Sliger Man

Recommended Posts

1925 (edit- now determined to be 1927) Buick for sale. This car was driven into a stall in a barn back in the 1970's. It was then partial dissembled for another car. It looks as though the engine , transmission, and running gear are complete. Taking offers. Take the  whole car  or possibly part out. Also have lots more parts soon to be posted.

in 1925 they had a starter generator in the same unit in 26 they went to separate starter and separate generator

the big pipe or bar between the chassis rails front of car makes it a master

and the tapered water pipe on head is master

looks very tidy would make some great spares

thanks tony

Darren,

This car has a firewall ID tag.  It is stamped as follows YY-XX, where the YY is the last 2 digits of the year, and the XX is the model number.

FYI,

6 bolt heads on the rear axle is a Master (12 on a standard just like the front wheel)

Master engine crank goes thru the radiator, Standard below

Masters have a tube between the front wheels at the front of the springs.  Standards do not have this tube.

1925 and earlier is a combination starter/Generator and the shaft goes thru packing on both ends of the water pump (so you have 2 places for water to leak from.

1926 and newer has a blank plate on the back of the water pump and separate starter and generators.

The "slightly rounded front radiator shell was changed for 1926 and carried into 1927.  1925 shells are a little flatter on the front.

1925 had the bar between the centers of the headlamps, and in 1926, the bar went below the headlamps and carried into 1927.  This way the left and right headlight buckets were the same.  They also added the screw in the headlight bezels with is not on the 1925 models.

Airfilter for the carburator basically added in 1926

1926 they stopped putting "Buick" script on the demountable rim wedges.  They also changed from brass hubcaps to aluminum.

So you have to look really hard to see if 1926 or 27.

1927 received the thermostat in the top of the radiator, so unless someone changed the radiator, I think this is a 1927 Master.

If you have chassis tag numbers (drivers wheel well on the chassis) or the motor numbers we can verify with this as well.   Thanks for posting.  Maybe you can change the title of the post.

Hugh

hi  Hugh I do believe that the bar between the head light changed mid year on 25 cars from middle to bottom as we have 25 cars with both options and it was changed for the reasons given by you do you now of any 25 with the bar at the bottom or maybe it was a new Zealand thing

still a good set up he's got would have loved something like that when I did my car up  thanks tony

Hi Tony, I have never seen the bar below the headlamps in the states on a 1925, but I have not been around the 1925 Buicks as long as some others.  Could very likely be a New Zealand thing or someone found all they needed to make the lights work again.  I think if your 1925 car were 2 years old and you knocked the headlights off, you would have received 1926/27 headlamps from the dealer just about anywhere in the world.  The replacement radiator assembly in the big book of parts is the same for the 1924 6 cyl, 1925/26/27 Master, even though the original 1924 and 1925 shell would have been flatter on the front.

1925 lamps have the fluted reflector and flat glass.  That should have changed to fluted glass and non fluted reflectors when the bar moved below the lamps as well.

Would make a fun depot / station wagon if the doors could be located.  I make it sound easier then in reality it would be but you have a good foundation and if the initial cost is not too high, then a person could do the wood over a few years and just be creative since I don't think there was a Buick depot car/wagon.   Being a master is interesting.

There are still quite a few cars out there, we just have to wait for them to pop up as they do - it seems - every month.

Or make it without doors....

A lot of Station Wagons have pretty much all wood doors -- like a  Model A Ford and even a Packard Station Sedan -- if you wanted to Buickify it, there´s a great photo of a 20s Buick for sale on Walt Miller´s site(autolit.com)...but it´s like 8 bucks. Thanks for all that info Hugh.

In some cases such as this, I will always wonder what Buick engineers and designers had in mind, making so many variations on a part like this.

Thanks again,

Don

Just this past week I uncovered this photo of my uncle leaning out of a 1927 Buick. My grandfather bought a new Buick every year since around 1917 with the exception of a 1930's Cadillac which he hated and traded in almost immediately. Note that there's a "HOOVER" badge in the radiator; he was a staunch Republican.

The car in your photograph is a 1924 6 cylinder. Osgood style headlight lenses with the centered headlight bar, flatter front on the radiator shell and taller narrower tires indicate high pressure style. All these items says 1924. Lighter body color may indicate a model 51 Brougham Sedan.(Sagebrush Green)
