Thought I would create a companion to the photos thread for sharing period videos! I'll start the ball rolling with this recently restored 1949 film promoting a seaside holiday in country Victoria, lots of different cars from the period (mostly 1920-1939 very few post ww2 cars) What else have people seen?

Cadillac's of the time used a pliar with two studs on it for the kelsey rims - I've changed tyres both with it and without it, with the correct tool you can change a tyre in about 5 minutes

Turn signals flash when on battery, solid when motor running?
hidden_hunter replied to hidden_hunter's topic in Technical
Alright finally got another chance to play with it and I'm still no closer to understanding what's going on Turn signals flash perfectly when the car is turned off and stay on while the car is running, things I tried today with the same result Added a rectifier (no change) Bypassed the signal-stat and connected an indicator to the flasher can using a regular switch (no change) Brake lights in the same housing work fine when the car is running (no flickering and only come on when pedal is depressed) The battery is fully charged and the voltage sits around 7.1 amp at idle and doesn't seem to jump around. I'm really at a loss what to try next -
Using LED turn signal lamps with a 6 volt system?
hidden_hunter replied to cjmarzoli's topic in Technical
I've had a number of flashers fail that were designed (supposedly) for 6v positive ground LED, the quality seems really poor for them. We bench tested one of our spares and they're pretty forgiving on voltage so you might find they work -
Don't know if it would work for automotive paint, but I've used peel away very successfully for work around the home - much better than the eco friendly citrus based rubbish that literally did nothing Not sure if it's branded as the same stuff in the US, https://www.peelaway.com.au/ There are variants that are also asbestos safe

Yep, V63 - there's a few bits and pieces missing from the engine like the distributor cover but looks like its mostly original under the hood. I think the challenge with these cars is that they're not cheap nor easy to work on, but equally don't bring huge money when completed - so unless you're doing it for the fun of it there are probably better choices out there That bumper is an original accessory as well, which isn't common to see

Do you have a YOM license plate on your car ?
hidden_hunter replied to Jeff Perkins / Mn's topic in General Discussion
This is what was on the car when I imported it, but I don't believe them to be original to the car We don't have YOM plates in Australia, Victoria instead uses symbols on its plates to signify its class - My current plates have a diamond on them, and pre 1919 cars get stars -
The photo's certainly don't look like it's anywhere near Victoria, it's much too sunny

Help identifying year of Cadillac brass headlight

Yep, by the 20's they no longer had cadillac stamped on them -
I wonder if it actually does much

Have you ever wrecked a car when you were younger?
hidden_hunter replied to Lebowski's topic in General Discussion
Nope, closest I've come to writing off a car was when I got shunted into a pile up in my Honda Accord Euro (Acura TSX) - was one of the most annoying things driving, I saw the accident in front of me and stopped in time then some idiot behind me wasn't paying attention and slammed into the back of my car at about 40mph and pushed me into the accident. That was fun with the insurance companies.. -
Nope, doesn't get cold enough here and the car gets plenty toasty inside

New Fuse Block system.. engine bay or under dash?
hidden_hunter replied to 37 Pontiac SilverStreak's topic in Technical
I agree, my 1922 Cadillac (positive ground as well) is bone stock, asides from a rewire to replace the degraded original wiring and it will start almost instantly from cold - when properly adjusted it should be nearly identical to a modern car (on a cold day, the cad probably fired quicker than my old bmw) -
Can you get a picture of the wheel itself as well?

Have you checked that you're getting consistent spark? -
Here's Victoria's approach to limiting HP to age https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/licences/your-ps/prohibited-vehicles-for-p-plate-drivers/about-prohibited-vehicles About 175hp/2200lbs is the limit, no performance increasing mods or specifically banned - used to ban v8/turbo/supercharging but obviously most modern cars having it made that rule impractical. The restrictions also apply to vintage vehicles as well, but on the new rules a P plater could drive my Cadillac with it's V8 where as in the past they couldn't (power to weight of 0.017 hp/lb compared to my modern car at approx 0.1 hp/lb)

My 1922 Cadillac has roll up windows that function the same as a modern car (albeit the handle is tiny) in both the front and rear

On a side note, when we were in the UK last year we were passing by the town where they filmed part of the show - the town it's self was nice but man it was expensive - it was like £10 to park and then if you wanted to go to the church where they filmed stuff it was £15 (we were a bit over looking at churches at that point) but nice little town with a nice pub and chocolate shop

I had some grilled oysters when I was in NOLA, and they were fantastic - would have thought that grilling them would have ruined them but nope. There's a place here that imports American groceries, and the Zataran's mixes make a good quick meal after work (obviously if you made it from scratch it would be nicer... but can't really be bothered after work)

Make a HOT cup of Coffee or T & enjoy the ride!
hidden_hunter replied to 1937hd45's topic in General Discussion
Enjoyed it - very different conditions to drive in compared to most of the video we see -
We've switched to getting most stuff delivered now to avoid going to the shops to lower our risk - not in any high risk category but don't especially want to chance it plus we can support small businesses rather than the local big boxes Despite all the local press complaining, we're comparatively doing really well compared to most western governments but of course no time to be complacent. My work even gave us extra money each week to help cover the increased home expenses when you work from home (though I think I'm ahead anyway from lack of coffees out) Sadly my Cadillac isn't parked where I live so I can't even work on that in my spare time, and we'd just taken delivery of a new Golf R station wagon (which is also loads of fun) but has done less than 250 miles in the last month.... The way I figure it as well, is if the hardest thing I have to do for my country is stay home I really can't complain - it's not like I'm being shipped off to Europe to be shot at....

hidden_hunter replied to carbking's topic in General Discussion
I reckon if you were clever with an adaptor you could probably get a carb on each of the banks and not worry about the cross over (I've got a plate over my exhaust tube internally as it doesn't it). These motors are finnicky across the board, the electrical system is also a dual point setup that is fiddly to get right and the manual interchanges what they call cylinder 1 in places.... -
