  1. Great edition. Those who haven’t signed up should re consider. I also forward to potential new members.
  2. Years ago One of our club members in Panama City had a 30’s Packard sedan with a 350 and AC. It looked totally stock and he and his wife would drive it to Michigan and back. He was certainly wealthy, from a large city and didn’t appear stupid. Also didn’t Bill Harrah drive a Jeep Wagon with a V 12 Jag in it?
  3. I agree with Steve. Without the condition issues that would be a $2500-3000 sign. Maybe Mike McCandless will comment. He is in the business.
  4. Put me down for both. I spent close to 30 years restoring and showing cars all over the USA. I have only shown at one Concours since 2000 and do not miss it. My most fun now is touring with a unrestored 41 Cad 63 or my 380SL, also unrestored. It is also fun to jump into a C1 or C2 for a run to Starbucks early in the morning.
  5. Also check your state laws carefully Some states have different requirements for antique cars. I am told that in Texas if your car did not come with a front license plate holder you are exempt. If all else fails you may wish to follow my plan for the past 50 years. Simply don't run front plates.
  6. Mike, give us the full photo of the drag race. Looks like your family sponsored one of the cars.
  7. "You hit the nail on the head" as my father used to say!!
  8. Interesting story on the buyer who had a taxable income of $28K in 2015 and was a millionaire 8 months later thanks to starting multiple You Tube channels including a gaming channel. I suspect this purchase will be written off as a business expense and be featured on his automotive channel. In that case the more you pay the bigger the write off. You have to admire his innovativeness.
  9. This Biarritz just sold for $410K on BaT. Previous BaT record for a Eldorado Biarritz was $170K It was a NICE car!!! Is this just two bidders with too much money? I haven't seen one sell for over $200K in quite a while.
  10. What is the chance your dad went to the same school that I did? Can you imagine telling todays kids they have to walk 1-2 miles to school? Today Moms drive the kids 3 blocks to school. Seriously this thread is a great illustration of the advancement of technology in less than a century and now some of us are driving EV's. I can barely remember when my dad farmed entirely with horses. He bought his first tractor in 1944 or 1945 but kept his favorite team of horses until they died of old age.
  11. The little guy on the left went on to become president of one of the largest insurance companies in the USA. Second from the left owned a multi state construction company and four attained post graduate college degrees. I don't think the education system has improved much.
  12. Thanks to Gunsmoke for jogging my memory. Here is a school photo from 1945 where I went to school through eighth grade. Although you mentioned we had to walk uphill both ways you forgot to mention that it was snowing. At least I have a car in my photo. Life was simple back then. We didn’t get electricity at our home or school until I was in 3rd grade. Back then kids had friends and talked to each other.
  13. The 6v in my 32 Cadillac was purchased in 2012 and has been on a Battery Tender since new. Still works fine but I am not holding my breath.
  14. In the late 70's I purchased the basket case 38 v-16 with factory automatic transmission from Ron Van Geldren. The car sat outside at an abandoned restoration facility in Main with the hood off, top down, heads off lying on the ground for several winters. The hood, side panels and grill were missing. I walked around Hershey with a parts wanted egg crate sign for 9 years and never found the needed parts. (I did make a lot of Cadillac friends) Our younger members have no concept of life before the internet, eBay and make specific forums. One evening I was going through the November Hemmings looking for replacement glass for the gas gauge on my 58 Barritz and found a cluster for sale in Michigan. I called the seller and purchased it and we started talking Cadillacs. As was my routine I asked him if he knew anyone in the area who might have the 38 parts I needed. The phone went dead for what seemed like an eternity and he finally came back with " when I was a kid dad had a 38 90series sedan. I remember him coming home one night and telling mom that he had purchased a front clip because he knew there were no parts available for this series and this would be important if he ever had a front end mishap." I am going to visit mom this week end and I will check the garage. The clip was still there and his family was going to Omaha for Thanksgiving and he delivered the parts to Des Moines. Sometimes you get lucky. If I were 20 years younger I would follow 63RedBrier's advice.
  15. I think the interior is the same but i have been wrong before.
  16. The primary difference between the 38-40 75 series and 90 series is the grill, Hood side panels, hub caps horn button and some minor badging along with the engine. If my memory is correct several years ago the CCCA determined that members had 5 more 38 v-16 conv- coupes than the factory built in 38. It should be noted that the grill in the front clip for sale is a 75 series grill and not a 90 series
  17. Thank you Tom and AJ. I haven't been this excited about a thread since Ed rehabilitated the White. It was great to be able to ride along with the two of you. This was always on my bucket list but at 82 it has passed me by. Are you going to do this again???
  18. Over the past 40 years I have purchased at least a half dozen cars at auction. Not one was without serious problems. If you are not a VIP seller and . your PU reserve is not reasonable you will get 15 seconds of exposure for your NS I don't care what you are selling I will never buy from a auction house again. Purchased two cars on BaT in the past two years and love the format. Both have been absolutely as described. Just my TCW
  19. I agree with Ed. I can see where the challenge could be addicting but I'll vote for vintage touring. Just returned from #2 for the year with 3 to go.
  20. At 82 number 0ne on my list is making it to 83. So far this year attended the AACA Founders tour in Alabama and just returned from the VMCCA Chrome Glidden in Grand Island, Nebraska. Planning on the Sentimental tour this fall. Unfortunately the Sentimental, Glidden and Hershey all fall too close together when you live in Texas. Wish I still had the motorhome!!!
  21. Terry you have been one step ahead of 99% of us for a long time and we appreciate your "sharing" and educating us. Enjoyed seeing you on the Founders Tour
  22. Best wishes for a complete recovery although the mental aspect may be more long lasting than the physical. After several near misses I put the bike away 15 years ago and now do my riding in the gym.
  23. When Ed started this thread I assumed it would be a comical satire of AJ's RV trip and interesting to me as I recently sold my last RV. Now you have me interested in Sterns Knight and early Jags. Like Bobinvirginia my knowledge base continues to expand. Stay in good health as most of us have a lot to learn. Thanks to all
  24. Happy to see you back and sorry to hear about your daughter. My youngest was diagnosed with the progressive from of Multiple Sclerosis at age 24 and is now 42. Watching her deteriorate hasn't been easy. Enjoy your good health while you have it.
