I know it is a few months off, but who is going to Philly?

Di and I will arrive in Philly sometime on Thursday morning so I can attend the meeting of the Region's Committee sometime that day and will be staying until Sunday morning.

We are looking forward to the Annual DFer meeting and seeing all our friends in the AACA!

I have been thinking about Philly and was going to start a thread on Philly but thought it may be considered by some to be too early. I remember the blizzard well last year as Di and I drove up on Friday morning in the middle of the blizzard in our truck followed by our region President and First Lady in their truck. Don't think we saw a plowed lane bewteen home and Philly. It was an adventure, however because of the lightemned traffic, it only added about 20 minutes more to our normal drive.

I'll be there.

Last year's blizard was nothing compared to what I saw the following weekend (Feb 16,2003). We visited our son in Newark, Delaware and had 24" of snow on Sunday. It took us a day and a half to shovel our way out of his development by hand.

Always good to pack a snow shovel in the car for winter travel.

Sorry that I missed the Hershey meeting on the show field. I was delayed in judging by some unmentionable who chose to not be at his car when it was to be judged.

Well, the first thing you should expect is to see me with a smile on my face ! Then my hand out for a Maine lobster from Legal Seafoods.....Seriously, the weekend will include seminars on a variety of interesting antique car related topics plus naturally the dinner to honor all the National Award Winners. Of course, the big plus is to see fellow members and engage in the usual old car banter. Look forward to meeting you in person.

Vern and I will do our best to get there again this year. Last year we were lucky to have arrived just before the big snow, and we pulled out on Sunday just before the area got hit again.

Now that we've made the drive twice, we've discovered that it really isn't that bad. Flying is definitely faster, though!

Advice for the new attendees:

1. Plan on some time for sightseeing if you've never been to Philadelphia before. Many of us come in on Thursday to allow time to do just that.

2. Attend the seminars. The wealth of information is truly incredible. You may even find yourself with two choices in the same timeslot.

3. Check out the Trade Show. Let the vendors know that we appreciate their support and sign up for some great door prizes.

4. Visit the hospitality rooms. You'll always find friendly faces there.

5. Hang around the mezzanine. Another great place to see fellow members.

6. Eat at least one meal at St. George's. Good wholesome food at great prices. Many of us DF'ers go there for breakfast and/or lunch.

 • 2 months later...

Gosh Howard, that was back in October. I've forgotten that one and am worrying about #66 next October. I've noticed I have to log in everytime now since I turned 65 though. I guess I've gotten to such an age that they want to check each time to see if I'm still alive and really am here smile.giftongue.gif

We'll be there! Hopefully, the seminar schedule will permit me to enjoy the fellowship at the DFer's luncheon this year. I always look forward to visiting with everyone later in the evenings at the JC Taylor suite!

Peter, I'm looking forward to meeting you and learning something/anything from your seminar. And as a sidenote to the ones of you who miss Terry during the day this year, be careful what you say and who you're seen with late at night, his old government talents still work just fine, thank you very much! Everytime I turned around last year, he was checking me out. Would you call that spying? Terry, my wife said she had nothing to do with it. Wayne

Will everyone please forgive Steve for suggesting an alternative to St. George's. His recommendation may good for another meal, but St. George's and the DFERs is TRADITION!! Decent food, good beer, and fellowship. What more could an Old Phart ask for? So in case you missed the point, Father Ron will be there. Let's work around Peter's schedule and find out when he is available for lunch at St. George's.

We will be there on Wednesday to make our traditional walk to Bookbinders for dinner. Join us if you wish.

di and I always make our stop at the JC Taylor suite in the evening. Thats the place to see the people you missed during the day because its the place to be... and the drinks are always top notch. grin.gif

Father Ron.. another pro for St. George's is that its location is near enough to the hotel to allow people to make the DF luncheon (after the last morning seminar runs over time) and still get back "relatively" in time for the first afternoon seminars. As always..looking forward to the 2004 DFer lunch on Friday!

I am thinking about going for the first time. According to some internet sites the hotel and staff aren't that great. Is this true? I find it hard to believe everything I read, however. What do the people who go to the meeting every year say?

Di and I have been going to the Annual Meeting for about 8 years. The Wyndham hotels are some of the nicers ones around. The Wyndham Franklin is nicer than some Hiltons I've stayed in. We've always been satisfied with our rooms.

We've never had any problem with the staff. They have always been courteous to us and always helpful with any needs. They always seem to be working hard to help the AACA with setting things up, banquets, etc.

Of course other people may have had bad experiences.. just saying that we have not in the past 8 years.

I have been going for 10 years, I have never had a problem. I see the same door man and he is quit to get a cab for whatever place we are headed for dinner. The staff has always been good, you ask for extra towels and you get enough for five people.

Cars4fun. I've only been to Philly once, but have been to many upscale hotels. Wyndham is right at the top. The AACA owned the place last year. It was like a private hotel for our club with everything you could possibly need for your stay. You will not be disappointed. Wayne
