Saw this trying to hide from me today....
michel88 replied to keiser31's topic in General Discussion
That was my dream car back in the fifties when I was a car crazy teenager. In 1960 when I was 16 a friend of mine bought a '40 Ford convertible for about $300! It was a nice car which would be worth a lot today. It did have a '53 Mercury flathead instead of the original 85 HP engine otherwise completely stock, It ran very well and was very quick and fun to drive. He did not have his driver license at the time so for about a month I got to drive it everywhere, which I enjoyed very much! He got his license but I still got to drive it some. I still think about that '40 convertible and it is a very happy memory! -
Bill,I took a look at it and agree that chrome on the rear quarter should be coming off the wheel well straight back (horizontal) to the rear of the car. The chrome seems to be dipping downward and does not look right. I looked at the '56 Century picture just below and this shows the trim correctly. It's a beautiful California car but this is a definite flaw! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Buick-Riviera-Special/272733713132?_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D9d6d84622dbb4974b40e54151b29a454%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D272733713132&_trkparms=pageci%3Afdf858c4-5b97-11e7-9efb-74dbd1804fea%7Cparentrq%3Aec14bf2815c0ac807566eaf6ffffc976%7Ciid%3A1

Post a picture of your father or grandfathers car..
michel88 replied to nick8086's topic in Photo and Videos
Auburnseeker, That is a sweet '49 Merc and I am sure your Dad is very happy with it. His first '49 Merc painted black was similar to the one in the movie "Rebel Without a Cause" that James Dean drove. -
That is a lot of interesting cars. I like the giant pedal car!

michel88 replied to keiser31's topic in General Discussion
I am out every day walking my dog, who loves to go for long walks. I never see any interesting old cars like you do. That Plymouth coupe is really nice! -
Heater core for 1957 Ford Retractible
michel88 replied to victorialynn2's topic in General Discussion
Joe there is a radiator shop that is pretty close to you. Try Cummins Radiator Co. The address is 3200 Washington Blvd Baltimore MD 21230 410-646-4892. It's in Lansdown and they have been in business a long time. They recored my '51 Ford heater core and recored my '40 Roadmaster radiator also adding an additional row of tubes. It made the Roadmaster run nice and cool! -
Heater core for 1957 Ford Retractible
michel88 replied to victorialynn2's topic in General Discussion
My heater core started to leak on my '51 Ford after 27 years of ownership. I took it to a commercial radiator shop and they were able to re-core it. I think it cost about $250. -
The rims on the car are not original '40 Buick. They look like they are from the 60's or 70's.

That's what I call traveling in style!

That looks like it would make a unique fun driver if it is basically mechanically sound. It has overdrive which is a big plus for driving on major highways. I hope someone will save it.

That is a very nice '56 Buick Super at a very fair price. I suggest putting an ad with a picture in Hemmings Motor News. It takes a while to appear in the magazine but it will immediately go on their internet site at no extra charge. You can also put numerous pictures of the car on the internet site. I have had very good results from advertising in Hemmings and you will reach a lot of serious buyers.

I was thinking the front fenders may be from a '49 to '52 Ford F1 pickup.
-
That looks like a custom built with parts from various cars. The rear quarters look like a Buick approximately '51. The grille and parking lights look like '55 Ford. I'm not sure about the rest of it!

1963 Buick Riviera.All Original.86,269 miles

It's a good looking '63 Riv! The air cleaner has 465 on it which is the torque rating, indicating it is the 425 cubic inch engine. -
What Was The First Car You Ever Drove?
michel88 replied to Brass is Best's topic in General Discussion
The first car I drove was my Dad's '52 Ford. I was 14 and he let me drive it in and out of the garage. Another more exciting drive about the same time was when a young doctor at the office where my mom worked let drive his Austin Healey 100 around the parking lot! I took my drivers test in a neighbors '55 Olds that I had never driven before but managed to pass the test. He worked downtown by the DMV and offered to take me. I took the bus home and then took the '52 Ford out for a drive with a big smile! -
This a beautiful 56 Imperial at a very fair price. I don't expect it to last very long. I am thinning my herd also or I would be very interested!

Velocity Channel Ruins Wheeler Dealers
michel88 replied to 1957Birdman's topic in General Discussion
Wheeler Dealers is one of my favorite shows on Velocity channel. It won't be the same without Edd China and they are making a big mistake by replacing him. I also like Chasing Classic cars. The worst automotive show (not on Velocity) IMHO is "Fast n' Loud". They have never seen a nice original car that wouldn't look much better with 20" wheels! Also what is with this "Gas Monkey" name? Back in the day mechanics were called "Grease Monkeys". -
Johnny Cash's 1979 tour bus, and memories with a friend
michel88 replied to MarrsCars's topic in General Discussion
Interesting article about Johnny Cash and his bus. He definitely personalized it to his taste. I never realized he was somewhat of a homebody and the bus gave him a home away from home. Thanks for posting this article. -
My estate sale find today, Hudson wheel covers
michel88 replied to MarrsCars's topic in General Discussion
I appreciate that original cars are being considered desirable now. This patina appreciation can be carried too far IMHO. I was lucky to be able to purchase my '51 Ford country Squire from the original owners family. It had been garaged ever since it was new and still had original paint. It was an untouched original car but I still did everything I could to make it clean and as new looking as possible. I waxed and polished the original paint and chrome gently. I carefully cleaned and waxed the firewall and cleaned the engine etc. I don't think leaving an original car dirty with "patina" makes sense. -
I worked part time at small Sinclair station during my high school years in 1961 and 1962 and enjoyed it very much. Our give-away was Top Value stamps which were yellow in color. The customers were very careful to make sure that I remembered to give them their stamps! It wasn't a give-away but Sinclair offered blow up Dino the dinosaur that was popular with kids.

I recorded the show last night and just finished watching it. It's the first episode of their new season (S17 E1) and it was really interesting even if it is scripted. They bought some really rare bikes including a '31 Indian four with the engine out of the bike but it had been rebuilt and went with it. Another rare one was a '22 Ace four cylinder for $45,000! There were a lot of a nice cars mostly independents. There was a very pretty light green Frazer 4 door convertible that was not for sale. I am sure it will be repeated and it is well worth watching.
