$847.00 for a tank of gas

Bill Stoneberg

I saw it too. but do you feel sorry for him? I figure that's the price he agreed to pay for that luxury. If he hopped a flight from here to Las Vegas he'd be out much more than the 800.00 for a tank of gas. It's his choice.

BUT for the gas companies , I say ...The bastards!

I work with a couple of guys that are into boats..........let me tell you, they spend some serious money. They are forever breaking/fixing something on them. I'll stick with my old cars any day.........

I was happy to buy diesel in MN today...considerably less expensive than here at home.

That same fellow is probably paying $300 per month for a boat slip. At first I was shocked, but big RV's, buses and semi's all have big tanks that can cost similar amounts to fill.

PS if you do the math (he told how many gallons it was) he was also paying close to $4.00 per gallon at a marina.....it would have been less on the street.

The average over the road truck holds around 250 gallons of fuel. 2 tanks at 125 gallons each but it can vary. I have seen tanks as small as 80 gallons per side up to 175 per side. Fuel this morning here was around $285.9 and most of the time drivers don't like to get too low. Probably costs around $350 per day for the average driver for fuel. One thing about filling a boat at a marina he was sure to pay at least a 75 cent per gallon premium to fill right on the water probably more.

$128 last Wednesday in the big, red Dodge, and that was with my $0.60 discount (which dropped the price to just over $3/gallon).

I used to say that higher gas prices were ultimately a good thing for America, and that it wouldn't bother me. Well, it is starting to bother me. Not so that I'll complain, but the pinch is more significant than I expected it to be a few years ago.

I just paid $49 to top off my 64 Riviera (about 15 gallons). The drive in the old Buick made it

all worth while.

Dave--

Was also at the race yesterday with my wife.--- WHERE WERE YOU SITTING??

Was talking with some guys sitting right behind us from the Cincinnati area.

Big Bengal fans!!! We were sitting in stand A, Box 18, row S- seats 15,16.

We had round trip of 348 miles to south suburbs of Chicago-- cost 38.80-- $3.55/gal unleaded. Averaged 32.1 mpg on 97 Skylark w/3.4 V-6 @ 75 mph. Thought that was pretty good for pushing 3000+ car @ 70-75 mph. Now wonder what mileage coulda' been if I could ever train myself to set cruise at a steady 55-60 on hwy. Yeah, like that will ever happen!!!!

Cost $60 to fill my 75 LeSabre w/350 from just under 1/2 tank-- pumped a hair over 17/gal @ $3.45-- Don't even want to think what it would cost if I let the tank run down. 26 gals-- YIKES!!! Now I wonder how much the 69 Riv GS is going to cost this summer as she is on a diet of Premium and racing fuel to keep the octane numbers up!! OMG!!!!! Summer cruising is going to be

EXXX--PENNNN---SIVE!!! Gonna Brink's truck to follow us to the pumps!!!

Gas is a little less expensive down here. Premium is 3.19 at a generic station and 3.23 at

a major.

5,000 miles @ 13 mpg = 384 gallons say 400 gallons of gas.

400 * 3.50 = $1400 400 * 4.00 = $1600 400 * 4.50 = $ 1600

WOW !

It still will not cost as much as my trip or your trip to Batavia.

While you are trying to get depressed add in the cost of lodging, meals and booze...

You are in the $.25 per mile range...just think of it as dropping a quarter in a slot once a minute...plink...plink...plink...

We should not be rewarding thieves like this but I am going anyway.

My 500 seats are in Section 19 of the Paddock stands. They're about 50 yards before the yard of bricks, under cover fortunately (especially this year). I was directly across from A.J. Foyt's pit this year.

My Brickyard seats are in Stand A, Section 4, not far from where you were. They're directly in line with the "Pit-Out" line.

Well said. As much as it costs to restore these cars, fuel prices shouldn't be our biggest complaint.

I've got just under 1400 miles to Bellevue...then heading south to Lincoln City, OR before heading home...putting gas in two vehicles. It's the cost of the hobby.

Recently the WSJ had an article on the high cost of the very liberal social welfare policies in Sweden. I'm guessing Denmark/Germany are similar. Don't get me wrong, I'm not passing judgement but there is no free lunch and the piper WILL be paid one way or another. Super high gas taxes are just one way of doing it.......Bob

while I understand your pain at the pump, consider there are a lot greater distances to travel in the US when going cross country. At the same time we do make that choice to travel cross country , or not.

But 25% sales tax! and up to 68% income tax!!, where is the incentive to work?, or to make an honest living. I thought Canada was bad with marginal tax ( top rate paid) around 50%. They say it pays for public health, but we can wait in line for a doctor for years, and major joint replacement up to a year, and its not uncommon to drop dead waiting for heart surgery. Just paying, doesn't guarantee access to good medical care.

Anyway, on the topic of gas prices, we pay about $1.25 $C for a L today here in Manitoba, Canada, that about equivalent to $4.20 US/US gal I think.

we have no incentive to work

6 weeks paid vacation and a 37h work week.

No body want's to work more cause of taxes.

No seriously prices, wages and taxes cannot be compared with the US.

Have my nephew here from Sacremento and he's found that if he times the exchange rate by 1½ things start making a little sense.

But then again he's getting deported next week, as he's not from the EU.

Totally rediculous

I remember filling my empty gas tank on my Karmann Ghia when I first started to drive, for under $4.00, I think gas was about 32 cents a gallon. Those were the good old days!.

So you can date an old Buick guy by asking him how much he paid for a gallon of gas when he first started to drive.

All kidding aside, the Met is great on gas......10 1/2 gal tank will take around $31.00 to fill @ $3.00 gal and I can use it for cruise nights and back & forth to work half the summer. I took my 62 Buick out Friday night and used $10.00 of gas going to a cruise night 20 miles from my house. This was the first time I used the Buick this year and it really felt good driving it.
