Andy, try placing the Motometer in yoour home refrigerator - maybe even the freezer, and check it every so often. That solved the issue when the fluid in mine separated, many years ago. Good Luck

1957 Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon WINDSHIELD
Marty Roth replied to DCCD's topic in Buick - Post War
Just a guess, but wouldn't the Special and the Century wagons be comparable? and likely a 4-door hardtop in either of those series? -
My Car Trailer needs replacement........
Marty Roth replied to R W Burgess's topic in General Discussion
Wayne, I bought one of these maybe 35 - 40 years ago to add to my weight-distributing hitch. It operates by the lever increasing the amount of friction on the sliding bar, making it harder for the trailer to sway. You can leave it relatively loose, or lock it totally solid, or find a sweet spot somewhere in the middle to provide resistance and hopefully help slow the oscillation of the trailer. I used it once but found it totally unnecessary if the trailer is properly loaded with at least (and preferably More than) 60% of the total trailer weight forward of the axle(s) mid-line. Mine sits in the garage - somewhere, and will stay there unless I find myself with a load impossible to properly proportion. -
We carry half our garage to help other folks - and it seems to work - ... that, plus lots of prep time
-
I also carry the low profile lightweight aluminum floor jack from Harbor Freight, as well as a board to place under it if not on a paved surface. Last year for Fathers day, the kids got me a top-quality 1/2" drive DeWalt impact wrench, sets of both SAE and Metric deepwell sockets, and ear protection. Of course I still follow up with my torque wrench. All that, plus a ramp for trailer wheels makes life safer and a lot earier. It allowed me to help other folks during the recent Founders Tour in West Virginia.

What is the strange contraption on the roof of the Dodge directly behind the black Buick with the white roof ?

Very Patriotic thankfully not an actual flag which should never touch the ground

Yes, that is exactly how I reemember it, too ! Very finickey adjustment, so you have to hold your jaw "just right" when tightening the screws, or it may decide to blow when you make a turn - maybe right, but maybe left, (depending on your politics?).

Good to know that the issue was confined to an air leak, Throttle shaft can be as much a problem as a leaky base gasket

Tie Down Points for 1972 Buick Riviera
Marty Roth replied to Preserve1st's topic in Garages, Trailers, and Towing
Agreed ! That is how I tie down my trailered cars - Each Lower control arm to opposite "D" ring Rearaxle straps on each side of "Pumpkin to opposite side "D" ring I also, at times, will attach straight forward and backward from Lower control arm and rear axle in addition to cross-tie - just as a backup, but that is like wearing a belt AND suspenders -

Period images to relieve some of the stress
Marty Roth replied to Walt G's topic in Period Photos - Pre WWII
Thanks, Dave, I'll take it ! I'll take it ! I'll take it ! Love the '54, and it would be neat sitting next to our Series 62 convertible -
I've been accused (perhaps rightly so?) of carrying my entire garage when we go touring. Thankfully, I've been able to assist many other tour participants while on tour- but maybe I should be considering this method of tool storage?

These photos of Mr Arbuckle’s 1919 Pierce Arrow Model 66 A-4 Open Tourer were taken during the 2016 AACA Reliability Tour based In Savannah, Georgia. The tour visited the home of Mr. and Mrs Robert S. Jepson, Jr. at their Gregory Neck Plantation in South Carolina. They hosted a coffee break there, and were a delight in sharing auto appreciation. That motel on Route 66 ?

I've been using Shell Rotella 15W-40, just like in my Diesel tow vehicle, It still has some zinc, and our '37 seems to do very well with it, as does our '41 Caddy. The engines in both are unrestored originals.

In addition to Larry's very appropriate comment, above, remember the capacity of your car's braking system. Comfortably holding higher speeds with less engine revs/noise is one thing, but being able to safely stop is even more critical.

2021 AACA Special Dual Nationals in Puerto Rico Rescheduled
Marty Roth replied to a topic in AACA - Shows and Tours
We (Dale & I) both hope to be there and to judge - health permitting. We thoroughly enjoyed the most recent Puerto Rico Meet, as well as the exceptional hospitality, scenery, and many additional associated events. -
Are there any pictures from the Saratoga Springs meet posted?
Marty Roth replied to 31plymouth's topic in General Discussion
Possibly, if you right-click on your (his) pic, click on copy, email it to yourself, then download- but there is likely a simpler way -
Wish I still had my pics of when the GAR overnighted in New Orleans, probably back in the 1980s. We displayed some cars in the ballroom of the Hilton, including our 1917 Franklin 9-A Touring.
