A very similar rotary "plow" is still used on the tracks over Donner Summit in the sierras when there is a heavy winter.

yes it is a silver ghost.......and the Russians converted it to tracks and skis for the Russian leader,a french military engineer by the name of Adolfe  Kegresse [who was also the personal driver for the tsar] designed the modifications.......he was the inventor of half tracks and dual clutch transmissions

The earliest known propeller-driven sleigh is credited to Igor Sikorsky (1889-1972) who, before he became famous for his helicopter designs, was seen in late 1909 motoring through the snow-packed streets of Kiev – not in an early automobile, but in a propeller-powered sleigh with a rear-mounted engine. This Buick was photographed in Standish, Michigan, on January 12, 1911.

@nata 'wood gasifier' unit .......Norway and Sweeden were cut of from fuel in the war i understand ......and they came up with the wood gasifier units.....to charcoalize fairly green cut wood and the gases piped to the carb and the gas engine would run ......but not much power ......for about 10 miles on a woodbox full,Volvo and others  produced tens of thousands of units

Some mostly forgotten great events with snow vehicles to look back on was the INTERNATIONAL 500 snowmobile races .....they were a joint  Canada USA international event with the races crossing the border 500 miles absolutely grueling 4 days from Winnipeg Canada to Minneapolis USA.......from 1966 into the mid 1970s......they have tried to bring it back .....but stalled by border and customs.......the videos show some great vintage car and snowmobiles.....this video will make appreciate being warm  lol.......youtube has videos of most years of the races....and they got very big in turnout numbers as the years went on......

I remember that being on local TV every year. Was a big deal then.
I have a co-worker whos dad did this in the early 70's.
Fred Jillson. Factory Chaparral rider.
Raced all over the country on snow and grass tracks in the summer.
Him and his crew pretty much invented IFS for snowmobiles back then.
