Brooklyn Beer Posted September 12, 2019 Share Posted September 12, 2019 I tip my hat to all of you. Here I worry about driving my 49 Buick 50 miles and wondering what i will do if a break down. The confidence you have in your 100 year old cars is inspiring ! In two weeks I take possession of my 1931 Franklin that I bought with the goal in mind to tour with when life slows down. When driving in the rain, just sing the song "Dancing in the rain" It is all fun. Also, it helps to have a AAA premium membership even though we have not had to use it yet. Remember the motto of the old car driving club is "drive it, break it, fix it, repeat" That is all part of the adventure. On the "stuff happens" , when we were getting ready to leave Thursday morning the brake pedal was almost to the floor. Turned out the brake return spring broke. Just like "in the day" a piece of "bailing wire & pliers" fixed the problem until I got home to install a new spring. Back in the day Dad used his Overland as much as he could and in this shot he was driving the bride and groom from the church to the Reception when... It's OK Dad, it's only flat on the bottom. We are in the 1912 Buick Model 34 roadster....following the white Model T Ford. On Wednesday 9/11/2019, we dressed in red white & blue. Many like us, had flags on our cars in respect to those who lost their lives and in recognition for the first responders that day. We made the 200+ mile round trip to the "Riviera's in the Park" picnic in Archdale, NC today. We had 9 Rivieras in attendance today, 63, 64, 65, 68, 69, 70, 93, 95, & 99. Bill Stoneberg Posted September 15, 2019 Share Posted September 15, 2019 We went a gathering of cars yesterday afternoon. Not a show, just folks with cars they like to have seen. I took the 60 Electra and was of the only Buicks. It was in a nice shady park along the riverfront and there may have been 200 + cars. It was nicely arranged with all the classic cars in the shade and the newer cars i the parking lot in the sun. I parked next to a guy who had a 66 GTO with a 389 and 3 deuces. He got lots of lookers. I got the old people talking to me, the comments that "we had one of these" and "I ll bet you could take a couple of people in the trunk to the Drive in Theater. A fun relaxing Saturday evening. dship Posted September 15, 2019 Share Posted September 15, 2019 Attended a Cars n' Coffee at Herb Chambers Lexus dealership in Hingham, MA this morning at the ungodly hour of 6:30am to 9:30am. Took the '91 Reatta. Must of been 300 cars with the majority being young kids' turbo'd BMW's, Nissan's, Toyota's, etc...only one Buick (mine) and two pre-war (1 Packard, 1 Plymouth). There was one whole row each of fairly new Corvette's and Mustangs, though. The dealership had on hand a row of 12/5 high 1 dozen Dunkin' Donut boxes and 6 10gal coffee urns, plus 2 free Herb Chambers ceramic mugs as a gift per attendee. Larry Schramm Posted September 16, 2019 Share Posted September 16, 2019 (edited) Brooklyn Beer, The maintenance and repairs run in spurts. On the '13, you never need to change the oil. It is a lost waste oil system and changes the oil it's self. Just keep the 1 gallon reservoir full and watch the oil meter on the dash. Usually goes through about 100 miles per quart. You need to oil the rockers, push rods, etc about every 25 miles according to the owners manual. Always check the rest of the fluids and grease all the grease points. There were a bunch of grease cups on the car but I have been exchanging them for zerk fittings to make greasing the car easier. I keep all of the old grease cups in a jar on the shelf. This is their 2nd year doing it and it is growing, mostly later model but all are welcome. Great charity check out his story on his website, he is doing some great work. Only 6 Buicks, counting mine. Sad to say that they announced would be their last show there if no younger people step up, join their club and help out planning and running the show. dei Posted September 20, 2019 Share Posted September 20, 2019 Not the weekend yet but went out for ice cream again after supper. It's about 10 miles to a place known as North Ridge. No pictures (forgot camera in the truck) but found the place busy. Soft ice cream melts fast so grabbed lots of napkins and a table under the shelter not wanting to drip in the car... The biggie was a couple of days ago when we drove back to our old area for one of the last cruise nights of the season, a total of about 220 miles round trip. Then today was such a nice day, that I took it out with a top down for a cruise, only about 20 miles, so that pales to the trip to Toronto. Matt Harwood Posted September 22, 2019 Share Posted September 22, 2019 (edited) So the Ohio Region of the Classic Car Club of America called and asked Melanie to plan a September driving event (they also asked her to run the Father's Day car show and plan the October driving event, plus all the tech seminars during the winter) so she stepped up like she always does and arranged lunch at a restaurant and a nice drive on a two-lane to the Ravenna Hot Air Balloon Festival, which was pretty darned cool. Over the last few weeks, she spent a few hours on the phone and we drove the route last week to make sure that it was good for all ages of old cars. We took the '41 Limited since it's our go-to Full Classic and a great runner. We arrived at the restaurant at 1:00 with the plan to travel in a group to the Festival at 2:00 where Melanie had pre-arranged parking for a group of Full Classics. Here's how it went: Ohio Region Classic Car Club Full Classics lined up at lunch, ready to go. Special parking area for Ohio Region Classic Car Club members. Oh, wait, since there was just one car, they told us to go park in the lot with everyone else because they couldn't afford to give up all that space for just one car. The Jeep guys needed to use it. Jeep club obviously has no problems with participation. Area where fellow Ohio Region Classic Car Club members would have been sitting, had any of them bothered to show up. Balloon Fest was actually pretty spectacular and the weather was perfect for launching. Should we even bother planning the October event? I'm thinking no.
