But this one is sporting an artistic Falcon instrument panel. Not sure if that is original or not. But thought it looked good. The local Labour Council puts on a day for the kids and a Car Show every year and we decided to attend with the Special after talking to my friends the day before. We needed to be up early and meet to get good parking spots. With coffee and bagels we met up and had front row parking putting up our shade tents as it was to be an 85 degree day. With lots of sun shine the cars came in and these two Covair's caught my eye. Lot's of variety at this show and this '72 Corvette was something I could get to like... For a 5 dollar donation for the event there were free hot dogs and drinks for car registered participants and we shared stories with fellow car owners out of the sun under the tents waiting for the door prise draws, awards and the 50/50 draw. At this show they drew the 50/50 after the door prises and then said to stay around for the awards. Well... This award was called and that award was called and then... Don't I hear my name called! It seems there were enough fellow car patrons there that thought the old girl deserved the Participants Choice Award! HOLY MACKEREL! This is only the 2nd time in the 47 years of owning this car that she was deemed worth of something like this! Currently they have 45 vehicle registered for the tour. Great bunch of people on this tour that really know how to have a lot of fun driving their cars. Brooklyn Beer Posted September 7, 2019 Share Posted September 7, 2019 They did "judging" in an odd way. Every registered car got a ballot. The organizers choose for you 3 classes you had to judge. I was 1980's pick up trk, post 1980 corvette, and post 1980 mopar. WHAT. So hot rodders had to judge pre 1950 originals? There was 12 pre 1960 original cars and 4 pre 50 original (I.E. not rodded) cars. Not a single original car received top anything. 135 cars registered. When a nearly stock 2018 challenger with neon lights under the hood takes top mopar there is a problem. Never called top Buick because there was 2 of us. Oddly corvette had tops for each decade. Top chevy was broken up for tri five and others excluding corvette. Think they felt sorry for the guy with the bone stock perfect 60 olds convertible and gave him number 2 convertible, a 68 camaro (rodded) got number 3 and of course some rodded 30's ford won top convertible.( It didn't have any convertible mechanism just no top) There really wasn't any criteria at the end. I did get them stuffed back in the garage. (34 cylinders and about 1200 HP there) That's the '86 Park Ave convert on the right. The black one... it's a "B" car anyway. That reminds me of buying a 1976 Jaguar XJ6 a decade or more ago. I took it to the garage for the state inspection. Scott, the owner looked at me "How'd you get this far up the alphabet?" The event was held at our sponsoring dealership, Goldstein Buick GMC. There was a wide array of vehicles including Morgan Wright's 1917 Buick, which was chosen for the top show award by the dealer owner. Congrats @Morgan Wright I must say, Morgan had that engine fine tuned. He got it running with what looked like less than a 1/4 turn of the hand crank starter. And it ran very smooth! At one point this little Fiat showed up and someone thought it would look best next to Morgans Car! I can tell you honestly, It would be very difficult for me to get into that Fiat! The dealer brought out the 1925 they own. We took the '13 on the Lansing/Dearborn HCCA tour and both vehicles to the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village. Here is a video on the OCF with at picture of our truck at the village at about 3:15. The '13 can be seen at 7:03 with the other vehicles that participated in the Lansing/Dearborn run. It is on the far left of the screen. I used about 1/2 tank of gas in the car giving rides around the village Saturday & Sunday. Larry Schramm Posted September 12, 2019 Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) Well, finally getting time to put some pictures of our days last week driving the '13 on tour and at the Greenfield Village Old Car Festival. We went on the Horseless Carriage Club tour from Dearborn to Lansing for the "reliability" tour that has been going on for decades. The assortment of cars that participated in this tour ranged from one and two Cadillacs, Reo's and Curved Dash Oldsmobile's to four cylinder cars. Among one of the oldest cars that participated was a 1904 Ford model A. We had three 2 cylinder Model F Buicks on the tour. We drive to Lansing on Thursday and return to Greenfield Village on Friday. The Old Car Festival is then Saturday & Sunday. Here are some pictures from Thursdays part of the tour. We drove 117 miles on Thursday. Breakfast stop. Line of cars on the tour in front of us. We drove through Hell, Michigan as part of the route. The last stop was at a high school automotive class to show the students the collection of cars that we were driving. The students really enjoyed our stop and letting them see such old iron up close and personal. The morning was a great early fall day like Thursday but it started to rain in the afternoon. We drove through rain for about 2-2.5 hours. So we all drove in the rain back to the village in our old cars. Not the first time they have been in the rain or us. Friday was a 111 mile day. The first picture is of our cars in a local dealership that let us park our cars in the service department overnight. At one of the featured collection stops. Driving in the rain in the afternoon. Larry Schramm Posted September 12, 2019 Share Posted September 12, 2019 (edited) On Saturday and Sunday we spent at the village gathering with friends and family and giving rides around the village. I gave so many drives around the village that I used almost 1/2 tank of gas. The great thing about this event is that the car owners can drive their vehicles around the village. Don Obermeyer attended for the first time with his 1908 Buick Model F. He too was giving rides around the village. It was a great time for all. Below are some pictures of getting with friends.
