The green speedster, being in the Lee collection, who are famous for researching and putting their cars back to their original configuration ie. the two Hispano's shown at Pebble a few years back that were owned new by the Rothchild's were both restored back to their original colours. I'd bet a dime to a donut that the speedster was probably delivered new in its green livery. Anyone of the four would be worth a kings ransom. In my opinion, they would have looked a lot better mounted on the 142 inch wheel base chassis. Brian
  2. Al, I have attached a factory photo courtesy of the Detroit Public Library. Not proof positive, but it looks to me like this car has the painted shell, rad louvers and painted headlight buckets. Too bad it is not a coloured photo.
  3. In regards to the LeBaron speedster with the painted shell headlight buckets, rad louvers and tail light stanchions, it is not a fake. The car resides in the Lee collection in Nevada. At one time Mr Lee had two of the originals. I must confess that even conservative Packard executives got it wrong when it came to colour! The grey LeBaron sport Phaeton in the photo beside also resides in the Lee collection. The four originals were on display at Pebble many years ago. The darker green speedster with the wheel discs is a Fran Roxas rebody.
  4. Was messing around in u-tube one day looking at a video totally unrelated to classic cars when I stumbled upon the Holy Grail!   5. Found a new video posted of a 1934 Packard Dietrich. Enjoyable to see this era of car in motion vs a stand still photo at a car show. Would be awesome to see more videos of cars from the classic era during Covid 19 to fill the gap due to the lack of car shows. How about a virtual Pebble Beach Tour d'elegance! Brian

  7. John, I stumbled across another photo of what has to be the Maybelline car. Because this photo was taken in Chicago it makes you believe it is the Dome Car but obviously it is not. Comparing it to your photos the trunk must have been added on after the car was delivered new to Mr Williams. The two cars must have been virtually identical when new other than the Maybelline car having all the chrome embellishments. ie. Rad Shell, Belt Moulding and Hood Vent Doors. Rumour has it the car was in a scrap yard in Chicago back in the early 50's. Thanks everyone for all your wonderful contributions to this thread - keep them coming. Totally enjoyable Brian
  8. A few grainy photos of a 34 custom Dietrich in rural Poland that I found on the net. The car survived this miss treatment and it still with us today. Throughly enjoying the topic - let's keep it up. Everybody stay well

  10. Just a follow up to Ed's posting on the "'34 Field Find". Been a fan of v windshield dietrichs for many years. A short story about one of my luckiest days in the hobby. I attended a show 10 or so years ago at Gilmore Museum - this car was not entered in the show but the owner had taken it out of the museum to give it some exercise. The car was parked off on its own in a great spot to get photos. I grabbed my lawn chair and camera and off I went to admire the car! An hour or so later the owner came by and we had a brief chat. I guess he could see the passion in my eyes and before I knew it he threw me the keys and said "Why don't you take it for a drive" Not very often a commoner gets to drive around in a 7 figure car! Needless to say - this was a thrill of a lifetime!!!! I realized on my way back that I had to find a passerby in order to take a couple of photos of me in the car. I figured my wife and fellow car buffs would not believe me! Must of been the luck of the Irish that day! One of 4 originally built.

  14. To K8096, To you and all the bloggers, this thread is more fun then a treasure hunt for kids! Throughly enjoying the photos and the history lessons. In regards to the photo that you posted of the 34 Dietrich conv coupe, would you happen to know who was the owner of the car back then and do you have any idea which one of the three that I am admiring? Any chance you have more photos of this beauty? Brian

  17. West, attached are photos of JM's experimental Packard. Interesting car but definitely not in my top 5! The car was displayed at the Kirkland Concours 8 to 10 years ago.
  18. 33 Dietrich Conv Sedan - one of only a handful produced. Odd set of tires and (very unusual on a Dietrich) painted headlight and parking light shells. Over the years I have seen one or two LeBarons done that way but never a Dietrich. The photo appears to be of when the car was new or nearly so.

Can't leave a fellow enthusiast hanging like this - curious as to what car you are referring to on the left (??) coast that was owned by Ken Kennel?? Are these just typo's or was the red wine really good??
  20. The Holy Grail of Packards to be auctioned. Just looking at this machine raises much pulse level and heart rate. Will be very interesting to see how much the car brings. If I could only have one car in my garage, this would be it. What we really need are 50 collectors which 100,000 each. Any takers, we can work out the details later! The most exciting day for me in 40 years of the car hobby was a ride around 17 mile drive in this beauty after winning Best of Show at Pebble Beach. I wish I could tap the phones of a few of the deep pocketed Packard collectors just to hear the buzz. The surprising thing to me is that Judge Joe is willing to part with it. Any opinions?
  21. Attached is a photo of the 1108 56 Packard that I am confident Ken owned. Photo was taken at a Grand Classic back in the 70's. This was the 1st custom split windshield Dietrich that I had ever seen and have been hooked ever since. Also attaching a photo of a Dietrich Conv Coupe that Ken owned as well. Car now resides in California. Brian

Love your colour combination choice. Edinmass - please keep your ears to the ground in regards to the Dietrich Conv Coupe. I have been keeping track of the whereabouts of the split windshield Dietrich's for many years now. I have lost track of one - 1108 56 Conv Sedan, featured in Ed Blends book. Restored by George Tilp, and then owned by the late Ken Wessel in Ohio. I would love to know the whereabouts of this one to update my files. Brian
  23. The re bodied 1108 Victoria that was on the forum a week back piqued my interest. I know that these re bodied cars are in a grey area when it comes to meets and judging. I have attached a couple of photo's of project 1108's from 5 or 6 years ago. Is there anybody out there that knows the current status of these two cars? The Victoria was in Pennsylvania and I believe the Couple Roadster was on the West coast (maybe Washington). I am not a buyer just a curious enthusiast. I know that they are re bodied cars but I admire the enthusiast willing to take on the challenge and expense of recreating such a work of art. When done correctly it at least increases the chance of seeing one of these beauties at one of the various concours.
