America's long-forgotten automakers
Larry Schramm replied to Crusty Trucker's topic in General Discussion
Last time I looked at that information, it seemed like there were over 250 individuals that made more than one car. Only the manufacturers, those that made most of the parts including the powertrain, engine, transmission, rear axle survived for some time. The rest who were assemblers of purchased parts could not compete on price or quality and went out of business. -
I have a bad knock in the engine of my 1927 Nash Ajax

If you retard the timing with the engine running, if it is a rod knock, it could diminish in loudness or go away with the timing retarded. -

You might just give them a call and see if they have them, but do not list them on their website? -

Here is a comment that I saw in one of the Model T magazines. I have not tried it yet, but it does make sense and appears to be a simple test for proper clearance. Just be sure to put oil on the piece of paper before you put it on the rod cap. Here's a quote from Jim Lyons: "Put a small piece of newspaper that covers about 70% of the rod cap in place and tighten down the cap on the rod on the crank with the paper in place. If you can rotate the engine then it's still too loose.Sep 2, 2015 -

Would you post some pictures of the cables at the battery & at the starter? That will help us help you. -
The grease fitting on the end is an Alemite grease fitting. You can buy a grease gun for this type of fitting or change to a modern type. Your choice. https://www.huyett.com/a336

Old Invoice - 1969 Chevrolet Impala
Larry Schramm replied to STEVE POLLARD's topic in General Discussion
I would be fairly sure it would be three on the tree as standard. I was told years ago that if you bought a vehicle with no options, GM was selling the car at or below cost. They made all of their money on the options. -

What is the correct fuel pressure according to the service manual? 4 PSI sounds a little high? -

Have you checked the clearance of all of the rod & main bearings? Also the thrust bearings for the crankshaft. Don't forget that you might have an issue of cam chucking. Just some thoughts. -
Have you tried a local locksmith?

My wife and I were in Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy about 5 years ago on 11-11 at 11:11 in the morning. Armistice Day, the signing of the end of WWI. Being there and walking the beaches of Normandy was a significant emotional event. The American Cemetery at Omaha Beach is a must see if you travel to Normandy. We were humbled to walk on that hallowed ground. Seeing the Commonwealth Cemeteries along with the German Cemeteries is a very worthwhile experience. They are all different. We thank those those that, "All gave some and some gave all".

Unusal wheel setup - car in Victoria, Australia - twenties era
Larry Schramm replied to John E. Guitar's topic in What is it?
OK, so how does that work on the vehicle? If the planetary gear carrier is attached to the axle does the car have movement? I do not think the car would move. What else could be attached to the axle and how would it work? -
If you want to check the ignition system, here is how it is done. It is actually in a service procedure of the day. Vehicles of that era had issues with the coil packs going bad. Easy way to check the integrity of the coils is to purchase 3 of these spark testers. Remove one of the spark plug wires for each of the coils, put the spark plug wire on the tester top, clip the tester onto the coil tower and then start the car. If the car will idle for about 10 minutes without starting to miss or stumble, the coils and ignition system is fine. If it starts to miss/stumble, look at which tester is not sparking. That is the bad coil. There were two types of coils used in that era. The single coil pack made by Magnavox will require the complete coil pack to be replaced. The other style is three individual coils made by Delco are replaceable individually. You only need to replace the bad coil. Also when looking at the coil area, be sure to check the ground that is under the coil pack. Make sure you remove, clean, and retighten the surfaces on both ends of the wire. It will save you other issues.

Probably not able to use some type of sealer. It should be fixed correctly. If the crack is in the cylinder wall, you can have the cylinder sleeved. Other places, you might be able to have someone weld the crack, but that takes a very skilled person. There is also stitching the crack.
