  1. And the fenders wold be less expensive.
  2. My guess is that you want to relocate the distributor body by 60 or 90 degrees from where it is now. Providing the year, make, model and a clearer description of what you are trying to accomplish will generate a flurry of replies.
  3. Icing will cause the engine power to fade away as the ice forms. Once the engine stalls or is shut off, rising heat will melt the ice and it will run again. It doesn't have to be below freezing for this to happen.
  4. Best new car that's not on the market.
  5. It looks pretty gosh darn good to me. The pursuit of perfection impedes progress.
  6. I'm on the same page except for one vowel. I think it's a shame to butcher something that's still in reasonable original condition but the owner should do whatever he, she, it or other, (please specify), wants. U.S. made cars made after 1957 probably should be crushed. No matter how "original" or not, a car resurrected from the dead is better than melting it down into something that will be scrap next year.
  7. Cleaning is usually accomplished by putting the electrodes in an acid solution or acidic mixture or (briefly) reversing the electroplating circuit.
  8. Perhaps there's a useful tidbit in one of these. https://www.pfonline.com/articles/troubleshooting-bright-nickel-processes-how-to-identify-the-problem https://www.sharrettsplating.com/blog/electroplating-defects-issues/
  9. That looks like a fun place for the kids to play in.
  10. Or better. Some "restorations" gleam but can barely get on and off a trailer. I think your's is good for Perth to Sydney. I'd still pack some spanners, fluids and spares.
  11. I hope they appreciate what they have and what you've done. I challenge anyone and everyone to to prove they have a better car than that you have built. Your work is the most thorough, systematic, complete and speedy of any I've ever seen. The finished product that you've, (mostly), done by yourself sets you well apart from most everyone else. Half of knowing something is knowing that you don't have the necessary skill or kit. What few things you have sub contracted to experts in those fields is testament to your goal of perfection. Congratulations. Nice work in every detail.
  12. To prevent damage to the threads, remove the petcock, install a pipe nipple and start with a drill that will fit within the pipe nipple. Turn the drill by hand or with limited torque to reduce the likelihood of breaking the drill. A larger drill might be used carefully when the passage is opened. 7/16"/11mm is the largest drill that will pass through a hole with 1/4" pipe thread.
  13. I think then freeze plug should have a 1/4" hole drilled in it. Je pense que le bouchon de gel devrait avoir un trou de 1/4 de pouce percé. When the cylinder head was removed would have been a good time to look into the cooling system, scrape and vacuum it. A tube on the end of a compressed air nozzle and/or turning a drill bit by hand in the petcock hole may clear the drain passage but do what you can to keep deposits from going through the radiator. Both white vinegar and muriatic acid will dissolve rust but muriatic acid must be neutralized afterwards. keep the radiator out of the equation while flushing the cooling system. The freeze plugs under the manifold could be removed/replaced to view a sample of the cooling jackets.
  14. The outer race may have been spinning in the housing. Check the fit.
  15. One advantage to a pressurized cooling system is that the water that leaves the engine forces water through the radiator. Suction and pressure work in unison. An open/unpressurized system is more prone to collapsing a suction hose if that, (radiator), passage is restricted.
  16. Vinyl is final but looks out of place if it's glossy. The remains of my two leather back rests must have been things of beauty when new. The door and side panels look like they are some sort of, (black), impregnated canvas which I would choose over anything glossy. My car is a ratty "survivor" but I don't loose any sleep when the grands dump an ice cream on the back seat. So........ In addition to making the spoke copy lathe, (and other wheel jigs And fixtures), this guy made the tanks and power supply for electroplating? Woodwork, metal work painting and plating. Damn few are so capable.
  17. What upholstery material are you using?
  18. That's extremely humble and generous coming from the guy who, (among many other talents), found the tools to make the tools to fix the tools necessary to make the machines and fixtures that simultaneously turns six spokes. I'm sure you've forgotten more than most of us will ever know.... Or did I say that already? Edited September 14, 2023 by Mattml430 (see edit history) 10
  19. Me too but even sweeping the floor I'd be in the way.
  20. What's your definition of "restore"? How much time and money to you have to spare? What's the end goal? Whatever parts it needs will probably need to be custom made. Embarking on a "full restoration" is an endless rabbit hole. Anything shiny and new will stick out like a sore thumb unless it blends in with everything else that's shiny and new. An "unrestored car" often gets more attention at shows than those that gleam inside and out. I would concentrate on making it mechanically sound, enjoy using it and let the next owner completely empty their wallet. That's my take but it's your, (nice looking find), and you should do as you wish. Nat
  21. The flat flanges and gasket should be tightened incrementally and uniformly but will probably work fine if that is neglected. With the protruding flare in the center, tightening one side before the other will tilt the flange against the gasket on the first side and bend the flange when the second is tightened. Best might be to use self locking nuts, (not nylon), and take care to keep an even pressure on each side.
