  1. Well, when people talk about “transistor” radios, it’s usually a contrast to tube sets. Pretty sure your ‘90 Riv doesn’t have tubes, as my ‘90 Reatta doesn’t either... lol Yes, dropping the ohms too low equals higher power consumption and possible heat issues in the power amp transistors. That said, if the front speakers are wired in series, simply add the impedance of the two. In other words, if the 4” and the tweets are both 4 ohm and in series, the circuit would be 8 ohms. That would not be a significant difference in operation. Now, I don’t KNOW that it’s wired that way, but it’s my best guess with given data. I need to replace speakers in the Reatta too, so I’ll try to look it up tonight to be sure.
  2. Well, I’m pretty sure that claiming some special form of knowledge or fabrication of your own definitions of terms to argue against data that came from Buick’s own literature is a classic example pretentiousness. I’ve been driving a ‘56 Buick for over 25 years. If YOU can’t feel the difference between low GEAR and drive, maybe YOURS is broken. 🤷🏼‍♂️
  3. What are you talking about? My bicycle is a 5-speed. It doesn’t shift automatically, and technically it has sprockets, not gears, but when I tell people it’s a 5-speed, they somehow seem to understand without getting pretentious. Look: GEARS!!! 🙄
  4. I can post the entire service manual and nobody will read it, so I'll just post this snip. Direct drive and low gear. Sounds like two speeds to me.
  5. Why, pray tell, is it not a 2 speed? It has two speeds...
  6. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the continental kit, but those fender skirts are hideous! The sweepspear accentuates the lines of the wheel opening, and the skirts ruin the whole flow. They look great on other body styles, but they just don't work here.
  7. Free?!? I thought the BCA paid AACA for the virtual real estate this forum occupies? Either way, the statement said repeated violations may result in revocation of AACA membership, and since I’m not a member off the AACA (the group is a bit uptight for my tastes), I really don’t think they will affect me much. That said, I think it was in bad form and showed poor forethought to throw that in our faces. Regardless of whether or not the BCA compensates AACA for our bandwidth, the AACA is generating ad revenue every time I log in. I’m more bothered by Asian spammers than Old Tank’s electric fuel pump... lol
  8. Unless it’s leaking profusely, don’t fret it. We drove ours 20 years before we got an overhaul.

  10. Ok, Mudbone already did... This is a crossing light I modified for my dad...
  11. Perhaps a better why of saying it is first digit is series, second is body style... lol Not much difference between ‘49 & ‘50, maybe this will help: https://www.hometownbuick.com/buick-models/1950-buick-models/

  13. I’m glad someone has. I get long wait times. With the large variety of colors & materials used over the years, I understand not stocking many materials. What I don’t appreciate is being treated like a jerk because the material they sent wasn’t even close to the samples, the quality was awful, and the replacement material was just as bad, if not worse. My upholstery shop had to borrow my phone because SMS quit answering his calls. I’ll do every car for the rest of my life with the wrong material before SMS sees a dime from me.
  14. As I recall, body numbers are not model specific, so what you have would be an early ‘53 car built in ‘52...
  15. I think we have a spare stamped plate somewhere. If you find a good cast piece, but still need the center plate, let me know.
  16. Wow, this thread is up to 13 pages? I don’t remember seeing this one before, but I’m not going through 13 pages to find out! lol
  17. Wow, I hope this car goes to someone who knows Buicks better than the seller, or at least goes to a buyer that’s better at research...
  18. I pulled a lot of parts off this Roady a few months ago. It had some pretty good tools in it, including a nice tire repair kit, and a 12v impact kit.
  19. I remember when Kansas first started the K-Tags, they had front license plate frames with transponders built-in for cars with incompatible windshields. Great for a state that doesn’t require front plates, huh? lol No idea if they still have anything like that today...
  20. Winter is when I get work done. Firewood to heat the shop is cheaper than the electricity for a/c.
