6T-FinSeeker
For sale on Ebay: 1955 Chrysler Imperial Newport Coupe "Springtime Edition" in Hillsboro, OR - Opening bid of $1,955 - No phone # provided. Contact Seller through Ebay: 0218jcg Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Chrysler-Imperial/124448818148/the-only-1-remaining Seller's Description: “Springtime Edition” 1955 Imperial Newport Coupe Mileage: 98066 VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): C5512278 “Springtime Edition” 1955 Imperial Newport Coupe Highlights: “Springtime Edition” Newport Coupe – the only 1 remaining! Highly original condition with one repaint in correct Sunburst Yellow & Platinum Original drivetrain 331 CI/250HP FirePower Hemi V-8 engine Dual exhaust with through-bumper exit Automatic transmission Power steering Power brakes Power seats Power windows Very rare three-tone white, yellow, and green leather interior In the Spring and Summer of 1955, Imperial offered a special “Springtime” color combination of a Sunburst Yellow body with a Platinum top. Very few of these were built and, according to the records of the Walter P. Chrysler Club and the Imperial Club, this is the only one remaining. Chrysler Historical Services provided us with the Production Record (see picture) certifying that this Imperial was delivered with the stated options and was one of the original Sunburst Yellow body with a Platinum top “Springtime” cars. This Imperial was built on July 19, 1955 and is one of only 3,418 Imperial Newport Coupes built in 1955. It’s equipped with power windows, power seats, Town & Country radio with rear speaker, and rare factory air conditioning. The fresh air scoops for the A/C are mounted on top of the rear fenders and the A/C evaporator and blower are located in the trunk. The 1955 Imperial, advertised as the “Flagship of the Forward Look” and as “The Finest Car America Has yet Produced”, was the first Imperial completely designed by Virgil Exner, Styling Director of Chrysler Corporation. It was also the first Imperial built on its own dedicated production facility within the new Imperial Division of the Chrysler Corporation. This 1955 Imperial Newport Coupe was originally purchased at Town & Country Motors in Indianapolis, IN. Finished in its original colors of Platinum over Sunburst Yellow with a re-upholstered gold Eagle cloth and white leather interior. This coupe and has been driven on multiple Chrysler Club tours and was awarded a best in class trophy by Keith Martin and Donald Osborne at the 2017 Forest Grove Concours d’ Elegance. It received a new interior and was painted before being acquired by the seller 6 years ago. Power comes from its original 331 cubic inch, 250 HP, 340 lb/ft torque Hemi paired with a 2-speed Powerflite automatic transmission. This Imperial is offered with its Chrysler Production Record, a copy of its data card, the original sales brochure and owner’s manual, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name. This Imperial has its original engine, transmission and rear axle and, as far as I know, has never been taken apart. Much of the brightwork has been rechromed although there is some pitting on the original side brightwork and a few other pieces. All of the interior, trunk, and exterior lights work and the four power windows and power seats work as they should plus the A/C blows cold. All gauges work correctly. The radio and clock are not working. On the underside everything looks as it should with a general thin coat of factory applied undercoat. Mounts, rocker bottoms and floors are solid & original. New brakes, brake lines, and Coker tires were installed 6 years ago. The odometer reads 98,066 which I believe is actual mileage but I can’t guarantee that. The car drives beautifully with no issues I’m aware of. Many spare parts go with the vehicle. Additional pictures are available as well as a cold start video. Examples of these luxurious cars are rarely available, and few show the level of preservation displayed here. This remains a car for the truly serious owner desiring exclusivity Edited May 17 by 6T-FinSeeker update status (see edit history)

Jeff Perkins / Mn
My favorite color combo from the 50’s......I always wanted a ‘58 Corvette in those colors but I would much rather have this car now at this stage of my life....It is fantastic!
Fossil
Man oh man that's one fine car. I really like the colors. In the photos the interior looks nearly sanitary. Even as a kid though I could never get cozy with the tail lights. I suppose they could grow on a person and the rest of the car is stunning. Thanks for posting this.
John_S_in_Penna
Beautifully styled car. I think the yellow cloth interior might not be the best for keeping clean in the long term--even as a collector car-- but that's a small detriment. The car looks good! How much do you think it will sell for? I'd estimate $35,000 to $40,000 if it's as nice as it looks, and give $36,000 as an educated guess.

58L-Y8
Lovely example, what a disappointment there were no '55-56 Imperial convertibles as a standard offering, only the few custom-built cars.

I don't know how any person or club or historical car association can make a claim like this UNLESS they know exactly what happened to all the rest of said vehicles. It may be the only one KNOWN to exist, but is probably not the only one in existence.

Agreed, but not sure the Chrysler Corporation was in the position, circa 1953ish, to go all in on an essentially specialty niche car. I had an agreement to purchase a 55 Imperial from a WP Chrysler Club member 18 years ago, paid a down payment but then changed my mind. Wonderful cars, lithe and tight compared to the Lincolns and Cadillacs, and I like the Cadillacs.
JACK M
I sure liked my 56 Imperial, Not sellers remorse as it was time to move on. But brings back fond memories.

6T-FinSeeker
On 11/23, Seller ended the auction because the item is no longer available. There were 10 bidders and a high cancelled bid of $45,000. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1955-Chrysler-Imperial/124448818148/Auction-ended-early Edited November 24, 2020 by 6T-FinSeeker (see edit history)
John_S_in_Penna
The link above now shows, evidently, a new auction, with no bids yet and a starting bid of $1955.00. Why would the seller repeat the auction? An irresponsible high bidder, perhaps?
6T-FinSeeker
The link above shows the results for the auction that ended 11/23. The zero bids reflects the reversed, or cancelled, bids. If you click on the "0" link, it will show the details of the 10 bidders and their cancelled links. If you click on "Seller's other items," link it will show that there aren't any other cars listed for sale by this seller. Sorry!
John_S_in_Penna
Thank you for the explanation. I don't know enough of the vagaries of Ebay. Why would all the bids be cancelled?
billorn
He probably thought he had it sold to someone who then backed out.

Why would all the bids be cancelled? Hi John, I think the Seller sold the car to someone outside of the auction. It might have been listed for sale locally while also simultaneously listed on the auction. In these cases, Sellers often put language in the auction stating that they have the right to end the auction early in the event the car is sold locally. If the auction is ended early, all bids are cancelled because the item (car) is no longer available.
