  1. We call ‘em rock guards. Cause that’s the only thing they keep out of the carburetor.
  2. When you say real , do you mean matching engine ? Or is this a made up body ?
  3. That’s a collection all right. love the 59 Chevy wagon. good luck with the sale.
  4. I see no grease fittings. Could it be a steering knuckle?
  5. We’ll , my accident caused no damage to my car , but,,,,, I was not so lucky. lats summer I was setting the tappets on my 29 Hudson. I was setting them hot so of course I was in hurry so I left the plugs in. a little history first, a few months before my son and his friend had taken the original hand crank to do something it wasn’t intended for and lost it. So I again “ quickly “ fabbed up one to set the tappets with. It fit OKish in the crank pin. Now, back to the accident…the distributor on the hudson is right up front. Myself being 6’-4” tall , can just peer over the rad shell whilst just being able to reach the crank handle at the lowest position possible to bring it up on compression while I stretch my neck to peer over the rad to watch the rotor point to the correct position to set that tappet. I had already done 10 of the tappets with only 2 to go. We’ll three things got me into trouble, being in hurry , leaving the plugs in and a poorly made crank handle. Because I had set 10 tappets already my hands were oily. I pulled up on the second to last tappet to set on the compression stroke craning my neck over the rad and …… my hand slipped off the crank handle and my face went straight into the top of the 29’s big 12” headlight. I smashed out 6 of my front teeth. Not fun. My dad was in the shop working on one of his E4’s and looked at me across the shop with blood running out of my mouth and said “ what did you do that for ?” I went to sink and ran my mouth in the tap for many minutes. Spit out some teeth, pulled some dangling ones out. I went back and finished the tappets , started the quite motor and parked the Hudson. Then I went to emergency. I’m still dealing with dental surgeons and have a ways to go before I’m fixed. I’ll be in for over 20k by the time they are done. That 20 k would have gone a long ways in some paint and Crome on one of my other Hudson’s. That’s my accident story.
  6. In fact , the bezel looks to be made of steel , if it is it’s 28. 29 used brass. Which fails and cracks. Both will fit. Lenses are identical.
  7. The second small little car in the photo , I believe is made by Maytag. They made 500 of those to promote their small washing machine motors.
  8. All this is a 29 ESSEX. giveaways are no rear quarter window and cowl trim ends at the running lights.
  9. It’s actually a Hudson.
  10. It’s called an electrolock. the other end goes to the distributor tower and the when the key is turned it makes the circuit to the points. it’s an anti theft device so you can’t Hotwire and steel the car. hudson used these.
  11. That must be a cross flow as the early hudson super six flatheads. They used a side draft carb as well. So dude the early E4 F - heads very interesting motor. Odd to see all the cooling pipes not on the exhaust side of the motor.
  12. I have an EGT sensor in the manifold of Cummins 24v. On a long grade it gets to 900 deg. A gas engine would be much hotter I would suspect. that Franklin drawing shows the Exhaust valve stem at 1300 deg.
  13. Those look usable after some love. ps. The bottom pick is an exterior door handle.
  14. Also the Hudson /Essex pine cone for 29 are made of muck metal for interior handles. The ones you have look in bad shape.
  15. The three next to the pine cone in pic 5 are 28 Hudson and Essex
  16. I find this topic to very interesting. I’’m a Hudson guy. My 29 Hudson that I have been driving regularly for over 30 years has its original muck metal Marvel carb on it. I am amazed at how well it performs. I have dozens and dozens of hours over those years of nurturing and finessing that card as the shape of its internal bits are constantly swelling and changing. When it starts to miss behave out comes the files. Im getting to the point now that I’m scared to touch it. it looks like it will shatter to pieces at any bump. I have over the years bought every one that I could get my hands on. All of them are junk. Years back someone had brass ones reproduce, but none are to be had. I’ve seen a lot 29’s with the intake flipped 180 and 60’s Chevy downdraft adapted to it. They run well but look like shit. I’ve also seen a few BB1 adaptations but have no idea of performance. I take great pride in the originality of my 29. The motor pulls incredibly strong and is an extremely well performing engine. When I take other cars guys for a ride they are all gobsmacked at how well it pulls a big four door sedan a round. I will be at a loss when that marvel shatters to bits and have always wondered what , if any options I might have for an updraft replacement.
