  1. Here is an article on Otto engines from Old Iron magazine. https://www.gasenginemagazine.com/gas-engines/oldest-otto-4-stroke-engine-zm0z22aszawar/?utm_source=wcemail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=FCM GEM eNews 11-22-22&wc_totalkey=AxNzrs4rWfM61_o-v6dKHwxhC1BvkozzLmAdcpw2LzDiNNNfqEyWiXHXC0TO-4j_mdEb9yMfcISvh08sQIbwvA
  2. I scrapped two Corvair station wagons a few years ago. I could not even sell them for parts. Probably toasters now. One '61 & one '62. The '62 was a Windsor built car with the lowest known serial number at the time. I think it was something like 000201.
  3. If the cruise just drops out, I would change the brake switch. Known problem in that era of vehicles. Cheap possible fix. https://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/stoplight-switch/p/acdelco-stoplight-switch-12450036/617744_0_0?cmpid=LIA:US:EN:AD:NL:1000000:IGN:8366887415&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4OybBhCzARIsAIcfn9nliw6TnJAEnCKlrr86kqJ-OHBSxaWhzLoEeCWIOYMMziT1zc-MSW8aAq7XEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  4. What ever you use, make sure it does not have a sharp edge. I would suggest using these seat belt anchors.
  5. You should be able to go to a salvage yard and buy the space saver spare tire. I would just call ahead. Do check the bolt pattern before buying. They probably have a jack also.
  6. Just post what you have and if I see them, I will correct them.
  7. I have an old pin set that was originally used as a carb adjustment kit from about 1985 and older. I do not use it much any more, but it sure is handy when I do use it.
  8. When I travel with the trailer, I always carry 1. A battery powered impact wrench. I currently have a 20 Volt DeWalt that I keep in the truck along with a socket set. 2. Some wood so if a trailer tire goes bad I can "ramp up" the trailer to change the tire quickly. 3. At least one spare tire and in my enclosed trailer I have two spare tires. In my enclosed single axle utility trailer I keep an inexpensive floor jack that I check periodically to be sure it works.. As a side note, I have changed all of the lug nuts on my trailers from the open end style to the closed end so they will (should) not rust to the studs. I also always check the tire pressures in the tires prior to going on a trip and make sure they are set at what the sidewall says they should be.
  9. A friend has one on his 1923 Buick that is exactly like yours. I would guess it was an aftermarket accessory product.
  10. You need to go into a photo editing program and turn them around and save the changed photo. Also, when posting photos there is a maximum size. If the photo(s) are over that size you will need to put them through a photo editor to reduce the size of the photo file.
  11. You should be able to buy nichrome wire and rewind it. You will need to find the diameter of the original wire and buy the same diameter so the resistance would be the same. Also, wind it the same number of turns.
  12. I would say that they are from the early 60's to the 70's because I remember that the method of attachment was in that era.
  13. I am very judicious in loaning tools and the same for borrowing. The number of persons that I will loan a tool to can be counted on one hand and the same goes for borrowing. Interesting, the same persons on each list. Also, I do not loan money, period. A couple of items that I will never loan is a paint sprayer and a chain saw.
  14. I just had a 10 point walk through our front yard last week. IMO, they are overgrown rats. They eat everything in sight.
  15. I put what ever the sidewall on the tire says is the maximum tire pressure.
  16. Nothing like a $50.00 barely warm rubber chicken dinner.
  17. I always use safety glasses and hearing protection. Habit picked up working in the manufacturing plant. I use hearing protection and safety glasses when I cut the grass, use the weed eater, chain saw, leaf blower, table saws, anything loud and noisy. My wife has pictures of me cutting the grass almost 50 years ago with ear muffs on. Back then people would stop and ask if I was listening to the radio or something else. I keep a pair or two in multiple places in the house, shop, and even a pair in my truck. I even have a pair of noise cancelling ear muffs that I take any time I am flying anywhere on a jet. I just upgraded to 32 db hearing ear muffs last summer. They are great compared to the older pairs that I have.
  18. If you are interested in a project car with a pile of extra parts, please look here. Car has a clean title. Thanks.
  19. I have a 1928 Dodge Fast 4 touring car that was taken partially apart and started to be put back together. The seats are redone with vinyl. The body is straight and has little rust. The wood wheels look to have been redone, or they are in very good condition. I have been told that the engine has been rebuilt, but I have not checked it for a rebuild. The engine does turn over by hand. Along with the car, there is enough parts to fill another trailer. It includes NOS fenders along with used one, multiple starters, generators, extra wheels, Dodge radiators, and who knows what else. The transmission is out of the car, but is with all of the parts. Car has a clean title. The car is located in Flint, Mi. Asking $4,500 for everything or best offer.
  20. With the exception of pulling the pan & cleaning the gunk out it and putting fresh fluids in the vehicle which includes the fuel system. The best thing to do is the above and try to get the vehicle running. See if it will start & run. @edinmass has made it clear along with a lot of us is that if you start shot gun parts replacement and it does not start it could take a lot of time to figure out what the problem is. Usually best and easier to change one or two parts at a time to improve performance.
  21. Are you sure the timing is correct and the distributor is working properly?
  22. True words. The older the vehicle, the more they change hands by word of mouth within contacts of a club. Coming into the interest of a specific group of vehicles without contacts makes it difficult to find a vehicle that an individual is able to buy. That is another reason to join a specific brand club and then the local chapters. The older the vehicle interest, the smaller the "fraternity" of knowledgeable individuals of the make, and from my experience the more helpful they are to help you along with your vehicle journey.
  23. Walt, Joyce and I practice what we preach. We were on a tour in Sept and stopped at an elementary school for the kids to see all of the old cars. Here are a couple of pictures of the kids lining up to sit in the 1915 Buick truck. They were lined up 30-40 yards back to sit in the truck. Everyone on the tour had fun. Some of the kids were asking for autographs, what kind of vehicle we owned, how to drive it, and they were all very polite. Touring and not sitting on a parking lot is our cup of tea. That is the reason that we purchased a 1912 Model T a couple of years ago for the specific purpose to go on the Model T Coast to Coast tour with the Model T Club if it happens in 2028. I have the car currently apart and going through it in preparation of going on the tour. We will drive the car a lot after it is back together to sort it out so it is ready for the tour. God willing Joyce and I are alive and able to go on the tour, We are going to take our two grandsons on the tour with us. They will be about 10 & 14 by that time. We figure that at the end of the tour the boys will either love us or hate us, but they will NEVER forget us and their time with us. Life is not about just the money, it is about the experiences that you can pass on to the next generation. It is those experiences that you can, if you decide to do, to pass on and leave your foot prints in the sand or concrete for the next generation to remember. We already have taken our older grandson on a couple of tours with us and he said that he has enjoyed the experiences. He is 7 years old. He currently looks forward to being with us and the old car(s).
