2021 Revival Glidden Tour photos - Saratoga Springs, NY

We just spent a great week in the Saratoga Springs, NY area with about 180 other pre-WWII cars and their owners on the Revival Glidden Tour.  We drove our 1941 Studebaker Commander Land Cruiser about 200 miles to get there, then put on 400 miles on back roads on tours during the week, and 200 more to get home.  Each day we drove in a different direction, visited sites and museums in upstate NY and VT.  These tours are not for wimps or unreliable cars, but they are great fun.  Jeff and Angie Chattin DROVE their 1911 Thomas Flyer from Georgia; one of the other cars had driven a circuitous 2700+ miles to get there!  Oldest cars on the tour were a 1906 Cadillac and 1906 Franklin, plenty of 'Teens and Twenties cars.  Of the 180 cars, 74 of them were Fords, mostly A's and T's, but we managed to get 13 Studebakers there.  This meet is put on by AACA and VMCCA with the assistance of AAA, who provided two roll-back trucks to pick up the unfortunate, though only a few cars had serious problems.  Here are a few pictures:

Saw this Dodge Brothers at Dave Lockards Packard Truck Show at York Springs PA in 2018. At the time there was a fair bit of activity under the hood, I think for water pump issues.

I recognize quite a few of the places shown in the backgrounds...even though this is so close to home I couldn't get there. With no legitimate show aspect I couldn't just drive around the north country just hoping to run across you guys.  Would have liked to have seen these cars.

Thank you for posting Gary,

I am sorry we never got time to talk in person as I wanted to meet you after all your posting here.  The Stevens belongs to Mike and Joan Huffman, long time Gliddenites from Michigan and veteran cross country tourists as well.  It is 1911 or '13 and was a last minute change out for them.  The Reo was also a last minute change where I don't remember the owner.

Billy, I am sorry you could not get to see the tour.  We did gather every day for lunch with the best sightseeing place being Wednesday at Lake George.

The 2022 Glidden will be in Princeton, NJ Sept 25-30 hosted by New Jersey Region, AACA with Vince DeLisi as tour chairman.

Thank you for coming, hope you had fun,

Bill

Bill,

Glad to hear the Glidden Tour will be in Princeton NJ next year.    Health permittting I'll be there.

I grew up in Princeton in the 1950's and look forward to seeing it again as an adult.

Thank you Bill Preston, and all your committee-

We had a great time on the 2021 Glidden Tour.
The routes, collections, venues, and the planning that went into it helped make it a very enjoyable week. The Freshman Banquet Horse Race was a welcome change from the Chicken Dance.

We even got to keep the top down on our 1937 Roadmaster Phaeton.

Looking forward to seeing you at Hershey and hopefully over the winter. Next year’s Glidden in Princeton, NJ will have their work it out to be as enjoyable as the great time we had in Saratoga Springs, New York.

The headquarters hotel, Gideon-Putnam was an excellent asset for the tour, and a beautiful old building, fitting the era of our pre-WWII cars.

Ginger& Jim Cohen’s fantastic 1931 Cadillac roadster looked right at home there !

Dale & I got to sample some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream before the Buzzards Breath Touring Region meeting , held in town Thursday evening.

Joannie & Mike Huffman’s Stevens-Duryea looked, and drove beautifully ( sorry I didn’t get them centered in the picture with their car).

The boat cruise on Lake George was another great time, as was the lunch served there-

and the free car wash on the return trip proved that Vacuum Wipers work fine if well maintained (Rain-X helps, too!).

Marty, Your Buick looks magnificent!

Thanks, Walt,

Other that listening to the soon to be repaired exhaust manifold leak, the Buick drove as a Roadmaster was intended.

Of course getting the all-original top up and down, along with the brackets and removable "B" pillar added to the day 😎 .

Top Down procedure sounds interesting - it is why I never put the top down on my 1940 Roadmaster conv. sedan. , I just go with all the windows down, B pillars removed and rear window unzipped and laying down in the well.   Add the cowl vent open and front door vent windows turned to scoop the air in and you could push a large sailing ship with all the breeze.

Walt,

I believe the “B” pillars on your 1940 Phaeton May fold with the top - much simpler than mine.

The ones on this ‘37 each are removed with a wing bolt, both top and bottom, and the segment of convertible top frame from the “C” bow to almost the Header bow also removes on each side. Yours should work like Doug Seybold’s Century. Great car, and fantastic driver -

looking forward to seeing you at Hershey!
