Mr. Dave...

Shocking! I failed to notice this. Thanks in advance for bringing it to my attention.

What on earth are we going to do about it? This is absolutely terrible that these cars are aging!! It is imperative that we do something now to prevent this!!

Sheesh...

I think 1937hd has a good point...finally a use for the Yellow Field. After the SUV's bog down, we will revert back to the ever faithful Tractor Pull contest.

Hey Guys, I just found the chocolate, red, and white field on my Hershey map after turning it right side up , and now you tell me there's a yellow" field? Geez, can't you give a new guy a break! Wayne

Wayne...the 'ole Yellow Field was on the southern bank of the Swatara Creek. It's brother is the Trailer Parking Field on the northern side of the Swatara. Trailers sinking to their axles remains as a reminder of how Vendors once sank to their ankles/axles in the Yellow Field, of which, is not utilized any longer.

The yellow field... HERCO has a drive thru "Christmas Light Display" in there for the last two months, It has seen more traffic than the yellow field has ever seen. Lets hope HERCO's interest will continue, with more and more stone used to make this field the next great flea market field. (not the "Mud Bog" field!")

I think that judging class would have to take points off if you can see orig. paint after a run! cool.gif Karl

By the way, I left Mitsubishi off the list (5 years). tongue.gif

Carleton, The vast majority of SUV's are not commercial in use or registration, unlike most of the Jeeps, Scouts and Broncos that currently qualify. I think SUV's should eventually be competing with Vipers and Escorts in the standard classes when the time comes.

Are the spaces at the Giant Center Expedition sized? confused.gifsmirk.gif

...included with sale are two drums of gen-you-ine 2003 vintage 92 octane gasoline. Please note this substance is banned and you will need an easily obtained government permit. That's right, your new classic SUV can actually be driven (of course, not on The People's Transport Highway System due to the lack of wire-guide system and various other mandated safety controls. Note and disclaimer to purchaser: all byproducts of combustion must be trapped in approved collection device affixed to so-called 'tailpipe' of subject vehicle and delivered to the proper disposal authority. Device available at extra cost.

Purchaser further indemnifies seller from the 'SUV Eyesore" litigation of 2008; acknowledges the removal of all insignia and badging from the subject vehicle stating its origin as the now defunct 'Ford Motor Company', and pledges an unspecified, but large, annual amount to be paid to the Widows and Orphans of Lawyers Charitable Fund Management Committee Golf Outing. Interested parties are encouraged to apply.

I can actually see the possibilities of the DeLorean and Merkur as they are not run-of-the-mill cars and have some current collector interest.

The Yugo should qualify just on survival! If there are any left...

A few years ago I had a chance to buy a really nice low miles Buick 2 seater - think it was called the Reatta? That may end up being parked somewhere near the Delorean too. Kinda sorry I didnt buy it and just stash it away. And how about that Caddy Aleante (sp?)that had such a short-lived production. I think it was even an Indy 500 pace car one year?

How many days till Hershey?

I can hardly wait:)

Although I just (finally) joined AACA thanks to some friends and that I do have qualifying cars... 1970 Ford XL converts...I also have several..OK..10 Merkurs too. So, I could quite possibly be the first senior winner.

Good one Peter J. :D It is always a hoot to watch the local news each year to see the poor souls being pulled out of the Yellow Field (nicknamed the Lemon Field by the poor saps that were put there the first year.)

Welcome to the AACA, MerkurRS. I remember driving those Merkurs when they were new, and would like to have one today (in nice driving condition). They're kind of like BMW 2002s... they don't have much sex appeal, but they sure did drive nicely.

There was a time a 1940 Buick was not allowed on an AACA show field. Spawned the CVHA club. There was a time a Packard (I believe) was not allowed on an AACA show field. Spawned the CCCA. There was a time a Corvette was not welcomed on an AACA showfield. Spawned Carlisle. Anyone see a pattern here?

I am a brass car guy. I like other cars as well. Not too many cars in the 80's interest me personally but time changes a lot of things. Some day your grandchildren or great-grandchildren may talk about the great fun they had in a minivan when they were a kid and wish to have one.

Just my opinion but love what interests you, support what interests you but be tolerant of others interests as they may be the ones preserving and owning our cars in the future.

Steve, that is a very astute observation.

I really like my 1929 Model A Ford Phaeton. I am very proud of it. It is worth much more than the vehicle that tows it.

I also own a 1976 Ford Country Squire Wagon. It is a good original "survivor", not quite old enough for HPOF yet, so I just take it to local shows. It is amazing how many more people want to talk to me about that unrestored (with a little rust visible) Wagon, than want to talk about the Model A.

Everybody seems to have a story about either "we", "my aunt", "my uncle", "my neighbor", or someone else in the family, had one just like it.... It is worth a lot less than the government would give me for it if it was new enough to officially be a "Clunker", but that clunker of a wagon sure gets a lot of attention at local car shows. That wagon will probably get more people interested in joining the hobby than the Model A will.
