Another car that should have never been restored…….20k on the clock when Neathercutt owned it, and 22k when Bill Harrah had it. By the 90’s it was 25k. I think I have more miles on it in the last 60 years than anyone else.

West, fabulous photo of the Sports Sedan.  Exactly where I had hoped the blog would lead.  Sure looks like a west coast car.

Ed, in regards to Pond Skim Green - I attended Hershey that same year.  I walked up to Chris and asked if that green color had a name - He answer was "No, but you can name it if you'd like"  I let the conversation end right there.  Owners get what owners want!

Which car is that ? Ed, since you have now seen a "back in the day" picture of the Thiel coupe without any sidemount mirrors are they going to be history as you've  previously indicated ? How is it possible the Maybelline car hasn't been kept track of over the years, it's always been a notable car with  known original ownership ?

I just fix them, I don’t get to determine the mirror treatment on them.🥸

 

The Lyons car must have went for scrap during the war……..who had gas stamps for a monster? And even if you did, it wasn’t a very American thing to drive during the war……..

When I see photos like the one above, I can’t help think to myself when a few of us “younger” pre war nuts kick the bucket…….will the stuff get saved and published? Or will it go to the curb and be lost forever.

Probably the latter. It takes a LOT of time to go through THOUSANDS of photos, just to get a couple of nuts like this one, mixed in with landscape shots of the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, etc.

I don't mind bragging, but I'm the one who discovered these photos and brought them to light in the Packard world some 10 years or so ago. At the same time, I discovered photos of a 1940 Packard convertible victoria by Bohman & Schwartz (Darrin-esque) that Williams owned. My good friend Steve Snyder owns the car now, and he never knew its original ownership history until I showed him the photos. The third car of Williams that I discovered was a custom-bodied one-of-a-kind 1917 Paige that another friend owned, and he never knew its original history before that either.

I sold Chris a couple of those accessory bumper guards a couple of years ago. He had never seen one in person before. They only detract from the car's good looks... like lolly-pop sidemount mirrors.

'Nother little story about this car. My uncle looked at it to buy, passed on it. His college roommate bought it, and kept it for ~50 years. They both owned custom-bodied Packards and a sports car while rommmates in college.

My understanding is this car resurfaced in the late 80's.  I have no idea of any progress since then.  The attached photos are some possibilities (note most of these photos i have found over the years on the net). I suspect that some of these cars may be rebodied. 

 

West - what is the points deduction for the super 8 hubcaps on the Dietrich Sports Sedan?

Great thread……I just received a bunch of early split windshield Packard photos because of this thread………and I can’t share them. Such is life. The convertible sedan body style has a bunch of survivors…………so it’s hard to guess which car is the red one today.

34 Dietrich Stationary Coupe (1 or 4 or maybe 5 survivors)- photos taken in the mid 60's by Tom Kirn.   Found in a field near Mohawk New York - price was $1,600.  Just tracked recently that the car was sold new by the Packard Dealer - Fonda Motors in Syracuse New York.  The car is fully restored and is used and driven extensively by the owner  When the car was new it was delivered with a trunk instead of a rumble seat.  I guess if you had $6,500 in 1934 Packard would build you exactly what you wanted.  Even in this derelict condition the lines of the car are just stunning.

Not only did that car have a trunk instead of a rumble seat, some cars had two golf bag doors........some had none. They were a true custom.

I know a few restorers who prefer the 8 over the 12............I'm a 12 guy myself.
