on 5 bolt pattern, it's easy to play tire swap with the Roadmaster wagon. 245/45ZR20 tires on Boss wheels. Ed, seems as though some serious calculations or serious measuring to make sure large tires and wider wheels will fit on first gen Rivieras. First is my 64 with the 64 Buick Wildcat Rallys (or Road Wheels sometimes called) with BFG Advantage Plus 225/75r15 whitewalls. Second is my 64 with US Mag Rambler 17 x 7 with 225/60r17 DB Redlines front, 17 x 8 with 255/55r17 DB Redlines rear, also using .250 spacer up front and .875 bolt on spacer (adapter) rear. Don't really need the rear spacer, but liked the look. My third which is not doable yet ($$$) is to run the rally wheels (6" width) up front with DB Redlines and rally wheels (7"width) in the rear with DB Redlines. Because of the increased back space. That is why the .875 spacer. Art If you look at the specs of the 71 - 78 wheels, there is an additional 1/2" of back spacing in them. I would have to imagine that because the 6" 895 code wheels on my Roadmaster wagon fit well and the original Roadmaster wheels are 7", there is no way that they would fit on a first generation Riviera. The Boss wheels have the offset and back spacing to work but they are tight in the wheel wells on the Riviera. I get some inner fender rub on the Roadmaster with the Boss wheels when backing out of my driveway and the drive-over curb when I have to back out at full lock. The guy across the street thinks the best place to park his truck is directly across from my driveway. 😡 These are the 15 x 7 aluminum wheels with the 5 on 5 bolt pattern that came stock on the Roadmaster. Can anyone imagine what they would look like on a 1st generation Riviera? Anyone out there do Photoshop? awk409ak Posted August 13, 2020 Share Posted August 13, 2020 Hi Ed, In a previous post in July 2019, we discuss wheel fitment when I tried to put Wildcat station wagon rally wheels on the rear of the 64 Riv. I had wheel drum interference. The wheel was hitting the od of the drum before the mounting surface. The station wagon rally wheel being 7" has a 4 5/16 BS, while a stock 6" rally wheel is 3 7/16 BS. I think that red lines on a white car would look outstanding, but red line tires were not an option on the 1965, you had to wait a year. Please believe that I'm saying there's anything wrong with Winston's car. It's just a matter of preference. Ray Knott had a 65 Gran Sport that had a red pinstripe along a body line. Not stock, but it looked really good. Red line tires would have set off his pinstripe. Especially if his interior was red. If your car has some color interior that would clash with red, like blue, I wouldn't do it. MHO. The center part was a silver color not the later charcoal color and had a Wildcat cap. They were originally a black background with the chrome cat. Mine are faded. RivNut Posted August 16, 2020 Share Posted August 16, 2020 I made these caps from 66 - 70 ribbed caps and some aluminium centers I found on Ebay then mounted on some code 895 wheels from a 71 - 78. No tape, no glue, no flimsy plastic. They are mounted on my 94 Roadmaster wagon. (I was excited about everthing going together and didn't wash the tires and wheels before taking the picture, my bad.) The wheel covers I like MOST are cast aluminum Turbines with appropriate emblem for the year car. HOWEVER, I've seen semi custom first gen Rivieras with subdued colors and beautiful paint job with black walls and custom designed wheels that are outstanding. If you wanted blue lines on your car and tastefully done they would look great. The problem and or challenge is we are trying to personalize one of the eight best cars Buick ever built. In my opinion only, It's hard to add to a classic design and make it better. It is done and anyone can personalize their Riviera to their own liking. One of my pals indicated the American Classic Auburn Radial Bias look 710 R 15 I have looked like regular modern radial tires. The gent went on to mention I'm changing the character of my car while all along he has a vinyl top on his Riviera- which I think looks sharp. Bottom line it will look good if tastefully done. I have only seen them with the black around the chrome cat and chrome outer ring. And yes like Ed said the fingers holds the cap on the wheel.
