  1. I wonder why he comments how complete and original the car is, and then suggests how perfect it is for modifying.
  2. I would call them stainless steel front fender moldings.
  3. The story I have seen in a few places is they substituted a '53 Lincoln to pull the trailer in the mountain scenes that was the same yellow color. The Lincoln is very similar to the Merc and most did not notice the change. Now when I watch the movie its not to hard to see it's a Lincoln.
  4. Back in the 60's I had a 1953 Mercury 2dr hardtop also known as the sports coupe. It had a the standard trans with overdrive. It was nice having overdrive which allowed it to drive on the new Baltimore beltway smoothly with the engine at a lower RPM than the 3 speed in high gear. One problem with these flat heads is a tendency to run hot. I had this problem with the '53 Mercury and also my '51 Ford. My '53 Mercury was Parklane green solid color (not two tone). I think it was the original paint. The next car I bought was a 1954 Mercury Monterey convertible with the 256 cu. in OHV engine and standard trans with overdrive. It was an improvement over the flat head with a lot more power and never had over heating problems. The '54's also have ball joint front suspension rather than king pins. This is the car I regret selling the most of all the cars I have owned. If you can, I would test drive the car on a hot day and check for over heating. I am not sure of the value but would guess 15k approximately if it is a really nice car.
  5. I wonder if it runs hot and overheats. It looks like it doesn't get enough air to the radiator with that grille opening.
  6. I always liked and agreed with Dave@Moons posts. One of my favorites was "Lost Souls" which showed a lot of great cars that had been ruined by being made into street rods. One of the worst was a '56 or '57 Continental Mark II that had a chopped top. That is ruining a beautiful design IMHO!
  7. The one good thing about it is it is the only one ever built.
  8. Looks like a very solid '41 Buick . Could be a nice driver with brake work and some cleaning and polishing.
  9. Really nice Packard. Bid is at $6200 with 5 days to go.
  10. That is a very nice '39 Buick. It looks like it is in good condition in all respects.
  11. I agree It looks like a 1937 Pontiac Keiser31. I can't believe you knew this and even have a picture!
  12. It's a shame to scrap these cars. I hope some can be bought and saved.
  13. Great looking international pickup that looks like it has been very well kept.
  14. I had a 67 Austin Healey that I bought almost new in 68 with under 20,000 miles. I used it as my daily driver for the next 9 years and 80k miles. It was a fabulous car and I enjoyed every mile driving it. I agree it had a beautiful sound going through the gears. The overdrive made it a great highway cruiser. I sold it and have regretted it ever since. I want another but the prices for a good on are beyond my means. I always enjoy your pictures Keiser31!
  15. You can check Ebay for 56 Buick's that have sold. Search Sold for accurate prices.
  16. Rod that is a beautiful 1940 Century!
  17. Using a 320 in 1937 Century will make the car correct and more valuable. The Century is very desirable because it is the small series body with the big engine.
  18. Richard Gumm did my '40 Buick steering wheel and it looks very good. I got it done almost 10 years ago and it is holding up very well. I would highly recommend him and his price is very reasonable.
  19. Chris that was another well done and interesting video. I liked the drive you took with it and the jazz music was great!
  20. I liked the video and agree the '61 Desoto was a very different looking car especially the grille. I was interested in the Torsion bar suspension test showing GM cars following the Chrysler car, and the torsion bar suspension was much better handling the bumps. I remember the first time I saw a '57 Plymouth walking to school at the age of 12 years old and was shocked how different (and good) it looked! A friend of mine's father traded his '55 Buick in for a '57 Plymouth 2 door hardtop and it felt really stable and cornered very flat compared to the Buick. I very much liked the '57 Chrysler line up but my favorite was the great looking '57 Desoto.
  21. I think that Matt has summed up this discussion correctly. It makes sense that most have old cars that they have memories of when they were new or at least part of traffic on the roads when they were young. I am old enough to remember cars of the 40's and 50's. My Dad had a '40 Buick Super coupe that I remember and even came home from the hospital when I was born. That is probably why I have my '40 Roadmaster coupe and it is my favorite car to drive. I like the sound of the engine and especially the 1st gear whine of the transmission. I am sorry to see the trend of restomods taking over the hobby, but that is life I suppose.
  22. I had portawalls on my '52 Ford and they looked good for quite a while. My friend at a gas station put them on and he used a rubber hammer smacking them down all around the diameter when they were partially inflated and making them dirty, but they were flush on the tire. Then fully inflating the tire. SOS cleaned them up. Probably not good to use on radials.
  23. I hope this Buick gets saved. It looks to be in very good condition. Some years ago when I used spend a lot of time in junk yards it was surprising how nice some of the cars were. I even saw some that were driven in to junk that looked pretty good!
  24. It looks like a beautiful restoration and it was a done on a very solid original. The interior looks very nice and the owner has done some work to eliminate some minor flaws as well as tuning and putting on new tires. It does not mention that engine was rebuilt but it looks like it was and it is very nice under the hood. I have always considered this a great looking Buick. I am not sure of the value but there is a '48 Super Convertible in the August Hemmings that is claimed to be fully restored for $79,500. You could check eBay for ones that have sold recently.
  25. Fantomworks did a recent show on a 2 CV that was in need of a mechanical freshening. It was owned by two young girls who were French can-can dancers and the car fit their act and were driving every day. It showed the suspension repairs, carb and brake work. I think it was season 4 episode 7.
