While some design features seem to be picked up quickly by the industry, others which were precursors took years to find currency. Locomobile designer J. Frank de Causse showed how the long, sweeping front fenders could contribute to the elegance of the design, which took the industry to the early 1930's to embrace. Had he simply swept the fender end smoothly into the running boards, the styling would have been "Suddenly, Its 1930!" (Yes, I'm referring to that famous 1957 Mopar advertisement)

WRF.RR
Mrs. Elsie Cassatt Stewart and her 1916 Owen Magnetic with Victoria hood. Photograph is dated February of 1917...with likely her driver in the substantial winter coat. Most likely taken outside of Philadelphia.
A Woolf
The Type 56 was one of the biggest cars American sold. Four cylinder 5-3/8 x 5-1/2 bore and stroke, 4 speed, 140 inch wheelbase, 6 passenger touring body. There is only one known to exist and it just recently sold at auction.
58L-Y8
Even the English had examples early of how good long, sweeping fenders look. But that side mount location leaves a lot to be desired.

Note the car lacks the Packard Solar headlamps introduced that year, and it has fenders from 1908. There is another view of this car going in the opposite direction. nzcarnerd
A postcard sent in New Zealand. I think the car is an early Ford T, though not sure of the exact year. NZ began sourcing its Ts from Canada quite early on, though in small numbers. EDIT - apparently this is one of the very first right-hand drive Model Ts - dating from mid/late 1909. They were supplied without a windshield and this one has had one fitted by a local coachbuilder.

Not a step down at all! that truck had at least 4 colors on it, just observe the lettering, graphics and pin stripe- all hand done by eye, no electronic graphic imagery to transfer and paste on. Even the crescent shaped trim at the door area of the body - magnificent. ALL this to deliver and promote the sale of margarine................ It has spot lights already so the only thing keeping it from being a 1960-2000 restoration is the pilot rays.
