    volts problem

On my vehicles the battery is grounded to frame rail, next to battery. The path for ground current next goes in the frame rail then thru rivits to left rear frame mount for engine support. The Engine rear support plate attached to engine is insulated from frame mounting by rubber insulator. Only the bolts holding engine are grounding conductors. Therefor there is a very imperfect current path, that with age gets worse. //////////////////////////////// I have cleaned connectors, ground attachment for battery and bolts. BUT I ALSO USE A SUPPLIMENTAL 5 FOOT LONG CABLE TO CONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE TO STARTER MOUNTING BOLT. This supplements the frame path. THIS IS A DEFINATE IMPROVEMENT IN ELECTRICAL TRANSMISSION. /////////////////////////// Several friends now realize that rivited frame connections are their BIG problem. They now are using additional wireing to by pass the frame connection issues.
  6. I think about 1965, in college, after the NAVY...........my younger brother and I took a 1931 Essex to gas station 3 blocks away. We were sitting on inverted milk boxes, no interior, with just a little gas in the vacuum tank. No plates on car, just going to get 3 gallons in gas can........ Leaving station I did not go home the way I came, using ally behind station. Pulled out on West Warren Ave. at Outer Drive ( West side of Detroit ) and a Police car rounded the corner right behind us. Followed us two and ahalf blocks, STOPPED US RIGHT IN FRONT OF HOME. Big Motor cycle policeman, in car duty........ just wanted to crank it!!! And did he ever spin it over !!!
  7. SIMILAR TO A TRANSMISSION LOCK ON A 1927 ESSEX. EXCEPT ON ESSEX THE LOCK CYLINDER IS SEPERATE FROM THE LONG SHAFT.
  8. 59 YEARS IN A ROW ! HERSHEY IS THE GREATEST !!
  9. No experience with Buicks after a 1954 Century in 1956/7 BUT I noted the statement. " The flywheel is fastened with nuts and bolts, and the bolts are inserted through the shaft from the engine towards the rear of the car. " Could the bolts and nuts be installed in reverse position???
  10. Thank you, I read that the removal of heavy oils and grease should be removed, as they shorten the life........... Appriciate your response with product specs !!
  11. I have read several comments on rust removal in engines and radiators. One question: Does Evap o rust cut thru the oily residue in eng and radiator? What about the desireability of using nonsudsing washing soap first to cut the oil type coating and then using evaporust? My cars all have honeycomb radiators, I wonder about cleaning them.
  12. Well, now, the folks with wire wheels can step in and use the info from their experiane to help id the drums.
  13. Ask seller to provide size of bolt circle. and size of bolt holes and thread dimention.
  14. Hudson had 7 bolt hubs and used the little triangular cover, at edge of drum to allow feeler gage to be inserted to help set brake clerance. I personally know that Hudson and Essex cars used this feeler gage access area. Was not aware any other co. did this.
  15. My thought is an extension to move rear bumper further rearward to have more room for a large trunk. '32 '33 Essex Terraplane or depending on length and width of bumper face Hudson same years.
  16. A long time friend of mine, now past, Vince Gayeski had several automobiles, 25 Dodge, 36 Desoto, Model A and Model T. All were in the wedding parade to and from Church and reception hall. I was driving the Dodge. The wedding was in St. Clair Shores, 35 miles from my home in Dearborn. Of course no tools or any other items normally carried for old cars available. The Head lights on the Dodge quit and every thing came to a halt on way to reception hall in the dark. I previously had owned a 23 Dodge, had some knowledge of the brand. We obtained a large diaper pin and I put it thru the wires under the dash. We had lights! After reception the pin was used again to get car home. Memories..................from a long time ago. I wonder where the two lovely daughters, both married, are now.
  17. Very nice looking wheel, if 85 years old.........from a 1937? I would enjoy seeing the entire car
