2016 Forum Breakfast ideas

While it is a few months to Allentown, I'd like to open the floor to suggestions for how to conduct the Forum Breakfast we have come to enjoy.

This year seems a bit hard to plan because there are so few ( ahem) appropriate venues ( read: no hooters) .  So the following ideas have been floated and I am looking to see if anyone else has any further suggestions:

* Pre Banquet Happy Hour

* Conventional early AM breakfast at a local restaurant off site

* Pizza/ wings party on the Bulgari Site.

Keep in mind that it is anticipated there will be no judging school this year on Friday, but there is still the Friday AM BOD meeting.  And with no judging on Saturday, but the high volume of cars expected, logistics on Saturday will likely make it difficult to drive on and off site then.  Then there are the tours to compete with, especially the Dorney Park Cruise at 5 pm Thursday , and the Wednesday evening General Membership Meeting..

So before conducting a survey, are there any other ideas for the Breakfast?

Let me be the first to comment.  My suggestion is a mid-morning brunch, sort of on Thursday morning.  Seems that is the best time for most of us involved with the program.

But that is my personal preference as I am not a big fan of either pizza or wings.

I like the idea of the pre-banquet happy hour. For once, I would be able to attend that one. The last few hours before the awards banquet seem to be the deadest time for the whole meet, unless you are assembling the awards/trophies or preparing the slide show for the banquet. No tours are running at that time; some of the cars are already put away; hardly anyone is out in the parking lot socializing--it's a free time for almost everyone.

There are no cafes nor bars at the meet site. It is a former drive-in movie site, surrounded by office/warehouse facilities for light industrial uses like car repairs, body shops, car storage, and that sort of thing. I recall a few small restaurants about a mile away. I've only been there once and it was at nighttime.

Just a thought - Would it be possible to have a simple brown bag lunch (sandwich, chips, cookie) at Bulgari's place after the board meeting on Friday? The lunches could be ordered in advance and maybe even delivered. Because of the shortness of time, could the gift exchange wait until next year and use this year to just meet fellow forum members (name tags possible - I'll make them if it's a good idea???) —Cindy Livingston

I haven't exactly figured my itinerary again recently, so I don't know what will work best. I'll have the family and multiple cars so if we arrive separately for the banquet that can work.

That said, I have a personal rule about drinking and driving the old iron. On a hot day though, I do like a cold brew. So, a breakfast or brunch removes that dilemma for me. That's just me though. Of course, I could have one of the teens chauffeur me.

Please let me make it clear, that there is to be NO ALCOHOL on the show field; either brought in or sold. To assist our Gate Volunteers, there will be a Security Office posted at each entrance during open show field hours.

I will go back to my earlier suggestion, but we better decide soon before another group picks the site (that is  why the name is not mentioned).  I suggest brunch, off site, Thursday Morning, or possibly even Saturday, as neither will conflict with scheduled meetings. Personally, I cannot make any morning until about 9 AM, but I can arrange any morning for breakfast if you would like, but let me know SOON.

John, does that place have a Happy Hour?  If it can still be Friday between 3-5 PM at John's restaurant, then I'm in.  Thursday AM I am working the registration table. Thursday PM I am planning to drive the covered bridge tour.

No Plumb Brandy, Beer, or Wine allowed at the Yankee Swap if we have it on the grounds??? No Thursday Mornings or evenings? Best off site then, least we all sinketh like thy mighty Titanic. The best times I have had at a meet were at these forum breakfasts, and Touring on the After Tour.  It should be inside or undercover at least. Dandy Dave!
