  1. I would say that it is a condenser for a car with points. Hard to say what model/year because the only real difference was the connection.
  2. I am a brass era guy that has developed a brass era son. We currently have three vehicles from the teen era and as others noted a challenge to keep them running, safe, and still drive them on the road... but I would not have it any other way. Any one can have a car from the 50's -80's and drive it around but not everyone has the knowledge(or check book) to keep a brass era car going. I am fortunate because my son in the back of the truck in the picture has a stake in our vehicles as the picture below shows along with the wife who knows how to have fun too. I feel that it is only by mentoring our offspring that we can continue to keep the hobby alive and exciting. I got some of my mentoring from a neighbor that had a Model T.
  3. Flint and Genesee County used Buicks for a long time. The FBI also used Grand Nationals/Turbo Regals for a while.
  4. If you let the smoke out of the wires, there should be evidence of a melted insulation, etc. Best suggestion would be to start taking the console apart and look. Good luck.
  5. I agree with Dave that the Reattas will be a cult/collector car if they are not already. Other non pony cars would include the Buick Grand National, some of the Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs like the Fiero.
  6. Yeah, know the feeling. My 17 Buick is in parts and boxes, shelves, etc......
  7. Can you post pictures of what your project looks like and then there might be understanding of what you need?
  8. Do you happen to have a GM part number?
  9. Barry, GREAT trailer and story. Love to see it in person some time. Might have some running lights if I can find them if you still need them. Larry
  10. I would keep it an enclosed trailer and put a big drip pan on the floor to catch the oil. I have on in my trailer that set up with a drip pan. A hole in the floor will let a lot of road dirt in in my opinion.

Looks like a clock from a Buick LeSabre about 1962?
  12. At one time I believe that the Camaro and Firebird were built in Norwood,OH(Cincinnati), California, and finally St Terese,Quebec. Location would possibly drive the supplier.
  13. Do an injector leak down test. That would start the discussion on if it was fuel related or electronics like the MAF of TPS.
  14. WOW, what a great looking cleaning. One note is you might consider using the new gray Loctite #5699 high performance sealer when you are assembling the engine. It is the current material that GM has been recommending to keep it from leaking. That is what I use and I have had great luck with no leaks.
  15. On some of the older vehicles the AntiLock braking system was used to measure tire pressure by looking at tire rotation. My understanding was the Gov't did not think that method was accurate enough and now requires the in tire sensors.
  16. Most of the systems on GM cars and probably other vehicles use a tire pressure sensor at the valve stem. It has a transponder in the wheel that sends a signal to a processor in the vehicle that monitors tire pressure. If the pressure is low, it alerts the driver. Here is a link that offers more information. Google Image Result for http://www.gmtpms.com/images/tpms_hand.jpg The one thing that you must be careful is having someone mounting and dismounting the tires that they do not hit the sensor and damage it.
  17. WOW, I have not seen those since my 1963 Buick Special
  18. I agree with msmazcol on the opinions on trailers where everyone has an opinion. I just bought my first enclosed trailer after a lot of discussion and research with other trailer owners and experience, my actual purchase was: 1. 18 or 20 foot trailer? Neither. I purchased a 24 ft trailer because of the number of comments about not having enough room to tie the vehicle down when it is in the trailer. This gets harder as we all get older and the extra room was welcome. 2. Leaf spring or torsion bar axles? Purchased leaf spring because that was what was available. 3. twin 3500 or 5000 lb axle capacity? Got the 5000 lb axles with brakes on both because if I want to load a larger vehicle did not want to be testing the limits and wanted to be sure it would stop. 4. Are there different types of trailer brakes to consider? Electric brakes are pretty much the standard 5. Radial tires or bias tires? I put radial tires on it, but bias ply are available. Looking for maybe a little less rolling resistance and maybe better fuel economy. 6. Regular, trailer rated, or light truck rated tires? Need to have trailer rated tires. 7. D ring rating? heavy rating on the D rings and want at least 8 of them so you have some ability to move the load for best weight distribution. 8. Location of interior lights? Do not want to have just interior lights. I also put exterior lights at the back of the trailer on the exterior for loading when it might be dark. I also put 110 volt fluorescent lights inside along with an inverter to run off the 12 volt system and and a battery in the trailer. Attached to the 12 volt deep cycle battery, I attached a solar panel on the roof to keep the battery charged. That way I can use the brighter 110 volt lights 9. Used or new? I found that the price for a used trailer was almost the price of a new one around here,....especially when you look at buying a used one and almost always want to replace the tires, brakes and probably look at the wiring. 10. Aluminum or steel? With the truck that you have, either will work. Aluminum trailer will be a multiple of a steel trailer in cost. A couple of other things that you might want to look at is the escape door on the drivers side. You might not need it for your present vehicle, but it does help if you need to have access to the drivers side for another vehicle to get in and out and it is not that expensive when you spec the trailer. Also look at putting a couple of vents in the roof for ventilation, not just one. E channel all around the inside is something that you might want to add if you would be carrying anything that would need to be tied upright. I also use an equalizing hitch. Good luck on your decision
  19. I would guess that the little speaker is a replacement for the original that filled up the big hole
  20. What an interesting site on Christmas lights. I also found the Mazda page interesting and informative. Did not know the history of the Mazda name. Wife and I still have the bubble lights and train sets that we purchased when we were married over 30 years ago and the kids (and us) enjoy that part that makes it Christmas. Like said earlier, the older ornaments seemed to have a lot more style than decorations today.

  22. I was working at Buick at the time of the Reatta launch and spent a fair amount of time at the Craft Centre and I do not remember anything about a Sceptre name. Also the Sloan Museum in Flint has a lot of my materials that I was sent from working on the launch including slides in the plant that show the build process.
  23. I am with Dandy Dave. I have a bunch of my wrenches on the wall so I do not have to dig to get them. It is also an quick inventory after a job to be sure nothing was left in the vehicle. Screwdrivers below the wrenches. Two large tool box roller chests for all of the other tools including things that are not used really frequently including my machinist tools.
  24. I am like Amphicarbuyer and my man cave is stacked with car parts, tools, stuff, and two cars + in a 3 car garage. There is always something happening out there as I also do not have a clean work bench. As to comments about the GM Heritage Center, it is a cool place and I have been fortunate also to visit. The far back of the facility has a work/repair area, the very front has offices and the BIG middle has all of the cars on display not behind rope where you can actually walk around the cars. Very COOL.
