  1. The operative step here is to get the system on a vacuum pump and draw it down for a while to get all of the old stuff out. You should then be able to put some new PAG oil in and new R134A in and it should work OK if everything else is good. GM was putting the new style rubber hoses that are required the new refrigerant from the middle to late 80's on depending on the car line. Just remember, don't forget the new oil.

    Spoke Finish

I used polyurethane on mine for the finish. I do not think the type of stain matters?
  3. Could be timing chain guide/tensioner
  4. Those pictures are not from the Buick plant. They are from the Fisher Body Plant 1 on S. Saginaw Street in Flint.
  5. I am guessing that you did not get all of the leads that came with the meter when it was new. The last meter that I had like yours, I seem to remember like Nick said there would be a red and black for battery and typically a green lead for the coil to check the dwell. I am guessing that the shunt lead might be used to check output for maybe the generator. What other scales are on the meter. That would give you an indication of the different tests that the tool is capable of doing.
  6. What are the leads and colors coming out of the meter?
  7. I prefer using the vacuum gauge when you can not find the mark, but after you get the maximum vacuum, back it off just a little bit so you do not get spark knock. You can try maximum vacuum, but may end up with the engine knocking on load or acceleration.
  8. Agree with Don. Fusable links were used for circuit protection, but newer cars use that or a maxi fuse. Some of them go up to 200 amps. The operative words here are circuit protection.
  9. My first question is if it was converted, where was the fuse(s)????? There should be circuit protection closest to the power source so if there is a wiring problem "out there" it would blow the fuse. When you get the wire(s) fixed, be sure to put in a fuse.
  10. Might try the Detroit Public Library-main branch. Their automotive historical collection might have what you want.
  11. Personally I agree with Nickelroadster. Just take an old sparkplug and cut the top off and tap the center and it works perfectly. The inside of the sparkplug shell has a taper that allows for a good seal.... at least on my compression tester. :-)
  12. Here is the 600 weight gear oil that I use. Lubriplate SPO-299. Usually about $12.00/ quart(2 pound plastic bottle) plus shipping. This is a link to their information and company addresses. If you call them they should be able to direct you to a local distributor. http://www.lubriplate.com/Online-Store/Automotive-Products/SPO-299-one-quart-bottle.aspx
  13. I would guess an aftermarket jack.
  14. WOW, I will need to go to Lansing and look at that.
  15. The first time that I remember seeing scissors jacks in cars was in the 60's and I think it was in Mustangs. Wat is the markings on the pad? That might be an indication of the application.

    United

WOW, cool truck. Can you post more pictures?
  17. Do you have a tech 2 scanner to check the readings of the temp sensors(or a scanner that can read the values of the sensors in real time?). The most likely cause would be the engine coolant temp sensor. The computer will not set the light if the sensor is between I think -40F and about 275F because that could be the operating temp. If you can get a scanner, check the readings of the two sensors before you start the engine MAT & ECT and they should be about the same. +_ 1 or 2 degrees. Replace the one that does not match the outside temp.
  18. Most of the lights look like truck lights for semi trailers or car carriers from the 50's or maybe 60's
  19. I would agree with Mark. Ash was plentiful in Michigan when those cars were built and it does not have the propensity to split. Think of baseball bats.
  20. Wayne, In one of your earlier posts you stated that trailers are usually good for year 1, & 2, but then year 3 comes around. What happens in year 3?. Thanks,
  21. Wayne, Must have missed something, but what happens in the third year of the trailer?
