Riviera 1963 blowing oil filters when cold start
gungeey replied to Ocotillo Bandit's topic in Buick Riviera
Maybe the inlet tube threads are f'ed Bad batch of filters? Pressure relief valve -
loosen up the alternator and pwr steering pump. they will pivot and relieve the tension on the belts for removal You also have to remove the shroud and fan, the radiator, disconnect coolant hoses and transmission pipes at the bottom. That's gets you access to the area

Looks great Bob, and I think digital pictures would highlight any imperfections as compared to eye. By the way, recovered with the thickest vinyl I could get as there were so many cracks and splits needing hiding. It's been in and out plenty with no problem. It's nice and snug. Dont even have to screw it in.

Looks like a lot of silicon and putty under there which might be a hint at a surprise lurking underneath. Hopefully not.

Jim took paypal and sent to me priority, CD's were here in 3/4 days. 1 minute effort on my part...he even sent tracking LOL
-
Every time the CD's are mentioned I say to myself "Been meaning to get them, Steve, so get them" and always get sidetracked. Finally did it and just wanted to do a simple embellishment on Jim's behalf. I was expecting backyard copies and instead they are nicely labelled. I would highly suggest you all do the same. I think they were 40 or 50 shipped?

Heat turned back on in the cabin If this car were I woman I'd marry her. Good looks, performs as needed, don't ask for much, a little tickle on the pedal and she gives it up without hesitation The view on outside rearview mirror is my favorite sweep on the car -
I get a lofty 10.5 mpg in around town driving and almost 10.5 mpg highway! YAHOO!

ell, you asked an internet board what's fair, people answered and now you have done your research on ebay and facebook and concluded your price is 1500. No real need to continue the discussion. PS the guy selling the 3400 core on ebay has these ratty seats for 1700 63 64 65 Buick Riviera Power Seats 1963 1964 1965 | eBay I guess thats what they go for LOL Good luck in your sale

So, the group think is to spend energy time and money to hopefully the get the thing to kick over and make another 500 bucks? And if I spend a couple days tinkering with no positive result I then sell it for 150? as a non runner? Or do we pass it off to the next guy for 600 knowing its junk? And will the guy even take it now that he sees all the fresh handling marks all over it? If I were him seeing new greasy handprints and fresh toolmarks everywhere I would be pretty sure you were trying to get it running and couldnt ( or else you would of proclaimed it as running). In my mind it would be confirmed toast. Lot of effort and behind the scenes antics for a "maybe" 500 especially when I have a project car demanding my attention ? 600 as is sounds fair Id rather a fast nickel than a slow dime Steve EDIT: and if the guy has a 600 budget and he's then told 1000/1200 etc what do I do with the thing when he walks away? I don't see a line outside the door LOL And if its so precious why wouldn't I just keep for, you know,... just in case

sounds fair

I wouldnt want anything hanging from the bottom of the oil pan. Also, what would you use for a gasket in that instance? Steve
