The real question is “Does the market have staying power or is this a bubble”? I’m betting on the former This sale is a “outlier” and won’t be repeated soon in my opinion. If you are a billionaire and want to own the best this is pocket change. The nice thing about this sign as compared to a car, no maintenance!!

Thank you to all who replied. I find items like this a snap shot of the past. You can only imagine what it would cost to ship a truck body back to the factory today.

I have a box of well over 100 sheets of receipts, business letters and order forms from the 1870’s to the 1930’s that I hate to send to recycle. Any ideas appreciated

As you can tell I am back in my CC storage unit this afternoon 1956 backlit Oldsmobile dealer display unit. It was in its original tattered box when I purchased it. Needs to go to a Oldsmobile collector. 19 by 25

Neat paper advertising for “The Big Mercury For 1956”. 42 by 14 and never folded. Did this go in a frame for showroom use? Sorry for the reflection but I’m not taking it out of the plastic until I frame it.

Finally came across the companion to my Esso “Tony” lithograph That I have posted before. 42 by 84 on heavy oil cloth. I suspect it was hung inside considering it’s condition. Purchased 20 years ago at the “Indy Add Show”

Recently purchased this for the frame but my wife likes the reverse painted scene. On the back side of the frame it is dated 1918. We’re they producing this technique back in 1918? Thanks

Great frames/lithographs. Mobile was good to me also with a addition to my brewiana collection. I agree that vintage oval frames are hard to find.

I appreciate the desire to be environmentally friendly and have recycled for longer than I can remember. When you look at what is going on in China, India and Africa it probably doesn't matter much however I vote for non-plastic.

If my memory is correct a similar plastic Buick sign from the Josh Stewart collection sold this week end for $250, The provenance doesn't mean much to me, it's still PLASTIC!!!

I have used nothing but synthetics in everything for over 20 years. My Dodge 12 valve (now gone) is still running strong at over 500K and my Honda daily driver is sitting at 235K. Oil analysis shows no unusual wear. I have no way of knowing if synthetics helped or not. You can frequently buy synthetics on sale for little more than conventional oil

Decisions have consequences. I am sure you made a profit whenever you sold. The value could have gone to sh-- like GE stock which has lost 90% of its value over the past decade. As Kenny Rodgers said "you need to know when to hold em and when to fold em". The only reason I'm sitting with a garage full of signs is I was never organized enough or had the time to bring them to Hershey. The kids will probably send them to the curb. I would agree with Mike, In my opinion Richmond Auctions has evolved as the premier Memoribilia auction in the country. They have a great grading system that remote buyers can understand and bid with confidence. Kudos

I think this sign has a far wider appeal than Durant owners. Like Steve M discovered if you are not monitoring the Memorabilia auctions on a day to day basis you will be shocked by the price trends. Most sign collectors are not affected by swings in the economy and this is "disposable" money that is being invested in a asset that has appreciated rapidly over the last 50 years. As I mentioned in a previous thread I recently turned down $10 K for a Pontiac sign that I paid $180 for in the early 80's. One hundred and eighty dollars in 1980 would have a purchasing power of $647 today.

Take some time to get familiar with Bring a Trailer. In addition to this forum BaT would be a listing option and will only cost you $99 even if it doesn't sell. You would have to list it as a "Project".. It is important to the potential buyer to know that the engine is not seized and turns over freely. Eight years ago I coated my new floor with two part Epoxy Coat. Commercial estimate was $ 4 per sq ft at that time. My cost was about $0.50 per sq ft. It has held up well except for one small area where brake fluid leaked on it. Look at the Garage Journal Forum for current information.

I agree with you Ed. The front end, side mounts and hood side panels are more attractive on the Buick as compared to the Pontiac.

Paul I couldn't have said it better. I have toured with them for years. Steve had a great sense of humor. Very fortunate to have joined them on the Buzzy tour two weeks before they passed from Covid.

This GM body style was very attractive in 34. When we tour or attend a local show in the 34 Pontiac convertible coupe I am amazed at the attention it gets.

Thanks Alex. If this were in my collection it would take way more than a grand to buy it. In todays market it is better than owning stocks and will appreciate at 10 to 20% per year. In 2000 I purchased ten porcelain dealership signs at an average of 2K each. In the past year I turned down $150 k from a dealer who you know was going to sell them with a 30-50% profit. With todays monetary policy you want goods not dollars. Sorry for the rant
