Rail Cars

Just wanting to see if anyone is willing to share rail car photos ? I find it very interesting that many manufacturers made these and was hoping to see the many varieties of body styles that may have been available pre or post war.

Here's a Dodge Brothers sample :

Work does get in the way but at the moment though I am making final preparations for a trip to England and France.  Mostly for family related things but some of the more important parts will be going to The Great Dorset Steam Fair  -   http://www.gdsf.co.uk/   - and various other old transport related things.  Maybe Portsmouth Historic Dockyard  -  http://www.historicdockyard.co.uk/.  . We are also going to the east of France to visit the grave of my partner's uncle.  He was a bomber crew member who was shot down in July 1944.  Not too far away, by coincidence, there is a Bugatti rally happening in Molsheim  - http://www.tourisme-alsace.com/en/218006714-Bugatti-festival-on-Sunday.html   - and again not too far away are the big museums at Mulhouse -  http://www.citedutrain.com/?lang=en   -   http://www.citedutrain.com/?lang=en

Probably means less to US residents but over the next couple of years there are quite a few World War One centenary events happening. By coincidence we will be there at the right time for a New Zealand event  -  http://ww100.govt.nz/100th-anniversary-of-the-battle-of-the-somme-international-commemoration  I distant uncle of mine was there in 1916.

Someone in Queensland  (State of Australia)  may be able to access black&white photos of some of the pre-1914 Napiers which were converted into rail cars and existed for some decades.  The largest 65 and 90 horsepower models were comparable or larger than the 66 horsepower Pierce Arrow.   Though the fuel cost on the road may have been only incidental to the original owners who had large land holdings,  but the miles per gallon would have been much less running steel flanged wheels on steel rails because of reduced friction.   A wheat farmer in the northern Wimmera here in Victoria , Orvil Cheville   ( spelling?) told a mutual friend that a 60 ton B-double semi-trailer rig used the same quantity of diesel for the trip to the same destination on the coast as had typically taken for a 5000 ton trail load before they closed the train service.

Odd this thread came up now, so I'll treat it as serendipity and appeal for advice/suggestions...

Mainesteam on smokstak is looking for a Wisc D4 (6cyl 53/4x61/2=1013 cid) or the smaller D1 and D2=844, D3=927, from the  late 20s/early30s period; one of the places gasoline engines this size were used were in gasoline locomotives and larger gasoline engined railcar coaches etc...

For those railfans reading this, I know of narcoa.org, but are there any other railroad sites that have such old eqpmt forums that'd be a good place to post an inquiry---not necessarily just period railcars but also heavier RR const/repair etc eqpmt in geberal??

Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

Bud,

it is simply coincidence as far as timing of this thread by the way..

I just happened to be studying Dodge Brothers service bulletins and came across some literature that peaked my curiosity to ask if anyone had photos of other makers to share.

Here's a small sample of the DB literature but no mention of engine types unfortunately.
