The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975, edited by John Gunnell states 1,070 1956 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country station wagons built.  At $4,417, it was the most expensive model in the New Yorker line, above the convertible ($4,136) and even the 300B ($4,242).   In fact, the 1956 Cadillac Series 62 sedan was $4,241; the New Yorker station wagon was in heady territory.

At last, someone who shows the car well and tells you that he just put three grand into the car to justify the up and down change in price. I like wagons and this one is just unusual enough that I find it very appealing. GLWTS

This Chrysler is a less expensive way to buy a survivor wagon than any Chevy Nomad, Pontiac Safari, Olds 88, or a Buick Estate.  It looks very tempting but I just don't have the room. GLWTS

We didn't pay that much more than this asking price for our really nice '56 Chrysler Windsor wagon. And as much as it pains me to admit it, it's the best car in our collection in terms of reliability, quality, ease of use, and ability to attract attention. The '50s Chryslers are tangibly better cars than most of their competition.

Looks tempting to me as well...   however, it clearly needs some additional sorting AND the OCD part of me would want to fix the rear-end damage...  And if I did that, well then do I paint?  Then it's starting to look like the "water is rising fast" --- hope it finds a good home.

How has this not sold yet?

Depends upon who buys it and where they are located, with possible transmission issues , still?? and the damage under the tail gate ( how did that happen? ) and was anything else affected besides the sheet metal? Not a small car and to pay to transport it to ?  A haul to the east coast would not be inexpensive. And maybe at least $4,000?  I am not knocking the car just trying to be realistic. I love Chryslers from that time period and completely agree with Matt Harwood's comments. It is still not dry in many parts of the USA to get a car hauled to . this coming from someone on the East coast.

Watching the video, there are "smoke signal" staccato puffs coming out one tail pipe.  I'm guessing the big 354" Hemi has a cylinder problem in one of them;  hydraulic lifter or valve being most likely.   That could be stopping the car from selling.  Anyone here lifted a Hemi cylinder head out of a car lately?  I USED to be capable.  I honestly no longer am that strong!

Other than that I'd guess the price very fair but I'm viewing it from 1500 miles away.
